The way I see it is, Major News is just to prevent poor posts and to make sure things get checked first so that people can't just post anything/everything and it go straight onto the front page.

What i'm a little curious about is that most people tend to use ustream. The stream quailty there is only limited by your upload so why go with livestream? I guess cos of their interface right?

I love their interface and i don't want to be limited to the only "new talent" being those with good technical knowledge. It took me a few hours learning to use Flash Media Encoder and ScrCap for ustream, which puts alot of people off, and even then it wasn't perfect (very tedious).

The software they (livestream) provide opens up demand to alot more people, Over mumble/skype i've gotten 2 different people set up in less than 10minutes - and I encourge people to come forward if they are genuinely interested, they are quite welcome to try it on our test channel. In that respect, we're open to offers if 'x' person thinks they have something they can bring to the team.

USTREAM also has alot of routing issues, particularly with UK users on BT. Which has come as almost a lucky bonus by going with livestream.

I doubt this is a good deal. The premium service has 25 GB streaming included and then you pay 1.5$ GB overage. This may cost you thousands $$$.

Just for example, covering one hour TDM game with like 500 viewers in 1000kbps quality will need around 225 GB, which means that you will have 200GB overage (after 1 match) and 300$ to pay to livestream.

Something i'll look into, they have not said anywhere that i will need to provide my card details, only that the premium service would be completely free and that no charges would be incurred.

But it does, since it clearly states overage not included. So either you have to enter your details when starting on the premium service (my guess), or they cap you after the first 25 gig, ie after the first match you decide to stream. Either way, you lose.

I've looked at their premium package, and basically what you're buying for 300/month is an add free enviroment (with the ability to generate add revenues yourself) and better support and quality. But the 25gig included are a joke, so in return you have to pay for bandwith.

Seriously, though, I prefer the quality of Livestream to Ustream anyday. nVc's setup is pretty good and the general ease of use from a casters point of view on Livestream's part is preferable to Ustream (I've tried both).

I don't think it's needed. the stream atm is fine for me and runs without any buffering...hd would require a better conn, could be restricted by your conn and might lead to some charging (sif im paying for a stream).

They could let someone stream only the games that are played at the same time as the ones they are streaming, but seriously doubt they'll do it. If 500 of us wanna see lets say, France vs Russia, and another 500 of us wanna see Sweden vs Germany, in case we have both streams, there will be 500 on each stream (500 on holysh1t.tv). But if Sweden vs Germany doesn't exist, i'm pretty sure at least 450 of those 500 will say, ah fuck it, and go to France vs Russia stream (which is holysh1t.tv, i.e.).

Last time I tried to watch HSTV, there seemed to be some problems at the uploader's side, not at ustream/livestream.

I think I can figure out why exclusive coverage is so special to you and your egos, no worries.

This is a small community to begin with, we need our casters and streamers. If we want to encourage people to cast and stream, things need to be open and opportunities available. As I tried to work something out for over an hour with crystal_method as to how we could both stream, all i got was the same thing repeated over and over and no offers of any solution. 'we don't want to duplicate coverage' (lvl^ are not bothered if we stream the same thing), 'but we will do every game'(lvl^ suggested we pick certain games which they don't cover if they don't want to duplicate footage and that was the response), 'oh and we will boot all the servers' (lvl^ cant boot servers because for some reason id wont give us the ability).

This veiled threat of server booting ability is the real power trip here. They can boot servers because 'id' gave them the ability to and have not given any of us that ability. HS would obviously not share a password with us and indeed if we did get on I believe admin now have the power to kick so we would not last long.

Really its beside the point anyway as we don't want to fight over covering and have a moral standpoint clearly above theirs. I feel we offer different types of coverage and I do value their efforts in multiple platform streams, HD vods etc. I am just of the opinion what what we offer is of value too and not allowing people to choose between the two is pathetic.

The admin of the cups of course would love to have as many streamers as possible but if they don't agree with the demands of hs then their is a possibility that hs could refuse to cover everything, no hd vods, no server booting, basically all the things they know lvl^ cant currently offer etc.

