Ok, so I thought of a simple and effective way to ensure that demos/configs from big events are made public within a reasonable time frame.
(I.E. within afew hours of them being played without need for someone to go round each pc)

At the moment there are three problems.

Casting and streaming is inconsistent and costly.
(GTV does not exist).

Demos usually arrive the next day (or longer) becuase its a lot of hassle to collect them one by one. by which time, they lose a lot of their value as there is no reason why demos could not be made available straight after the game.

Id could and should implement some kind of automatic ftp/demo upload system into the game, but until they do that there here is a work around.

Download a free Trial of Auto Ftp Manager http://www.deskshare.com/ftp-download.aspx

Install and configure this to every tourney machine before the event. ok, its an hours worth of donkey work, but that not too bad is it?

I'm assuming anyone competent enough to be in such a positon will have no trouble working out the rest?

Simply find the local folder on the computer where the demos are saved to.

Input the ftp details and specify a scheduled task so it uploads the contents AUTOMATICALLY. Every couple of hours.

Hopefully, once its been setup in the day it should all take care of its self. I.E. you won't need someone to keep going around each pc.

You can define any LOCAL folder, so CONFIGS and DEMOS are the obvious ones of interest.

And simply make the FTP address available on websites.

That way, every single demo and config from every single player is made available within a short period of time of them being saved.

I assume autodemo record is all working/possible etc?

Now we get demos/configs in near realtime.

Potential problems are upload speed spikes, again, anyone worth their salt can control this so even if the game is uploading demos while I player is playing, it can be done with so little bandwidth that it does not matter.

If that's still too scary for the player, then simply schedule it to do it once at the end of the events, but on the same day.

Possibly get the players themselves trained up on it so they can also have a hand in controlling it. THey should recognise without specs, they have no events, so its the least they can do:)

So no excuses anymore for a lack of demos or configs.

It takes no time at all and works really well. Its free and easy.

There are other ways, but the concept is there and I know it works as I just tested it and its working fine.

So no more whining, at least until someone implements this properly!
