There's an UFC next saturday with one of the top fighters in the world, Anderson Silva, against a former light heavyweight champ Forrest Griffin in the co-main event. Silva is my favorite fighter and I think he'll win with a TKO round 2 or 3. He's the middleweight champ.

The main event is a championship bout between BJ Penn (holder) and Kenny Florian. My prediction is Penn wins by submission, round 3.

Hell, Frank Mir had his knee taped and wasn't even fighting like a champion should be (GSP's performance that night, even when he pulled his groin, was much better). He went to a decision against Heath Herring, who always lost to anybody good and had gone to a decision his last 4 fights before facing Brock.

Compared to Fedor, Brock's the one who's overrated.. Fedor suffered a suplex from a tough Randleman years back that should have killed him, but he gets right back up and beats the shit out of him. His only loss was only a technicality from the tournament format of the matchup where he got illegally cut. He embarassed Sylvia and hit a sick counter against Arlovski early on to knock him out cold. Brock's probably, pound-for-pound, the weakest champion in the UFC right now, and would get stomped by Fedor.

Let me point out a couple interesting observations: Brock was kicking Mir's ass when he lost the first fight, and Fedor was losing to Arlovski when he won.

MMA is quite the betters bastard. I think it's very dangerous to stand with Brock. His power and reach are devastating, even if unpolished. If Fedor decides to game for that kind of strategy, he will be inviting a shit ton more risk into the fight.

On the flipside, Lesnar's chin hasn't REALLY been tested and maybe a full fledged assault by Fedor could work. But keep in mind Couture, Mir and Heath have all been dropped by the vanilla Gorilla who has been cited to have little to no stand-up. Oh really?

What do you say about Rocky Graciano? He couldn't box as well? It's way more complicated then you make it out to be. Some boxers rely on their cover, others like Tyson or Graciano use evasive movement, which is far more skilled at a high level. Fedor uses that too by the way. Oh, and what a coincidence, they are all legends.

Tyson could not possibly be overrated after his world record achievements. His punches still had no match, even in his later career. But his mind was ill. Tyson had demons to fight all his life, being a street kid without real parents, getting abused and so on. As he lost his foster father, he lost his grip on life and reality I guess. He went to prison. He made life threats to his boxing opposition. That was not the same boxer anymore, he was broken. So sad.

Damn I mixed up the names. I watched all media about those fighters I could find, like the mike tyson story on dvd (all his fights up until his first losses), all fights I could find of Rocky Marciano, and looked for opinions about their fighting styles. At the time, the reason was that many knowledgable box fans rated marciano higher then tyson, which wasn not comprehensible for me. I was boxing myself as fitness training for some month, and only then I realized how incredibly skilled and dedicated boxers are. To judge a boxer by his style and then implying "he only had hard punches" or tmth. like that is very far from the truth. Tyson was a very technical boxer as well, just he used a different style. To build up a physique like that is years of hard work and insane training. Why would that be any less admirable?

In my opinion, Tyson's fear of losing allowed him to train harder than anyone else. On the other hand, as he had no people supporting him anymore as he had until the peak of his career, this fear suddenly was a big handicap. He did not train as hard anymore, maybe because the people he surrounded himself with told him how he was so great and unbeatable or whatever. At the scaling (is is called that?) he overcame his fear by showing agression and disrespect, very similar to many american ufc fighters. Tyson once believed in one fundamental teaching of his foster father that he repeated in a bunch of interviews:"What is the difference between a hero and a coward? There ain't no difference. Inside they're both exactly alike. They're both scared of dying or getting hurt. It's what the hero does that makes him a hero. What the other guy doesn't do makes him a coward." He did not follow his own advice anymore, that's why he lost. (also because his style was analyzed inside out, he would have needed to progress, which he didn't).

Anyway, I'll let this one go... the Brock hating will have to go on without me. A lot of it is warranted on a personal level. But I feel people have to be realistic about Fedor, Pride and Finklestein.

There are plenty of legit reasons for it to not be worth signing with UFC. One point that the UFC seems to consistently overlook is that there's more to it than the paycheck they're offering.

UFC is an organization based thousands of miles from Russia. They have good fighters, but certainly there are good fighters elsewhere too. The argument someone needs to fight in the UFC just because of their other fighters doesn't really hold weight. Of course, there would be good matchups.

Another point Fedor brought up was the UFC has clauses essentially preventing their #1 fighter from ever leaving - but if a fighter loses a few matches, the UFC can essentially just terminate the contract. M1 probably offers more freedom and fewer strings. All the UFC offers is just 1 guy, Lesner, exposure to a US audience (even though the NYTimes is writing articles about him on their own...), and a stop-loss contract that would prevent Fedor from ever leaving.

Let's not even mention Fedor's opinions in any of these matters. It's pretty clear his jewish manager/mob affiliated douche-boss makes all the decisions.

Watching Brock reminds of watching Kerr and Coleman in the early days when they were jacked on steroids. Their combination of strength and wrestling ability meant they could hold dominant position so easily. But Brock is an even huger version of the same theme. It's also worth noting that, although Kerr and Coleman once looked almost unbeatable on account of their size, they ended up being far from it.

Lesnar has only 5 matches under his belt. And of those 5, his performance has been somewhat mixed. His athletic ability is going to pose interesting problems for anyone he fights. Be interesting to see whether he can keep dominant position on the ground with Fedor. Fedor is just so aware and slippery on the ground, he always manages to take dominant positions.

I'm a big fan of Fedor, and I do think he would win. However, I don't think he is untouchable like some others do. It's starting to sound like the almost religious faith people had in Royce and Rickson back in the day. To date, Fedor has always found a way to win. But he has shown some vulnerabilities vs Arona, Hunt and Fujita.
