Thought Hatton would do better tbh. It does seem like most of his previous opponents (excluding mayweather obv.) haven't been able to counter his aggressive 24/7 punch style. Pacquiao is a smarter boxer than Hatton and he knew exactly what to do which shows in the result..

I don't agree with people saying Hatton should retire, I think he has got more to give and he's always a really entertaining fighter inside and outside the ring - unlike some. He did say he thought he's in his prime in an interview given before the fight so we shall see if his bad showing against Pacquiao will effect him and if he plans to continue.

He should call it a day soon or stay well away from those on the level of Marquez, Pac and Mayweather. He was rocked a lot of times vs Lazcano and Malignaggi wobbled him. When you're being rocked by Paulie you know something is wrong as that guy has one of the weakest punches ever and his hands break constantly.

Hatton is like what Roy Jones was. He has an ability that he relies which is his chin (Roy’s was insane athleticism). Once that’s gone you just can’t do it anymore against the best. You age and take punishment on the chin turning into mush. You wake up one morning and can't hack it anymore let alone against the very best. I can't see Hatton being content against anyone less than the best.

There is no shame at all losing to Pac (or Mayweather) but you should be able to hang in there for more than 6 minutes if you’re of a similar calibre. As for what’s next he’ll either call it a day or I think he'll take on Khan at Wembley/Manchester if not it’ll be Holt or Bradley and try to retire with a win over another top 140 champion.

I hope he goes for the latter two because as much as I hate Khan he’s one of the quickest fighters right now and has the best trainer who has just got the better of Hatton and he’ll only get better.

of those, khan is the bigger draw, you're looking at 45,000 + tickets and over a million buys but he's the youngest, fastest, most promisiing and trained by Roach. Besides that Ricky has already said he's not too interested in Khan, but money talks so who knows?

I think he could hang with Marquez because he's not as explosive as Pac but it'll be the same result just later in the fight but will they give him that fight? Providing he's still a draw Mayweather will fight him but he didn't even try last time and won with little effort, a second time is just going to be a repeat.

Khan not have the southpaw, elusiveness or strength advantages Pac had against Hatton. That said he'll out box him for sure and win a decision if it went the distance, probably knock him out if he got to him but one or two clean shots and he's screwed. No doubt in my mind Khan can win, but it'll be a far cry from an easy sure win.

Khan doesn't make sense. Hatton is like Sturm in Germany, he can fight anyone and fill a stadium. He doesn't need Khan for that. Beating him is no gain and losing does carry shame. Witter is a far better choice if he wants to be domestic.

I hate to bring race into things, as irrelevant as it is, but when was the last time Pacquiao fought a black fighter? He's gone through Morales, Barrera, De La Hoya, Hatton, and Marquez.

Let's see if I can make this Pacquiao-Mayweather fight more challenging for Pretty Boy Floyd.

Here is the blueprint for beating Manny Pacquiao:

Step 1. Do not be over-the-hill and at the end of your career.
Step 2. Make sure your only good win wasn't against someone over-the-hill and at the end of his career.
Step 3. During rounds 1 (and possibly 2), do not fight Manny Pacquiao, merely measure him so you can make the proper adjustments.

Marquez and Hatton did not follow step 3, which cost Marquez a fight he should have won, and Hatton a fight he was probably going to lose anyway. Least it could have gone more than 2 rounds.

point 3 only stands if someone actually beat him, after finishing round 2.

Mayweather has been carefully matched all his career and is now beating on smaller guys like Marquez although its a good enough comeback fight so we will have to see if he goes on to fight a LWW mosely or cotto or williams.. Cant see it happening with Pacman cause of Arum's dislike of Mayweather although the money may just talk in the end, and he will have to come down and fight at a catchweight.

Here's a long serious babbling post, non fan boy and realistic so don't be surprised if some of it contradicts what I've wrote in other replies.

Mayweather has been more than tested. Anyone who thinks otherwise are pretty clueless. Claiming he has been carefully matched for all of his carrear is just silly.

He always lands among the top 3 junior lightweights of all time. He went into the ring against Gernaro Hernadez another all time great at junior lightweight. It was Mayweather's 18th pro fight at 21, Hernadez, had already been in 40 fights and lost just the once. Mayweather made him quit in the 8th. He then goes against Diego Corrales as a huge underdog. Corrales was far bigger than Mayweather and had much heavier hands. Mayweather puts him down 5 times with ease before it got stopped.

