it all started with a freind of mine fakenick'ing on ra3-servers, he was on the name goenk and when i asked him on rw (roger wilco, voice-com back in 2000 :x ) what the heck this nick was all about he said that he just likes the way how retarded it sounds when you say it. i kinda liked the idea and here we are :)

for q3ctf i was sort of forced to shorten my nick to 4 letters (unified looking nicks because of the clantag style with the clantag behind the actual nickname) therefore i changed to bnki for ctf only

In 1999 I seen some graffiti on a wall from a distance, thought it said 'ASTROGLITZ' which at the time I thought was totally cool and original. So when I next played UT I changed my nick to that... A while later I decided it sounded a bit weird so I shortened it to 'astz' (still sounds weird?). The rest is history!

I seen the wall again a while later and it actually said 'ASTROGRAFIX', so I guess it is original after all! :D

I was using a "Player Two" for a good while there, and one day i was watching Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind which is one of my favorite movies and it's distributed by "Focus Features", and it kind of struck me how appropriate it was to focus on the game. Almost completely blocking out all outside distraction and truly focus.

some night i got home really drunk and played some cs beta on a public server - i had some cookies on my desk so i used "KruemelKek$" on the server (german for ~crumbling cookie) later i came to quakenet (in like 99 or 2000) where i could use neither the $ nor my entire nickname because of our sweet-ass clantag so i shortened it to KekS and well.. stuck with it ever since (german for cookie)

there was another person in my school called "christian", though his name was spelled "kristian". so after a while the "christian with c" and "kristian with k" got shortened to "k" and "c". consequently i was "c" for most of my childhood. over the years variations popped up, "cpl" slowly replaced "c" and now as i've grown up "lains" is often an option.. (even "clains" has invaded some subsets of my friendcircles)

simultaneously when i started playing online i wanted something more than "cpl", or simply "c", since i gathered that it wouldn't be matchless in an internet-future.. though i did try having cpl emails; "[email protected]" for like 2 years, followed by "[email protected]" which lasted even longer..

anyway, i realized only my latter surname is sufficiently original not to drown in copies, so i matched it with my given name and first and second surname; which becomes C.P.Lains, which i realized is quite ugly, so i switched between it and the somewhat more aesthetically pleasing, C.Lains

in sweeden, where i played alot, CP was synonymous with the label for the condition "cerebral parese".. and that was my biggest obstacle (also was a norwegian clan named cP) until i realized that CPL which really unified my name was captured by CPL the organization, and i was even banned from using both "CPL" and "CPLains" in CPL events :o

later i also found 4chan and with it another even worse association with cp; in additon "cpl" was also commonly abbreviated form of "corporal" so i tried to give up on the "p"; the roots to that side of the family should be fine with my mentioning Christ with my C, right? but then i really couldn't get away from the p, because it propped up both from history and from registrations at uni and even on the net when "clains" (!!) was taken i'd just give up and go with cplains..

so, overall, i'm not really satisfied with alternating between "cplains" and "clains", which i use most often now, but i don't have the heart to make up something out of nowhere or think to myself that what i chose now will keep stable.. sooo, yeah hmm, story of names, i wonder
