In the UK we have consumer rights. For home shopping like ordering online there is a cooling off period where you can cancel an order 7 days after receiving it with no penalty. You might have something like that in Sweden too.

Honestly now... It's a laser mouse, and it's made by Razer... The only decent thing about Razer is their marketing, but even that is a bit shady.

Well, Razer's Diamondbacks and Kraits were just as good as MX518 when it comes to the sensor.

The regular diamondbacks had a pixel jitter problem only fixable thru drivers.

The krait and db plasma use an infrared sensor that tracks the mousing surface at a higher than optimal height.

I use a little bit more than 2 razer mantis mousepads for full 360� turn. That would make ~ 90 cm. I dont understand how some ppl can aim precisely at 20/360 sensitivity or higher, if u have to move the crosshair for 1 or 2 pixels...

I use 38cm for 360. In cs this is medium sens. (2.6 ingame, default windows sens). I never do 360 tho, 180 at most, thats 19cm, half of my qpad. Its really not that low imo.

U should deincrease DPI to 400 and then try again. All high dpi mouses i have is ok on 400DPI even Fatal1ty 1010 or Razer Copperhead and over 800DPI they are useless. But i prefer IE3 ;) And yes i prefer low sensitivity.

This could have been the greatest mouse ever, all Razer had to do was not fuck up.

Either Razer should fix this with some kind of driver update or whatever, or Microsoft should swap it's sensor with something like the IE 3.0's.

True, a mouse with built-in 1000Hz will be much better than one with 125Hz, if only on the smoothness side of things. The problem is that mice like the CH/Habu and G5 that DO come with increased polling have much greater problems to worry about, like actually tracking properly on any speed - something that reliable-sensor mice like the DB/Krait/MX518 can pull off despite the Hz limitation.

So yes, the MX518 may be OMGLOL!!125Hz out of the box, which is amendable by said USB patch, but find a laser mouse that isn't ROFLCOPTERTRACKING whose sensor is shite to begin with and even McFly will be among the first to buy it.

no it's not, it's 125Hz and cannot be changed with a "usb patch".
you're confusing refresh rate of USB ports (which are OCable) and refresh rate of the mice's sensor.

that's my point.

imagine you have a mice with 8ms latency, plus you have a LCD monitor with 8ms latency, plus etc..
these small latencies combined together are making a final latency that starts to matter, isn't it ?

ok admittedly if i DO have the option of reducing latency then i generally go for it myself. but again, it would deffo not be the deciding factor in purchasing a mouse (for me anywayz).

However, months after, I heard from people who were having the exact same problems with their brand new 1010s. :/

Razer also use this 'routine' with their mice when people bitch about a new release. And somehow, the mice just keep on having the same problems.

Although, in Razer's case, some of the issues could be worked out to some extend with firmware upgrades.

I find this quite hard to believe. For whatever reason the 1010 was delayed for AGES in becoming readily available in the UK, and when I finally got it in the middle of June, surprise surprise, It had 'broken' clockrates, among other problems. I suppose it COULD be from the same 'early' manufacturing run, but it seems unlikely given the long space of time, US/EU box differences etc. Since Fat uses the 2020 anyway, he was probably just unknowingly repeating whatever lies the Creative reps tell him. That that CreativeRS chap has never shown his face around here again to announce it was fixed or listen to peoples complaints, despite being seen on other forums relatively recently, is quite indicative to me of Creatives utter lack of care towards its customers and partners.

Some people might indeed see this firmware 'scheme' as to be designed to keep the buyers in false hope of getting a decent piece of hardware at some point in the future.

The Habu has the same guts that the CH has.

I patched back to the original usbport.sys before installing the Habu. Then I changed USB-Hz to 1000 hz via the Habu-software -> Skipped. Changed to 500hz -> skipped.

USB Mouserate Checker showed me hz-values which were about ~350 hz. Hum.
So I patched the usbport.sys again, to 1000hz. While my IntelliMouse Optical 1.1 gave me about 700hz, the Habu only did ~350 again. And yeah, it skipped again.

You know what my hope is? That these are 'engineering samples' that found their way into the public. Maybe it is unrealistic by I sure hope. I can't think of any good reason for Razer to have not fixed these issues since most of the guts of the Habu is the Copperhead which was riddled with issues, people had to do all sorts of firmware upgrades.