That said he has avoided the true elite at 147, but you have to look at it both ways. Of those guys he fought, they nearly all had at least 8lbs on him and at least two fighters had more. He fought Oscar as a light middleweight. Mayweather came in at 150 and DLH at 155. Come fight night DLH would have been 165. Floyd, never ever balloons like that. He has nearly always been undersized compared to his opposition. You do not want to be undersized against someone like Miguel Cotto, that's just asking for trouble. Just look at what Cotto did at 140, nothing short of ruthless. Easy when you're coming in 20lbs heavier than everyone.

But yes, I would love to see him in their with just one big WW. I don't care who, Berto, Clottey, Cotto, or Mosley. Williams in all honestly, shouldn't be a WW.

Here's another point. Marquez and Pac can go at it, they are considered evenly matched weight wise. So why is Mayweather being pushed to fight Pac without criticism although people are doing nothing but bitch about how much heavier he'll be than Marquez. Come fight night, don't be shocked if Marquez comes in heavier than Mayweather. Mayweather will most likely be 145-147 at the weigh in and when he enters the ring. Marquez was 141 and 140 for his last two fights at lightweight and he was ripped. He said he wants to come in at 144 of solid mass, that'll put him at pushing 150 on fight night. There's an inch difference in height, that's pretty damn even.

In a nut shell, the guy has proved himself as a boxer and anyone who questions otherwise are clueless.

As for Hatton, I agree. Although not on the potential all time greats. They are both all time greats. Manny is probably already landing the top 20 and depending on what he does for his next few fights (think wins over Mayweather, JMM, another WW and cleaning 140) he can land top 10 easily. I doubt he'll stick around for anymore than 3 fights at most though.

I am not denying he is a great boxer but for someone who claims to be king, the best p4p and the rest of the trash talk he has ducked fighters, there is no doubt in that. He had a great career below 140 fighting good opposition but I cant remember if he ever unified?..he always left and moved up instead of taking on the best and the biggest fights. All the fights you mentioned are great victories except he fought a very drained corrales. Eeven below 140 he avoided the biggest fight with Mosely then and looks like avoiding him still. Good fights with castillo as well but close calls, he defended against average opponents and then moved up again.. He fought judah when he should have fought margarito who was calling him out..He avoided vivian harris who was publicly calling him out at Gatti press confrence..He fought a past his prime Oscar and nearly lost.. Thats what i mrean he hedges his bets smartly and wont fight the true elites of divisions he has been a champion in... Having said all that he is possibly one of the best boxers of his generation and has some amazing skills and great wins over guys like castillo (controversial wins), gatti, baldomir etc.. I just think he needs to fight some true elites to have a legacy where people dont remember him for never unifying titles and avoiding the best fighters..

On the other hand manny has fought the best of the bunch so I do rate him higher even if he loses to mayweather if they fight.

The Corrales weight issue is pretty iffy. The reports about it only came into light after the devastating loss. If he was that sick before the bout (reported malnutrition and vomiting last time I checked) it would have made a lot more noise and raised a lot more eyebrows than it did. In general I probably do agree, the guy was crazy big to be a super featherweight but at the same time he made the same weight another four times or something - and twice against the great Joel Casamayor one of which he won, so it couldn't have been that big of an issue.

Floyd never ducked Shane. He is ducking him now (I don't know why, I think that's an easy fight for him) but he called Shane out back then. He was willing to move up, but Shane decided he wanted DLH instead.

The fights against Castillo were not close. I can see why people think the first was close, many regard it as very controversial and think it's Mayweather's sole loss. Fact of the matter is: punches to the elbows and gloves do not count and that's all Castillo managed to do for the most part. Although he (Floyd) didn't throw anywhere near as much, he always landed clean and that is what scores. The second was a far cry from close, a convincing (and probably needed) win which shut critics up.

True about Margarito to a degree although back then people didn't care. They only moan about it now, after Margarito made a name for himself. Not that that's a good excuse but Judah still had a strap and that proved to be a real good fight (minus the ring riot halfway through). People were more annoyed that he skipped Baldomir (was ranked as the lineal champ and had just beat Zab), yet he took that fight next after the press whine and made Baldomir look like a newbie and still got stick for it.

Vivian Harris? Come on now, that's just like the Hatton and Witter situation or Froch and Calzaghe. Would you really have put Witter in with Hatton back then? It was the same thing. You can't fight everyone that calls you out. Vivian lost to Carlos Maussa anyway and Witter at that.

Everything else after the Judah fight has been a farce though, which is the 147 and DLH territory but I think we pretty much agree there. Anyone would have been better than Gatti, Hatton, Baldomir and Mitchell. I must say though, I'm glad for the Gatti fight. What a fucking beating that was. Testament to how much heart Gatti has got, that's for sure and a blinding showcase reel.

