you don't really get the meaning behind gl/gg. it has nothing to do with you wanting your opponent to have luck, or at the end of the game you think your opponent played well. it's about respect and sportmanship, like in any other sport/competition between mature people.

Respect. gl, hf, gg and all the other nonsensical abbreviations ooze uninterest, indifference, up to apathy. They are the utterances of the speechless, the love songs of the impotent, the social skills of the generation of imbeciles.

I don't wish them luck and I don't care if they have fun. The fact I'm playing against them, not cheating and plan on finishing the game is enough if you ask me.

I don't have much to add that I didn't say in #43. The point is not really wishing your opponent the luck of having the best spawn or lucking out at sudden death. It's about acknowledgement and sportmanship. The same reason chess players or tennis players shake hands before/after a match.

Bigger morons are the people who don't bother responding to a "hi" at a duel warmup. Well to be honest the biggest morons are the ones who give up a duel mid-way and don't even have the courtesy to ragequit, but simply "team s" and expect a rematch. I barely ever say anything to anyone on servers and when I do it's to actually say something rather than say nothing.

I realise it's a sportmanship thing, but saying "gl hf" at the start of every damn game is not only pointless it's stupid. The very act of pressing the ready up button is the same, just you haven't "said" anything (not that "gl hf" is saying anything as you pointed out).

I've never understood this fixation people have with this sort of thing, I always laugh when people get raged because somebody didn't say please or thank you.

I remember Hakeem owned one of the first Q3 test tournaments on t2 with shaft only. Wombat had almost equal shaft aim but sneakier play and won vs. Xenon 1:0 in a 20min overtime match. Also wombat used the brown sarge as model because it was less visible.

Wombat had the coolest aiming style I have ever seen. I tried to copy his style with cloth pad, wingman and his cfg but I was so far from stylish :/

A quitter in Dota wastes a lot more of "my time" than a quitter in Quake though, imo.

My strategy is typing in a random string including "g" "l" "h" "f", and pressing my smiley bind. Then ingame I just type gg when I get fragged.