So you would figure by now they would have fixed all the issues and we would be supplied with a mouse that worked out of the box, but I guess a mouse working out of the box is hoping for a miracle these days....

those guys use the very same pattern each time:
-release with marketing flood
-forums full of complains about how shitty and bugged it is
- 2 or 3 months later razer gives some magical solution that fixes all the troubles. and we can go buy some that actually work fine

from my point of view razer should call the release versions of drivers "beta" so they ll have the "beta testing" excuse for their incredible way of taking customers for easy and inexpensive testers

Does the razer driver has some settings that changes the implementation?

Like with logitech G5 driver: there is OS implementation and SetPoint implementation. The G5 skips with OS implementation at fast moves, but it is perfect and doesn't skip at all with SetPoint implementation.

Or you can't change anything like this at all? Just buttons and DPI?

Are you sure that you have tried the mouse in every way? I'm starting to think about cancelling my order...

So how much speed can the Habu actually take? I've got a Steelpad QcK+ with a sens of 45cm/360. My Diamondback can handle it just fine, no sign of even hitting the speed cap. It's just that my pinky finger gets sore rather quickly with the way I'm grabbing the mouse, and at this point I'm getting fed of it. I'd really welcome the Habu design, it seems awesome, but if the mouse is totally unplayable -- I'd be willing to go for just a tad higher sensitivity, if required -- I wouldn't want to waste my money on it.

Diamondback is LED or infrared, don't know, but it doesn't have a laser engine, while the Habu has. The Habu would be absolute useless for 45 cm/360 �. It might be useable for anything lower than 15 cm/360 �, but I would never bet on that.

I have a Habu and am enjoying it.

Higher DPI = more sensitivity/accuracy. If you try to set sensitivity on a 800 DPI mouse to match that of a 2000 DPI mouse, the result is skipping/jumpy/inaccurate mouse movement. I know this by experience. With the Habu I can set sensitivity to a very high level, and the movement is still smooth and solid and there's no pixel skipping.

From what I have read, Habu has little over 7000 FPS refresh rate with the camera, while IE 3.0 has refresh rate of 9000 FPS. So I knew what to expect. I knew that Habu won't be able to handle as fast movements as the IE 3.0 does, but for me that's not an issue, because I prefer a fairly high sensitivity.

All in all, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Habu for anyone who uses at least a fairly high sensitivity setting and has use for the high accuracy. And for those who wish to move mouse around like crazy - sorry for my phrasing, but some of you are using a sensitivity that seems REALLY low to me - with a low sensitivity setting, go with IE 3.0.

How far do you move the mouse to turn 360 degrees? If it's more than 15cm then 2000dpi is totally useless for you.

I've got 15 go-faster stripes on my mouse. I've tried playing with a mouse that had only 6 go-faster stripes but it was awful. anything less than 10 go-faster stripes is no good for gaming.

as I see the problem, is something hardware and software.
the algorith that calculates the mouse movement is verry hard and a lot of optimizing must be done. they are making optimizations using firmware, but for the hardware part i'm sure there's a limit, that is not going to be better then as it is now.
they would have done just like with copperhead.
firmware update 1, 2 ,3 and after some time everyone would be partially happy, but only the players that are at the limit with sensitivity. anyway, on reflexes it will skip like hell.
so, goodby reflexes.

I just installed the latest Copperhead-firmware (+ drivers) on my Habu. Now I can get 1000 hz (totally stable) and the skipping is less.

Well, the 1000 hz feel sooo fucking smooth ingame. Much smoother than my Intelli Explorer 3.0 @ 700 hz.

The skipping is, as expected, still pretty shitty. I can understand that some noobs state that the Habu/G5/G3/CH don't have any skipping, they just don't move their mouse fast enough.

Well, that's hard to tell you know. I could point a speed gun/camera at my mouse and measure speeds.. well.. give me an idea.

Yeah, what you're seeing is actually CS 1.6. The only game I had here right away, but don't worry, CS usually gives a good view about negative accel... and skipping.

