actually i thought the real luck was versus fazz on t4...he just didn't play consistently well against carnage...imho fazz>>>carnage on t4.

in that game he dominates fazz with positioning, the game was close only because he kept forgetting the time on mh, but I didn't see him losing it

Interesting..i counted megas: rapha got two MHs total in each of those matches(carnage/fazz); also during last 2mins with fazz, scores evened up three times and during the last 30secs with both players under 30h, rapha got a reaction shotty to go up 12-10, the final score, instead of a more probable outcome 11-11 and into OT. Fazz's movement skills on t4 can make even the world champ sweat!

fazz is overrated and I would be very surprised if rapha lost to him.

from what i heard, they had this harddrive reset kind of thing whenever a computer rebooted, so nothing anyone might install will stay there

well, I certainly doubt the players got a local administrator account, probably a limited user account so the need to install a driver is not an issue as they wouldn't have the possibility to install anything.

huh? it's got nothing to do with gtv.. the demos are there.

people are interested in the vods.. which were casted really well (even if tosspot is exactly what his name describes). commentary was a++ and the quality of the stream was really good too (not like the free esl one where you cant even read the scoreboard) even tho it was hard to get a hold of schedule. i'd like to re-watch fnatic vs eg via vod because that was a huge game no single/multiple pov demo can serve that game justice.

It's annoying to have to spell out the obvious, so forgive me if I sound a little caustic:

With GTV, anyone can record demos, so there's far less chance of us having to wait weeks before a major tournament decides to release them. This also helps to prevent entire days' worth being lost by lax admin staff.

I'm not complaining about the stream - the commentary was great. But what about all the games that weren't casted due to scheduling conflicts, or the many people without decent internet connections who were unable to watch at all? GTV solves these problems.

Part of the reason for Quake 4's failure as a spectator sport was the lack of GTV for so long. The same factors were at play: laggy streams, lack of coverage due to scheduling issues, late and/or lost demos. And the community gradually lost interest.

Do NOT take the success of Quake Live for granted. I wish we could be that complacent, but the truth is the community needs every bit of encouragement it can get. And that means GTV.

gtv isnt responsible for keeping communitys together, what's more accessible to the people who have never seen a pro gamer play? a gtv or a stream?.. whats better for people who have never seen quakelive a stream or a gtv?

stop being a complete retard and close minded. the general public would much rather watch something on demand or live via stream with casters than a stupid gtv full of spam and laggy as hell.

sure the demos being lost is a bit shit, but thats life not everything runs smooth. id rather the wait for vods being released (if they ever do?) than watching some laggy as hell gtv which is the usual case.

There are so many problems with your arguments it's hard to know where to start.

1. The people who have never seen a pro-gamer play are utterly irrelevant to this discussion. Perhaps I should have clarified that id would lose their core community without GTV.

2. GTV enhances the spectator experience because:

a) It can run at arbitrarily high resolutions, limited only by each user's hardware.

b) It requires far less bandwidth than a stream. If GTV is laggy, a stream running from the same venue will be even worse. You don't seem to understand this at all.

c) Each user controls what he/she wants to view. In a medium where the "right" POV to follow is notoriously difficult to determine, streams frequently miss the action that a particular person wants to view.

3. GTV spam can be disabled - but very few people choose to do so. The ability to communicate with other fans over a broadcast medium is unique, enhancing the viewing experience and strengthening the sense of community amongst spectators.

4. You don't seem to understand that there can be multiple contributing factors to a phenomenon. To repeat myself, lack of GTV was one of the things that caused Quake 4 to lose appeal as a spectator sport. Nobody's denying that the game had other problems as well. Similarly, GTV is not the only thing working to keep communities together, but it's an important factor that cannot be discounted.

5. I'd rather not wait weeks for the VODS, which only cover a fraction of the games played, when I could have immediate access to the demos while I still care about the tournament.

6. Your complacent "well that's just life, lolz!!!" attitude sickens me. Fuck you, and everyone else who tries to stymie efforts to improve something because life's "just like that". It is unacceptable that demos from a major tournament are lost. GTV is a positive response to the fact that "not everything runs smooth". It lessens the possibility of a fuck up, and that's unequivocally a good thing. What the holy mary motherfucker of god christ is wrong with you?

How much of a resource hog is a GTV server?
Could it even be plausible for QL to have a few dedicated servers making all current games available through some kind of GTV?

A new option for each server in the browser to connect as a spectator only. I'd love that.

In addition to that, all demos saved and available on QL as a link from the scoreboard/stats.
Perhaps hogging lots of disk space, but what about the last weeks worth of demos or something?
Server recorded multi-POV of course.

No more lost demos. No more missed demos allowing for cheat accusations. (well, that'd still be there I guess).

When there is a stream, I love the commentary, but until we can have a great AI-commenting bot and AI-producer chosing the POVs, we won't get all games streamed in a good way.

do you think quakeworld lasted as long as it did because of a gtv? get over your pro gtv rant it wont help quakelive, it may help with coverage but that's it. a gtv isnt more important than new maps, gameplay features.. its a fuckin spectator tool, it's not essential.

if they want quakelive to be a good spectator game with lots of tourneys, then yes, it is essential.
