Well, I dunno about that because mostly it was all internet marketing. I remember scanning the official Blair Witch Project website and all the stuff they did to push it as a "legit" documentary. I think this was back in 2000? But I think back then "viral marketing" was hardly as effective as it is today.

The movie was genuinely creepy for people who didn't know what they were watching. Everyone now knows it's fake, what it's about, and have seen millions of parodies of the the infamous scene of the woman spraying boogers onto the camera-lens. It's hard to sit down today and watch BWP with an open mind.

Watching it at home 10 years ago, alone and at night it was quite effective. Dunno how it holds up today, guess i would switch it off. Anyone seen the sequel? Now that was bad!

A lot of horror movies require a mindset going INTO the viewing. If you had no pre-conceptions about the movie at all before viewing it, and watched it at home, at midnight, alone, the chances are that the movie would creep the fuck out of you.

I've never had goose-bumps watching a movie. Until I saw the Blair Witch Project. It is a movie with a punch-line that is so strong that it only works once though.

Day was great too. Because in the first two movies you hope that the protagonists survive the situation. In Day on the contrary the viewer gets more on the side of the zombies because all humans are depicted as complete assholes.
Diary of the Dead is the only zombie movie by Romero that really sucks.

there has been quite a few better american horror films since 1999's blair witch project, atleast in my opinion and imdb ratings seem to somewhat agree too.

The sequels are way more fun then the first part. In part 2 the crash with the truck is brilliant! Still get goosebumps when I overrun a truck loaded with trees at the Autobahn!

I dunno, I wouldn't really call 30 days of night a horror film in the same way that I wouldn't call "True Blood" a horror series, it's just a drama with an unusual setting. Good film though.

Haute tension is quite decent. Didnt care about Frontiers and P2, crap in my opinion. Only movie I would recommend in this genre would be Martyrs.

saw it in the cinema whenever it came out, thought it was complete shit when they were in the forest, however the very end when they are in the house i thought was very good (and scary)

the question is, WHERE did you watch it? the first time around, i saw it on VCD (!!!) using a laptop. it was so boring i turned it off half way through. a couple of years later, it was screened at a local club with a very good sound system. the experience was much better. i'm not saying it was a good movie but the audio team did a pretty neat job.

You are naive. Ghosts and monsters are the classic metaphors in horror movies for suppressed fears, so saying they don't exist is the childish attitude. They have their counterpart in reality and that's what makes them work. If you take them literally of course, the whole genre of horror is reduced to an immature display of pseudo-creepy visuals. Granted, there are many cheap movies like that, however they have no substance and are for kids.
