If warsow didn't have the highest learning curve of every fps, then ye more people would be into it.
Pubs are too high-skill for noobs.
Its one of the few games where that happens.

movement? W+mouse works for new players. It's so oversimplified that you don't need to know how to strafe really since you can always dash instead of doing a first jump.
strategy? not included. Go play some quake instead
random respawns, stun, weak/strong ammo, worst weapon balance ever, plus the game being intended to be low scoring? check.

Quake requires a lot more skill than warsow, not only from in game working mechanics and gameplay in every title (maybe not q2 with the unbalanced railgun and chaingun), but mostly because of the players, both in pubs and in leagues. Of course that happens because of time playing it and having a much bigger playerbase (especially in the early days), but in the end the result is the same: quake is way more skilled yet quake live manages to have a decent amount of active players.


as I posted some time ago those factors don't really matter when trying to catch a broader audience.
Gfx (decent looking plus having some differentiation. Take League of Legends as another example of gfx getting people away from trying the game), variety (it's just a mix of other fps games, but done wrongly gameplay-wise), content (quake live premium and pro accounts anyone? halo reach? [which is 100% fan service]), the game feeling complete and actually being good in comparison with other games (I remember posting at warsow.net forums [which have no people there at all] when quake live got into open beta and said that it'd be warsow's death: it became true), servers, etc. are what matters.

Best example: minecraft. The guy will soon be at forbes list of millionaires lol. We all have an account only because of 1 reason: it's different, and that's what most pc gamers look into also with nostalgic games and franchises, and some persist buying state of the art computers instead of just buying a xbox.

Warsow is nowhere close to the highest learning curve game which is Tribes.
Also as a tournament game it cant compete with QL due to reduced significance of positioning. Even inclusion of stunned didnt change it enough. The game was a domain of people who mainly knew how to keep pushing forward button, face it.

Warsow is a lot of fun and certainly some abilities are required, but lets not overstimate it as far as competitive gaming goes.

There is such version, it is called cpm :P

seriously...this is the perfect combination of counter-strike and quake...try it...hate it or love it!

I coped with a lot of changes with each version, but with 0.5 I just had enough of them. Each time Im checking older versions they seem so much better that current one, and I actualy liked the orginal WDM14.

All the noise around net with each release was always strong point of the game, bringing some new players in, but that couldnt work forever and I guess doing changes just for the sake of doing changes, will wore out some of the loyal players.

If only everyone would think the same :(. Community demands are about as ever-changing as are the actual changes over versions. However consistency and gameplay 'locking' is pretty high on the priority-list nowadays. I still agree though, too much stuff is changing all the time :(.
