tunnels are risky...you normally get 3 of them down & they can flash...if you camp upstairs you get easy kills coming through the vent

Best strat: Two go sewers, one pop one flash close corner, throw 2 smokes down the other end, fire of a little bit of spam, then time a double HE. If that hasn't made sure it's clear then they'll be damn low and you can russ walk up to the end, spam through the wall whilst the second guy jumps around. Meanwhile 3 go main. 2 AK, 1 scout (or AWP if you've got your game face on). Time so you can both go through roof and garage and always turn the power/lights off so you can use nightvision and be proper keen.




That said... I've played it like... Once? In a mix... Whilst we were drunk and buzzing... So yeah...

Been in this situation so many times. I swear by mouse and keyboard and find it impossible to use a controller for FPS games (unless it's like, really casual, mindless Halo with mates or something and even then I get owned)

Mates will say "that's bullshit, you can do anything with a controller and better, you just suck" but they soon take it back as soon as you show them what's capable with a mouse and keyboard.

The controller works for some kind of button mashing games, and games like SF and Tekken, but as far as FPS games are concerned, can't match the precision of a keyboard and mouse.

It would be awesome if Microsoft integrated the m/kb setup into their consoles. However, doing this would hurt them financially for two reasons.

(1) Casual players who use control sticks would still be the large majority of Xbox's gamers. They would quickly become annoyed by being constantly owned. Eventually they would stop playing PC style games altogether.

(2) Making the Xbox into a PC would lower their PC software sales in the long run. Why would a gamer buy a Desktop when they can play all their games on an Xbox? Now instead of a gamer having a Desktop, Xbox, and a Laptop the gamer only has an Xbox and a Laptop.

I think the ability to pirate pc games much easier then consoles play a part in it. unless you have a modded console you have to buy the game.

I think 360 piracy is a bigger problem (for microsoft) than most people realise. Once you have it chipped it's not harder to find the game downloads than any PC games.

Of course alot more consoles are probably modded in asia but in europe and especially the us thats not the case.

You don't really need to "mod" anything, all you have to do is flash the dvd drive. It takes like 10 minutes tops, you just have to know what you're doing. Not a prob with various tutorials and shit floating around the web though.

Oh I don't claim that pc piracy is rampant either but imo, its worse then consoles. I live in turkey and I have never seen anyone who is into games and does not know about putting a cracked exe in it's proper place.

The problem isn't exactly .iso files or downloading. It's the pirated game sales. you can get any program or game from the street here (or even shops!) for like.. 5 euros? the buyer only has to know how to handle the crack and the shop owner can always teach the buyer if he does not know.

Yeah, that used to be the case in Poland as well. Back in the day, all you had to do to get your fix of pirated software was walk to the nearest bazaar and cough up 10zl (~2,5€) per CD. The quality is a different matter, sometimes you'd end up with a game run through by some meticulous Russian pros that decided it needed a voiceover overhaul. Playing Kingpin: Life of Crime with NPC's talking in extremely bad Polish spoken by Russians was an experience i'll never forget. :D

That market seems to have dried out here, though, what with DSL prices dropping down and speeds picking up.

PS2/PS3 have USB support for mouse and keyboard, but good luck finding a game that supports them.

unreal 3 is the only one i know of on ps3, i did hope for more as theres a few nice fps' such as killzone 2, but sadly not.

I'm amazed MS needed a project for that conclusion. Whoever played both at a certain level (not noob) just knows mouse is a perfect input device for fps while analog pad isn't by a long shot

for SF4 :
you buy and xbox360, you insert the cd, you plug in your pad, turn on the TV, and you play.

on pc, you have to turn on the computer, wait for windows to load, install the game, etc etc.

many of the games now that are on multiple formats have the same basic multiplayer menus. so once installed your into games quick.

countless redundant tirades about Zelda, Mario, Metroid and whatnot.. also praising inovations like the analog stick or 4 players split screen in Golden Eye. it's like everyone turned oblivious overnight..

nothing, NOTHING will recapture the innovation, soul, intelligence and mature feel of PC games from the Golden Era.
no amount of shitty downplayed remakes for console retards will bring most of those games back either.
never will gaming witness the explosion of genres and gameplay progress like in the '90s.. most of this reflected in PC games.

It is all because of software piracy and the birth of uber consoles that has really crippled the pc industry.

