iirc cooller during the dreamhack 09 itw said that rapha was theorically paid a bit more than him but that his salary was constantly delayed.

I also think he'd have had offers from other teams, unless his contract says he's gotta play for sk for x years, kinda like the serious gaming contracts ( iirc cypher and avek still have to play 2 years for srs )

Regardless, this SK news is quite old and I remember the drama years ago already. Interestingly, if this is indeed the same story, some of the same players who had these disagreements even returned to SK later on.

Can't speak for anyone else but I definitely get paid. Yea there were some issues in 2009 but I haven't had problems since then. Been great for me so I don't understand this assumption of when I say "thanks for supporting me and sending me" doesn't involve me getting my salary. Who ever says at the end of interviews oh and thanks to say and say for paying my salary =)

The success of the team was clearly important for building SK's success and fanbase, especially with such legendary names, but I think you're ignoring the role of bds in that success.

Before these players had ever played a day in SK bds had turned geekboys into the biggest CS-based website in the world. He then took the principles which had made geekboys so big and turned the next version of the SK site into something similar.

HeatoN and Potti stopped playing for SK at the end of 2004 and the last time you could reasonably make the case for SK having the best CS team in the world would be during 2005 when they won CPL winter. Yet the team and website only continued to grow beyond that and reached its zenith more than 4-5 years after HeatoN and Potti had departed and more than 3-4 after their team were last the #1 in the world.

Having legendary players alone isn't enough. NiP had two of the most star-packed lineups to ever play cs (in 2001 and in 2005) and yet never came close to the level of organisational success/profile that SK accomplished. Likewise Pentagram, fnatic, mTw and Na`Vi have all had CS teams which were the undisputed best in the world, and will go down as all time great lineups, yet none of those organisations have reached the same stature or success in terms of their communities.

The CS team's success might be point two, in order of importance, but it comes after bds' unique intuition for how to build online communities.