33cm/360� like I said. So 16 cm for a 180 � flick. I always correct the negative accel while playing. At 1000 hz USB-rate the IE 3.0 is "okay" for my settings.

Always the same dewd. I used sens 1.75 with Copperhead (800 DPI) and 3.5 (400 DPI) with the IE 3.0 in that movie. That's were both mice gave me almost the exact same feeling.
= 33 cm/360 � = 16,5 cm for a 180 � flick.

My goodness, I read comments here about people who bought the HABU and use high sens? This mouse was *SUPPOSED* to be developed for people who use LOW SENS, it makes no sense for anyone to come here and proclaim "I USE HIGH SENS WITH MY HABU AND ITS GREAT".

IT was supposed to be different then the Copperhead, but it turns out all Razer did was re-release the Copperhead with a Intellimouse body, screwm em' and their marketing ploy. Microsoft won't be happy about this and that is one company you don't wanna piss off with such un-proffessional behaviour.

This mouse is a failure. Plain and simple.

I am also noticing RAZER is very silent, why don't they show some balls and come out from hidding and confront this dismal failure.

ITs not *IF* you can get your Habu to work, the mouse is supposed to work for YOU, not the other way around. It was set out to be a mouse for low sens players, and it fails.

Back to the lesson of the Viper.

I'm gonna go alittle off topic here. I've been using mx518 for a long time now, and I love the performance part, but not so much the shape of it. What other mice have the same optics? I know about the diamondback, but Im pretty sure thats not the type of mouse I was looking for. I like big sized mice, like the 3.0. I have both the old and the new ms 3.0, but they have awfull negative accel. I use 38cm/360 degrees on qpad.

Well thats obvious. The ms 3.0 is really, really slow. I flick 180's all the time (19cm), instant flick. So if I were to change to 3.0 I would need to drasticly increase my sensitivity to be able to do that.

okay. another quick question.. mx518 dosent really have any advantages compared to mx510 when it comes to speed right? Its just the dpi and dpi switcher and fancy colors? I have both, but I've worn out my mx518 mouse1 button after 10mounths. mx510 feels exactly the same to me.

He would probably be able to lower his sens to 40cm when switching to a MX518.

I feel the neg. acc. clearly as soon as I get near 38cm with MX300/310/510/G1.

With the MX518 and Razer DB, I can do about 55cm.

MX300 is second tier since the G1 offers the same shape with aprox the same amount of negative acceleration as MX518/DB.

The G1 first tier as it's got a good sensor and it's negative acceleration is about the same as MX518/DB

MX510 is second tier because the MX518 has a little bit smoother tracking with the same shape. Both have about the same amount of negative acceleration.

MX310 is the best mouse with it's shape, but must be run at 400DPI and has quite a bit of negative acceleration.

I think he said the MX300 can track at higher speeds. Some theory I have in mind (don't remember it excactly): Because of the MX300's sensor registering a bigger physical image (400 DPI) it is able to track at higher speeds than the MX518. I know you can set MX518 to 400 DPI, but I think that's just downscaling from 1600 DPI.

If you belive I've written otherwise, then go brush up on your reading skills. And for the record I tested both the G1 and MX518 right before posting and with 320degrees in 28cm and both missed aprox 95degrees when moved at very high speed back again. Did this test with MX510 and MX518 the day I got the MX518 as well with similar result.

try g-1000, they sell it for 30$ at most places, i've played with both mice @ 250hz and it looks to me that they track the same way, g-1000 has a pretty identical size and weight, the whole mouse is covered with rubber too, i hate that sticky plastic on the 518 :(

The Explorer 4.0 has an awesome shape, but a fucking crappy sensor.
So I tried pulling in the guts of an Explorer 3.0 in an Explorer 4.0. Even tho they come from the same manufacturer (Microsoft) and share almost the same sensor, it would've taken an enormous amount of time, some technical knowledge and a good range of tools to put the guts from one into the other.

I hope putting in the guts of a Razer Krait into Habu will be easier (my next project when I've got money).

I think we jumped the gun on the Razer hating. In fact, I'm gonna buy the Habu ASAP because I doubt very much that they'd leave it with skipping problems, they'll probably just upgrade the firmware like they did with the CH and everything will be fine.