I don't even think its worth having a decent gaming pc nowadays but we did get crysis. That game, for me was the pinnacle of fps.

I sucks but people are moving away from clunky desktops opting for more portable connections to the internet and things nowadays.

In the future i doubt desktops will be as common place. I know most users here have a desktop but that is a through back to the golden age as you say.

The pc games industry and its cutting edge-ness did pave the way for the software industry as it is now. It takes in more than holy wood easily.

We are all just annoyed as its not how it used to be. if i was 10 years younger id have an xbox and be raping the mwf2 servers or whatever kids are playing these days lol.

I don't even know that pc gaming would enter into their heads... due to fact most people will have funky slick laptops but are not the power horses compared to the consoles that were around when we grew up?!

We all spent to much money building pcs in the past and now we are left in a stagnated market that has no real games coming for the foreseeable future? i mean yes there is wow and things i mean PC exclusives?

Civ5, starcraft 2, vastly superior valve games and support, better social connectivity (maybe pushing it), future MMOs (questionable quality for all though), and then better looking and controlling (for most) multi platform games, most of which do come to PC.
My PC isn't even that new (Q6600, 4890 as a £150 upgrade) and it runs every modern game better than a 360. I bought a PS3 because I like games and there are a lot of good SP exclusives on it. But most kids could do everything they do on their 360s with a PC if there wasn't the attached stigmas of imagined price point and difficulty of use.

It's also quite nice playing a game sitting on a sofa in your lounge relaxing.

The death of the PC as the premiere gaming platform started with the playstation. The consoles had the 'cool'marketing and were up to par, graphically with PC and arcade games, so we saw the death of both.

Too few true PC Gamers from those days about, all my friends were console kids (still are) and a lot of people who played both get caught up with the console kids obsession with Japan and Zelda etc.

Honestly, Zelda, I don't get it. Yes they're very solid and consistently good adventure games but it's by no means the pinnacle of game design the hordes of console retards make it out to be.

What really bugs me is the idea that Japan used to dominate the gaming market and now it's losing to the Western market, which has "caught up".

Fact is the Western developers have always been vastly superior in every aspect of game design and only a few Japanese developers ever made anything of quality they were just doing it on a platform that most people didn't buy because a console looks more cost effective.

The PC gaming was our best scenario, but not for the industry. With today consoles they made sure not to make the same mistakes like they did earlier. With XBOX360, PS3 and Wii they have built their perfect infrastructure they can control and milk money from. Like Apple they control their hardware and software.

In order to broaden the market they have created an idiot proof product that plays watered down games. I mean lets face it, kyb/mouse is not as convenient as wireless controller : \

They'd risk having more people computer savvy, which would have them question the validity of the costs that Microsoft charges. At least they can get away with charging absurd prices on top of your internet costs when console gamers just have to put a CD in the drive and be done with it.

Of course what he hadn't realised is they had already balanced the game to prevent the M/K players dominating and taken it too far.

But the fact he took the article at face value and was unable to think something didn't sound right is just astonishing.

A side not, there were lots of people saying that controllers with D-Pads are better as they provide 360 degrees for motion. Of course that only holds up if you remove the mouse, but whatever.

I've worked on a project that was supposed to be a cross-platform game. The devs had to scratch it even though the initial idea was to make a 'Live anywhere' game.

I bought a XIM2 last December to play with keyboard/mouse on MW2 with friends, having tried a really shitty adapter, XFPS Sniper Pro or something. Works perfectly to be honest, but you have to fully configure it with any game you want to use. Set ya back a fair few ££ however, but so happy I bought it.

From dev point of view, it's always easy to make a game for consoles. PS3 or X360 hardware takes years to get an overhaul while for a PC, the devs have to work on DX9 optimization or stuff like DX11 scalability with a new graphic card out there almost every 2-3 months. It's obviously harder to make a good PC game, in general.

This is responsible for a clear segregation and any attempt to bring them together is bound to fail. Top that up with publishers jumping the ship over to console type match-making, which further pisses off PC gamers and keeps them hooked to what they know works. Not to forget, the technical difficulties that pop-up to make a central platform for both. Also, QA for such projects needs a crazy test bed.

The XBOX 360 uses DirectX.

Most PC games look better than their 360 counterparts for the same reason as mentioned above. This makes the 360 or any other console for that matter easier to code for. 360 still runs on an optimized version of DX9 and has no DX10 or DX11 love yet.