It is just a sad state that monopolies have built up in this game ALREADY with people unwilling to share or work for the best of the community. I am not even sure any of hs actually play ql, so lets hope they get what they want out of it or we could find down the line that once they have killed off all the competition we might be left with nothing all of a sudden.

I'd just like to say that holysh1t are welcome to cover every game if they wish to do so, the "exclusing rights" term is debatable, i've seen conversations between disrepute and legie that say otherwise. (even if it was thrown about in private conversation i'm unaware of).

So in that respect, all i ask is that they provide a good stream of the later games so that i can watch them too. I am very busy in January and in some ways i am glad that this weight is off my shoulders. Sorry to those who were expecting the streams from us but when it works for the user, the streaming quality they can provide is superb (bar the no shoutcasters part, and if i am going to be a total lame ass about that, i'd say that they need somebody like me covering for it...).

So, as for them contacting me directly to work together, yes that has happened, and no it did not go anywhere (i didn't get back to them, so cyrstal_method is correct in what he has said).
Though the term "co-operate" or "partner" is something i am not currently interested in, i don't mind sharing my stream time with other parties, that's fine. But when they say i want to do my own thing.. it goes as far as "my own direction in which to take level up". I have no problem in highlighting publically that i do not feel that holysh1t is a marketable name and something i can push forward with, as we do not just cover for a mature market in quake live ctf.
Which is actually something i made perfectly clear to Crystal_Method. So he has a valid reason as to why i did not get back to him since it would seem (having launched a promotional video that same weekend before i was to get back to him) perfectly clear that it would not work.

Well i was doing streaming for the community and i was really happy that our hard work was acknowledged by leages and cups and getting offered some exclusive content.
For some reason when groups like qltv bring exclusive content it's fine but the community feels we can't.
So as per the wish of the community i pm'ed all cup/league orga i worked together with/had deals with and anyone and everyone can cover whatever they like.

This statement kinda sounds like you are withdrawing from any further coverage.

We saw it as some reward to the hard work we've put in to stream massively, almost continously for all you viewers out there. The exclusiveness of some things were the results of two-way conversations, not just our side. Since most try to get out of it, we've said: k then, let all stream what they like, and we'll see what we'll do in the future. Not sure about that yet and how much effort we will freely keep investing for all you viewers out there. (this also counts for zotac and gdata)

so happy holidays to you all and stream what you want, and hope that you all get to see what you like, whether it's from us - if any - or from others.

I think that the reason is ( or atleast partly ) that holysh1t doesn't have shoutcasters.

For me, tdm is about as exciting to watch without shoutcast as football as I don't understand shit about it :D. Need someone to say what the teams should be doing to tie the game / what mistakes they are doing and so on, so I can follow other than scoreboard going up and dudes hitting nice shots. Maybe even learn thing or 2 while watching.

If the leagues themselves want to restrict who covers their games then more fool them but it would not then be your fault. However having spoken to both leagues admins they would have wanted us to do some streams too.

Therefore it is really down to your choices about who you allow to stream with you or as in this case not with you. You must see it yourself that trying to command coverage through deals rather then quality of content and production is always going to get a hostile response.

Maybe if you had agreed we could just cover the UK games (being as is most of our casters are in the UK squad), and perhaps the semi finals and final. I think most people (maybe including us) would see this as a fair trade off. Or that we cover one group etc, or even that we cast on your stream. But unfortunately all these options were rejected with your attitude that 'you will cover all games and thus we cant cover any', which is just childish and wont win you any fans.

I dont know about qltv but they would get the same response as would we, if put in a similar situation.

These wars between casting stations used to happen all the time over "EXCLUSIVE" coverage (back in the TsN, iTG, XCast, etc Days) - and I know it feels great to have a station "exclusively" cover a cup/competition, but in reality, when it comes to online coverage, everyone should be eating from one giant QUAKE buffet. There's no way a single crew can cover every single game/event from a specific competition unless it was designed that way (a small 8-game/man tournament or something).

When we see stuff like this it not only makes the casting stations look petty and bad, but it also means alot of people are going to miss out on potentially good coverage. (iTG was certainly guilty of this in the past :(

If the communication between all these casting organization opened up I believe they could all serve the community better (and that's the end goal right? Cause no one is making a damn dime doing this stuff.)
