No, not quite good, but they have made a step in the right direction. Originally for the Intel Classic, they had a season ticket at $50, and $19.99 is quite reasonable.

How is making an esport pay-per-view a step in the right direction? Especially when the esport in question is a game with many imbalances with pros who are in some cases the same level as amateur's matches that are streamed free in 1080p weekly?

The pricing was a step in the right direction, in that they have at least acknowledged the complaints people had about the cost of the service.

With $200,000/mo invested in the game, you can't honestly say that they don't have an interest in seeing it be a success.

Gretech is a big internet-TV service in Korea/China, so it's probably a mixture of their own wealth, and sponsorship.

Being that this is the internet, you'd think they would provide an option: either suffer through advertisements, or pay to get rid of them. Internet ads can be extremely profitable, especially if they're run through something bandwidth inexpensive like GTV (which also happens to be of higher quality than peeing video... or streaming video, whatever it's called).

Well winning isn't everything. All this exclusivity crap, like the directv sunday ticket... it's nothing but a mini-monopoly. It doesn't help anything or anyone except directv. Some people are so pathetic about winning, they'd rather win the easiest game in the world than work their way through losing to win something worthwhile. Like winning a cardboard box full of shit is somehow worth doing. I mean, great, you won an injection of aids. That's your prize, for playing so well. People just have no vision of the future, it's all about now now now. I want to win now, because I can't stand to lose, even when winning means death.

And i'll have you know, no one enjoys advertisements. They are considered a necessary evil - a compromise people make the best of. I avoid them like the plague they are, and ignore them on the rare occasions when I am willing to compromise. Of course, if you have to pay a premium, and sit through ads, obviously, terrorist activity may be necessary. Certainly though, there are people (especially new people), who would rather endure the commercials than pay for something they don't necessarily want.

This does make sense in hindsight. Koreans are batshitcrazy for starcraft, so you can charge them to watch high quality games. If GOM charges Koreans, then they have to charge the rest of the world or else they would lose massive amounts of money. I have spent $30 on worse things.

Koreans don't have to pay for the stream, only VODs. That's how they already have to do it for MSL/OSL/proleague, though. Technically they pay for their TV service, but it's an included channel.

Right, Koreans pay for their TV service and foreigners don't. So how will they make money off of the rest of the world? They have to either charge for viewing or implement hulu style ads every so often. Unfortunately they don't have the coordination to do the latter atm.

Gom has ads, even on the HD stream, but they're just rebroadcasting the Korean ads. I don't know if they're still doing that now, but getting foreign sponsors for ads would probably be the solution. If they do already have foreign sponsors, then I don't know what they're thinking.

Edit: I also checked the quality test from gom tv site for low quality stream: Its low quality but not unwatchable, looks abit better than original starcraf :D. Can't see money / supply numbers, but thats pretty rare in higher quality steams also.
