"Underground" music being considered "good" has always been around and an object of pure opinion. I agree that there are plenty of "underground" artists which are 1000000x better than any mainstream bullshit hip-hop you hear on the radio now a days. But I think this argument will always be made as long as music is around. People have been spouting that mainstream music is terrible since, well, music has been "mainstream."

True but when you consider the number of genre-leaders who have died in the space of the last 15 years prematurely it's going to hurt the overall strength of the genre. In other genres like jazz or prog-rock people can have 50 year careers where they released 20+ studio albums and 30 live albums. If we had that long from pac, eazy etc I imagine hiphop would be a hell of a lot more exciting right now.

I agree though in that I can always come back to all the classic shit like pac whereas a track which comes out now and which sounds hot can be annoying 3 months down the line.

I dunno what is more crazy: the amount of good tracks he managed to get recorded in that short an amount of time career-wise (albeit many of them without proper beats at the time) or the fact the guy did all he did by age 25. So many rappers come off as fakes in the face of his kind of genuine charisma. Sadly you only seem to get a handful of those kinds of people per generation per genre.

1. Many jokes are made based on the general conception people have about a subject, be it that jews are cheap or that all emos cut themselves, and every God damn joke in the universe offends someone (in this case you.) Lighten up.

3. Other douches will inevitably agree about pretty much anything one could make jokes about, and some will be offended.

It's just that it's a bit too easy to make fun of rap because of shitty artists like soulja boy etc. And tbh most people that say the things you mentioned in your post actually mean it and don't think twice about categorizing the entire genre as "garbage".

Pretty much every genre suffers from the same fate (though there might be exceptions to this, I'm far from an expert on the subject.) It's a sad truth, and I don't think there's any way to do anything about it. People will always be ignorant, for whatever reasons.
