I'll be doing a post before the cup about next seasons format.

Please also consider smaller divisions or a "premier league" for CTF. There's a pretty big skill gap in div 1 (the other divisions should correct themselves through teams moving divisions). The bottom div 1 teams could/should play div 2 teams. It's like that this season and it will be like that next season. Forcing top 2 teams to advance into rape-hell isn't a good idea, imo. :D While I see the value in having an equal number of teams in each division, I think there's more value in close games than 8-0 blow outs.

I don't think the top division necessarily needs to be as big as the others if it's only a matter of them finishing a week early.

On a more serious note, I am on your side here - split div1 or something... even better, the lower part of div1... PLAY MOAR! :)

There will be always be a few teams that blow out other teams. You can't make a group of teams that are equally skilled. You can get close, but small gaps between skill can already be a 5-0 on a map.

Teams should start caring to get better and not rely on 1 map to carry them trough the tournament. That is your main problem, it would be good to try having maps set already per game by /random or rotation.

Now people just remove the map they are totally terrible at, the other team does the same and you end up with choosing the map where the other team is weakest on and visa versa. Then the game ends with a 1-1 in map scoreline and no third one is played due to league format. That just sucks.

There's maps where you can blow out a good team with 8-0, because they don't give a shit to practice it. It is their own fault. When my team loses a map like Shining Forces, because we didn't care to look up the recent play style on it, then it is our fault.

Whole div1 HoQ this season has been about picking the map where the opponent is weakest on. Win that one and go for the 1-1. Sure, logical, but it ruins the whole intention of going for the full win. And some teams just don't want to win.

So the whole creating separate divisions for a premier league thing is just dividing the top teams even more. They get to play each other in high end games, while the lower division 1 teams get to stay in the same cycle of not having to really care that much to win anything.

So in conclusion: Let them get raped. If they want to improve, they should practice. Why should some league matches improve your performance next season when you end up getting promoted to the top tier. It doesn't. If you want to be good, you have to practice and not rely on a league system to give you equal games.

I would make the div1 group, 2 groups and put some division 2 teams in there. Same how it works in any other sports, there are top teams, mid tier and lower. They all have to face each other eventually, but every one can end up in the position they desire if they just practice enough. Then repeat it every season and maybe some teams start improving, without hanging around in their safe little divisions where everyone is equal and there is no REAL resistance.

Then at the end of the season the top 3 in both div1 groups go into a playoff stage (preferably held in a one/two day cup) where they battle it out for the overall win. This results in: Awesome top tier games for everyone to watch, competition, dedication to actually show up for the playoffs and a learning experience for lower tier teams that can watch and see what the top tier teams do in those clashes.

Then there is a goal to get into the top 3 and next season, mid to lower tier teams have a chance to get into that again. Also spreading a lot of teams across two div1 groups allows for other teams to get a chance making it to the playoffs, instead of the very predictable 3-4 teams we have now.

I would surely watch it if I am not playing it ;)

Ow noes Ironworks, a map that actually allows somewhat offensive gameplay, the horror! Defenders have an incredibly easy time on Siberia, Shining Forces, Japanese Castles and Finnegans. Ironworks being perhaps shit for defenders cancels it out quite nicely.

The maps are actually of a higher pace, more offensive attacks and more offensive play. This I do agree with you on, which is also why I like them both more.

BUT, it doesnt mean its not possible to defend on it or that it automaticly has to be high scoring games such as 4-2, 6-4, etc.

bface vs broken, two of the teams which placed well in division 1 in HoQ. They played this map in the officials and it was only a score of 1-0. I'd say that is a pretty low scoring.

My point is that if you took the time to learn how to defend it im pretty sure you'd come to love defending a more action paced game then sitting in base waiting for that random attacker that barely crossed all the tdm in mid with 40hp (hello shiningforces).

As a player that prefers maps like siberia and shining forces which are often berated, my original statement whilst not a troll was intended as a brief polemic against the sacred cow that is ironworks. Using a word like "impossible" is an exaggeration for the sake of rhetoric.

It is possible to get high and low scoring games on any map (for example the recent 5-1 fra vs fin nc game on shining forces) it's more a question of what is typical.

It's a little patronizing to assume that if only I'd learn how to play ironworks better that I'd enjoy it. I have spend plenty of time on ironworks and I don't enjoy it.

If the opposing attackers really are unable to cross mid on shining forces then its probably time for the def to push out low, rail across mid and help with RA or something. Sitting in base waiting for stragglers seems a little futile.....or maybe you were just exaggerating too.

Courtyard was an over defensive map that had a very clumsy alteration. It's just a bad map thats been butchered to make capping easy, not really great map design and it's only played because there's not a great deal of choice in ql.

Now I've used enough words on this so I'm sticking my fingers in my ears and shouting NOT LISTENING, NOT LISTENING! :)
