i see this excuse come up over and over, he lagged right there so that could have changed the game. Ill clarify for you what would have happened: Jon4than was at low health regardless, i didnt watch the demo(only saw this live), but he caught a rocket going out the tele he couldnt have dodged any way. If he didnt lag, he would still be at much lower health and a worse situation than vo0, and even if he managed to kill Vo0 in this situation, Vo0 would have spawned close to the upper YA that had already spawned, giving him the upper hand again.

So all in all:

I agree. Just look at forever, the Q4 Internet King, and on LANwe all know what happened. I'm not saying that it would eventually happen to noctis as well, but it's yet too early to put him in the same line as Cooller, czm, fox or Toxic.

I also know that av3k never really cared about internet games and he wasn't playing serious. He behaved really pathetic, ignoring 250+ on GTV and noctis indeed was better. However I'm quite sure if he cared, the games would be close (maybe except for hub).

it's obvious both are very skilled, however their tactical choices on crucial moments aren't as smart as say, rat's or aph's of the old days. I appreciate +forward but a little more brains wouldn't hurt, esp for the Polish players who have the ping disadvatage.

CPMA always has a flow of new players and rarely holds on to the old skilled ones, so the +forward technique is used a lot because you can. Sad no cpm3a was played :-(

I think Vo0 makes many very smart plays in the 1a game. 22 isn't a tactic kinda map, just more speed/aim/spawnkill/control. But I think Vo0 does play very smart to get control back on a map that is infamous for being hard to get control back from a well-stacked player. Especially against a player of Jon's caliber.

I can´t understand why there is no crying about ping from the players. jonath4n vs gelle was 50 vs 110 ping, vo0 vs jon was 30 vs 50.

The players believes its fair, the North American players knew they would have to play on european servers as this is an european cup, and the polish players knew they would have to play on german/.nl servers rather than getting to play on their local polish servers. The pings here was fair, Vo0 played with ping that was 300% higher than what he is used to, and jon4than plays with the same ping he always plays on.

well i don't play q3 but i have 10 ms on polish servers... so why do you think that jon play on 50-60ms instead of 10, while he has got similar connection? he plays only vs foreigners or what?

Well ok i dont know exactly what jon4than does ALWAYS, but the polish quake 3 servers are very bad, packetloss unstable ping, yes your game may report 10 ms in-game, great but what about packetloss and what about the upstream ping? what about the ping from poland->world ?

if you go into a tournament knowing you'll have to play on central servers or likely have an unstable connection and don't want then then you shouldn't even join in the first place

Ah, again the debate over CPMA netcode. People seem to forget that although it might be better for high pingers (as opposed to osp) it's also better for the low pingers, so all in all the ping advantage is still there. And the fact that it's 'only' 20 ms is bs cause at the highest level it comes down to small details which determine the outcome of the match :)

No it doesn't. Except in cases like both players would die from one rail shot and they shoot (almost) at the same time, the lower pinger gets the kill. Which is a VERY difficult thing to happen.

Well, yes! The scenario I made is one of the only ones where a 20ms ping difference would REALLY make a difference (with CPMA netcode) and MAYBE "could determine the outcome of the match" as you said.

I'm not going to edit my post above where I agree with someone else that he is the best CPMer right now. The fact of the matter is I don't know.

I do know he is a very gifted and talented dueler. On par with everybody else that I've seen when he's motivated. When I say everybody, I mean everybody.

It was his demos which started my journey in enjoying a good 1v1 many years ago - and in my opinion, his demos are the most entertaining out there. I don't see that changing anytime soon.

That and Hal9000 was simply getting outplayed on 22. Watch the game and see how HAL gets cornered constantly not by Vo0's outstanding aim, but by tactic and speed.

This whole ping thing is a joke.

Vamp1re showed the world that CPMA's netcode is unbelievable. He was able to hit insane LG percentages and rails with 110+ ping against world-class players.

Ping differences, especially only 20 to 40 ping, is not a huge deal.

CPMA netcode is good but I feel a lot of difference still between ping 100 and 50. If both players have equal LG skill, 30 ping will win 50 anyday in LG combat. It can make the difference in a close game.

well from my own experience lg depends more on the stability of ping and packet loss etc, than the absolute value of it. I have seen people hitting crazy lg percentage in both vq3 and cpm when they have a very steady and stable yet high ping, but when it varies (even like +/- 5 ) it seems very difficult to lg, and he had like constant 3% packet loss.

That makes sense, can't anticipate LG lag then.

I've actually thought about doing this myself. No need to win the lottery for me though.

I was thinking about - from time to time - offering a $1,000 reward for tournament winners for games I enjoy to spec.

CPM would be one, Warsow would be another. The problem is I don't know ANYBODY that would organize such a thing, and I would hope my efforts would draw in a large amount of quality players.

I mean, look what stryfe did with his UT3 tournament. He put on a tournament and offered up the prize cash out of his own pocket.

Frankly, I'm surprised I don't see a lot more of this. Maybe there is a lot of this going on, and I'm just ignorant about it.

Better yet, we could all pool our cash for the games of our choice. We all add a few dollars and pay for the winners. Forget the CPL. Forget the WSVG. Community run, community funded and community rewards. By rewards I mean spectating a nice tournament the players hopefully care about.

I can already see a host of problems for tournaments such as these. Especially "online" tournaments. Which is what initially turned me off to the whole idea, and still does.

I feel about the same on this as you do. We should fund us some nice CPM and Warsow tourneys.