I'll just mention DLH though. Although it was a very close call, and arguably Mayweather's closet call, it was reminisce of the first Castillo match. Yes Oscar was past it, but Mayweather is a small welterweight let alone a light middleweight. Still he landed around 60% of his punches against DLH. That was the 'harsh reality of Mayweather;s ability' as Larry Merchant put it (he detests Mayweather). Still, a money spinning match that shouldn't have happened really.

Unifying is impossible in this day and age, I wish it wasn't but it really is. You get two belts and one body asks you to drop one or the other and so on. I think Hopkins was the last person to have all 4 belts of a division. People shouldn't rate soup belts anyway. That's a great thing about the UFC I guess.

So yeah, he most certainly should fight an elite 147 guy or at least shut up and drop to 140. He has to get past JMM first anyway. The more I think about it the more of a chance I give JMM.

As for Pac - yeah Pac has the better names on his resume but he was lucky enough to have 2 ATG fighters in same weight classes. He did lose to one and it can be argued (fairly) that both were not quite once what they were but you can do that for every fighter and fight out there so it's pointless. His Hatton credit is worth everything but his Diaz, JMM and Oscar ones are not that worthy. I say JMM because both result are too disputed, not in terms of the quality of fighter.

catch weights are stupid and defeat the object of weight classes, although the 140-147 is the biggest jump in boxing so I can see why it presents a huge problem for some.

Why are you people fans of violent, combative sports? I've always been interested in it, why people like it, not the sports themselves.

I'd be willing to explain why I like certain sports (rugby, tennis, cricket, football) if someone would do the same for me.

I can recognise that their is a great deal of technique and physical prowess but the idea of watching two people kick the shit out of one and other is about the furthest thing from entertainment that I can think of.

I’m not that sure, but I’ll give it a go from the boxing side of the fence. A lot of this can probably be applied to other combat sports but some of them are too restrictive (too short, semi-contact, or whatever).

It’s the ultimate test.

A fighter can be in the most supreme condition of his life, yet if his mental game isn’t up to scratch then it doesn’t matter one bit.

Discipline is absolutely brutal. You can have all the boxing skill in the world, if you’re not disciplined mentally (or physically) then as before, it just doesn’t matter.

Boxing (on an elite level) demands the absolute pinnacle of your given physical ability. There is no ‘on-season’ which you train for but a tiny 45 minute window where it’s all or nothing and then that’s it for another 5 months if you’re lucky.

It’s just you, and him. There are no environmental factors that can mess with an outcome. There’s no team of people that can hide a bad day or help you along.

The idea of taking punishment if you don’t perform really brings the best out of people and shows them what they are truly capable of under pressure. If a tennis player looses, he looses. Come back another day, try again. The same can be said about a boxer sure, but a tennis player isn't going to be getting his faced smashed in during the loosing process.

You’ll never see more heart in another combat sport (or any other sport). If someone can find me something with more heart than what fighters Mickey Ward and Artuo Gatti shown then I’ll eat my own shit.

You’ll see the best comebacks in boxing. Physical despair just gives it that edge. I can see why comebacks are great in all sports, most people enjoy and appreciate them whether or not they follow the sport but it lacks the inflicted physical damage that makes you think ‘it really is all over’. I can’t really express what I mean but YouTube Diego Coralles – Jose Luis Castillo and you’ll understand. Just watch the whole thing, it’s worth it.

If a footballer twists his ankle, he’s off the pitch. Let alone fighting with broken hands, ribs, joints that have been dislocated or an eye that you can’t see out of. The only time a boxer doesn’t fight is if he isn’t allowed (doesn’t make weight), the doctor says no at the medical or he’s taking such a beat down the referee says that’s enough.

I could go on, but I’m rambling poorly as it is, so I’ll leave it that.

One of the best British boxers who did not fulfill his potential IMO. I saw his career/fighting/abilities going down the pan after splitting with Brendan Ingle.. Some of those ring entrances though..truly cringeworthy.

Apparently he was extremely deluded and truly thought he was praised by Allah and couldn't be beat. He thought Barrera posed no threat and was not a class above anyone he had currently faced so didn't bother turning up to camp and when he did he didn't try. He was more interested in having his friends and family over and living the large life in a LA mansion. So the story goes by Emanuel Steward who was training him at the time.

A shame because if anyone could have made the most of Naseem it would have been Steward because he's a Roach like character and trained a wealth load of champions and ATGs.
