Seriously though. There is a high probability that if you go back long enough the ancestors of most British did come from the continent. So, they should probably get to repatriating them all.

This may sound absurd, but think about this example:
A black child born in the uk has two black parents born in the uk and its grand parents come from four different African countries. To which country would the child be send? if brit & foreigner divorce the exportation or the foreigner would depend on numerous points (caused trouble while here? had kids born here? what job they got? how long have they been here). if theyve been married for 2 years then i see no reason why. some guy at uni came, dropped out in first year and married some local girl from the course, they didnt know each other before the course...not sure how his uni costs would change if at all if he goes back (foreigners pay £12k per year at uni here compared to £3k for uk citizens).

basically i think my idea is better than the current situation. what ive suggested is to just remove foreign criminals whereas another guy from the course has been married to a brit for like 8 years, her 2 kids think of them as their dad and he was working while at uni but they were looking to deport him...i didnt even know people could get deported once married to a national but he was refusing to eat while in some detainment centre & ended up being dropped from the course due to poor attendance. dunno whats happened to him now

yeah the GDP rise was very slow, I think some countries even had a deficit, which is of course caused by the crisis.
And you are also correct that countries with a high gdp per capita grow slower than smaller countries. Partly due to being very developed but also due to simple mathematics!

Just take a very poor country with a gdp of 1000€ per capita, and a rich country with 50000€ per capita.
Then both countries gain 100€ per capita. So every person gets the exact same surplus.
Growth for poor country: 10%, Growth for Rich country: 0.2%

In fact, on a hunch I'd say if all highly industrial countries had 10% for 15 years we would be looking at either an ecological or a financial nightmare.

Exactly. It's the case in almost every European country. France is a very good example of that. Another example is that French leaders (among others but I'm more familiar with French politics) agree to unpopular but necessary policies at the E.U. level (because they know if they introduced these policies at the national level directly they would get really criticized) and then at the national level blame the E.U. for these policies and argue that it's the E.U.'s fault they can't do what they promised in the election campaign. In French media you hear about "Brussels" ordering France to do this and that, while the French leaders have already agreed to everything and sometimes pushed for those very policies themselves.
edit: here's another example of what you mentioned. When he was the mayor of Bordeaux, Alain Juppé asked the E.U. for funds to develop the region. He ended up getting the funds but used them all on his own city, Bordeaux. He did a pretty amazing job with the funds, renovating all the buildings, improving public transportation etc, the city looks really great now. But do you think the people living in Bordeaux have a clue that the money to achieve all that came from the E.U.? Nope...

French words yes, but the English have never spoken the French language. The only people who ever spoke "French" were the Normans, who weren't English.

I was talking from the point of view that the English were forced to speak french, which they were.

And if you consider the extremely large amount of french/latin words that the language absorbed, there must have been a large population of french speakers in Great Britain.

The English weren't forced to speak French, if they were we would speak French and not the Germanic language we speak now.

The Normans who took charge of the country spoke French and a small amount of the English population who joined the aristocracy or served them also learnt French.

We have masses of words loaned from Latin when they were ruling too, but it doesn't mean that people spoke Latin.

I mean that since the aristocracy used french, that means english people were forced to use french in their dealings with the ruling elite, similar to what happened throughout Europe with the Romans.

Of course there were probably many latin words in the english language before the norman invasion, probably since southern britain was a roman province and of course all indo-european languages come from the same point. However if you compare English to other germanic languages such as German or Dutch, or even take a Slavic language such as Polish. All these languages have latin based words, but English has far far more than any of them.

From what I understand about 30% to 60% of English vocabulary is french in origin. That is a very large amount to only come from 1% of the population.

Words are words, language is language.

28% is from Norman French
28% is from Latin (including all the modern science stuff)
25% is from Germanic languages

83% of the most common words used in speech are German though. The majority of the French/Latin words are either technical based (e.g. science/law) or super formal.

The English weren't forced to speak French since an overwhelming majority of the time they wouldn't ever speak to the aristocracy.

same argument happens with Romanian which some people classify it as a neo-latin language just because it has a substratum of slavic words (mostly archaic or religious terms from Old Church Slavonic).

the grammar was always latin (maybe the closest living language in that department), slavic migration brought a lot of new words, then the reforms in 1800's reversed that.

The UK is truly a great country, it excels at many things, but like any other country it has flaws too. Its a changing world and currently immigration is important to the UK, for stabilization, then growth and diversity. The government is pushing it along at a steady pace, so this means short term pain for long term gain. Its not blessed in this area like some other countries, which are so attractive they can afford to pick and choose who they want to join them. A sign of good government is that they turn negatives into ugly positives(neutrals) and this wouldn't work if it was common knowledge its truly a negative. There's a charade about leaving people in and this brings hype and myth which is perfect for when your trying to sell an idea to someone. The truth is the country would rot without immigration, its a case of perception equals a tidy chunk of reality. God save the Queen!

It is interesting that these parties gain popularity all over Europe.

Like the one mentioned in the post, which are pro-patriotic and considered as racist by some groups. Now if everyone thinks about disbanding the people from their countries, the customers they rely on, the immigrants on the shoulders the economy has been built up again and is still building up for a low wage, where is this leading to?
