In view of quake live tournament at quakecon and considering that quakelive is still a private beta is it a fair call to have a tournament ?

the possible solutions are:

1. Make a public release of QL beta, it still stays in beta phase and gets improved but not private anymore, I think the 2/3 week time frame is not that bad for gamers since it is not much different from quake 3 anyway should not take that much time to adapt.

2. Disallow all beta testers from participating.

3. Put more emphasis on the fact that it is not world apart from quake 3 and people should be able to pick it up on the word GO and do not distinguish between beta testers / non testers. this argument has problem if they use some new 1v1 map, the remake of older ones are not a problem.

Though many will be facing problems in option 3 since they would not be able to use their q3 cfg right away and might not feel comfortable. But I feel this can be tolerated since I recall in the beginning of quake 4 there were tourneys which allowed players only use gui based menu options to configure cfg and nothing else.
Also reminds me of the infamous Michael "winz" Bignet incident, who infact used a custom cfg when likes of toxic and cooller were stuck with gui.

option 1 is reasonable imho since ID had held tourney on Q3test around 1999, which in essence was a beta, and not a finished game....but was it public ? I dont know ..back in 1999 I was not into quake.

Can we have a quick ESR poll ?
