probably d3. eye candy draws a lot of people in. i remember how i'd buy games just by looking at graphics when i was a kid. i still play the original doom from time to time when im bored at work but i didn't even bother completing doom 3.

with the same graphics engine, definitely not Doom 3.

noone is disputing that Doom 3's graphics engine is better.

I was thinking of Crytek's games and the dynamic soundtrack works very well at matching the mood and pace in-game and adds to the experience. But there's things to be said for no music as well.

Yeah me too, and I think in a game like D3 there shoud be no music but the awesome sound ambient. Btw I think there was in fact music just a few times, the rock theme.

Actually, it wasn't too bad in F.E.A.R.

Doom 3 rocks and I am pretty confident D4 will be a lot better. Lots and lots of gore, heavy weapons, zombies and monsters to shoot at, great graphics, native coop and I will happy for at least an year.

i had to rewrite my msg and i forgot to mention they keyword "multiplayer" . Doom3 was like playing in a closet but still had it good points, quake4 was decent tho in SP.

Theyr multiplayer have been flopping last years, and seems like theyr trying to make up for it with quakelive, but so many are tired of the "same old" quake3 and that you can only get so so good in it.
Much higher skill level can be reached in a game like quake1.

The multiplayer has been flopping because most people dont like Deathmatch games like Quake nowadays. It takes too much time to get into, too hard to learn. People want to jump on a Server and start killing people in realistic enviroments with realistic weapons.
Thats why CS and BF have been so successfull and the ID games havent.
The "masses" dont want a higher skill level like quake1, believe me...and do have a successfull MP game you need to reach the mass of gamers, not some oldschool quake nerds like we are.
But i enjoy playing QuakeLive after 6-7 years of not playing Qauke3 anymore!

If the game is going to happen on earth, expect high ass requeriments. After so many open games I feel like playing claustrophobic D3 or QW singleplayer games again.

Motion capture works really great for games that simulates REALITY.. You know, like football, skateboard and base ball games and shit like that. This is DOOM for fucks sake.

Motion capture is the very basis of telling the audience that: "hey.. we have no original idea left for this character, we just wanna make him look real-ish".

True. But I recall John Carmack saying he would be happy to release a new Doom title with 720 and PS4. I don't believe he was talking about D4. While that is not likely to happen as the next-next gen consoles are probably going to arrive in late 2012, a release date in Q4 2011 seems pretty reasonable to me.

Mainly I'm talking about the map design. It could so easily be just corridor after corridor like Doom 3 was...but with more monsters (and more lights) which is Serious Sam, not Doom. Doom 2's levels where more imaginative and sprawling.

But it also applies to having great monsters. tbh I'd like to see them keep the entire D2 monster set, but add in the Fiend, Ogre and Shambler :)

Oh, and monster infighting back, had loads of fun with that in final doom :P