Someone said that this mouse shouldn't have had this problem because the Copperhead's sensor is tried and tested, but I recall RazerGuy saying something about the Habu sensor being different, like it has a new sensor with some of the CH issues ironed out or whatever.

All in all, I still think this could turn out to be the greatest mouse ever, we just have to be patient.

If you're afraid of which sensor it has and if its hardware related, open the guts of the HABU and see the serial number on the sensor. It should be available in side and it's probably the same sensoras the Copperhead seeing the specs are the same. The "tweaks" Razer made are most likely software related.

I googled around a bit, but there are so many different ways shown how to calculate the DPI need on special resolution and fov, but does someone know one wich is 100% right.
I am forced to play on 1280x1024 soon cause i am going to buy a TFT screen, and trying to see if the 400 dpi on 20cm/360� are still enough or i gotta use more. Yes yes TFT aren`t that good for gaming, but in my eyes it would do fine enough.

There is only one way I can think of, since sens is based on a change of degrees regardless of fov, i think...
360 degrees / 90 degrees = 4
1280 pixels * 4 = 5120 pixels for 360 degrees
5120 / 400 dpi = 12.8 in
12.8 * 2.54 = ~32.5 cm

with 800dpi, the highest sens would be ~16cm/360 not to skip pixels on that res.

an optical mouse with 12bit data path @ 400dpi (mx510 without mouseware ) should have no problems even @ 125 hz, maybe mcfly does his "negative accel tests" using 800dpi, 518 and DB have a pretty low and reachable velocity limit @ 1600dpi same thing applies to g1 and 510 when they are tracking @ 800dpi i guess

It is true that I test my mice @ 800 - or above.
With a mouse like, I have been unable to detect any difference in neg.acc. @ 400, 800, 1200 or 1600dpi.

Btw, MX510/G1 are always 800dpi. You cannot change it with/without drivers, afaik.

MX300, 310, 500 is where you can go from 400 to 800dpi, using drivers..
With these mice, the USB Hz is much more important than DPI when we're talking negative acc.

well, such ambitious gamers as we are make a market-share of maybe 1 to 2 % among gamers. Advertesing a gaming-mouse having super fancy 2000 DPI and ultra accurate laser engine seems to be better than an seriously outdated LED/infrared-sensor which in contrary works on almost EVERY surface and is almost impossible to get it skip. not to mention the comparison of 1600 to 2000 DPI which is beyond to be measureable by humans under normal circumstances.

However, I think the marketing brains @ Logitech & M$ can come up with a catchy headline to make the ignorant masses believe that an old mouse like mx518 is 'the shit!'.

Maybe start the same as the AMD and Intel were forced to do with the whole MHz thing. Higher number isn't necessarily better.

Maybe start calling it 3200+SPI or something. (the S is for speed :p)

Another thing is, its locked at 125 hz (Not available to test any of the other hz) I set it to 1000hz and it still shows 125hz in a second messure program. I'm now using the copperhead software for it and then I can get it to 500hz. Gonna reinstall the Habu software for it anyways and wait until they fix this problem (if they do).

The shape is wonderful though and I like the looks of it but this is bullshit. As far as skipping, I'm not sure of the impact it makes. It jumps a couple of pixle? or it freezes? or could someone tell me please. I got a problem that it freezes, like trying to do some aiming and it kinda acts like I'm lifting it away from the mousepad (it stops basic)

until the new firmware arrives, I suggest to install Copperhead firmware and software (first firmware, then install software - you get both @ www.razersupport.com). This will enable rockstable 1000 hz and also reduced skipping a bit (for me).

First of you get conflicting information on whether to plug the USB cable in first or not, manual says yes, cable says no! Next you get told to use new software from a site that isnt there ! when you do find the download place it tells you to use both the software and firmware... ok. I tried a few times to get this to work but all it told me was it had failed and i needed to reboot, i then tried to set up manualy with the help of information from other people that had spent ages trying to get a mouse !!! to work. All this did, and i followed it to the letter was render all my usb devices either completly not working or limited function. I'm talking my camera, printer, speakers, keyboard, mobile software... thank you razor for your complete and utter incompetance, i shall be sending this mouse back, getting a refund, and watching out that anything else i buy hasn't got the razor logo within 10 miles of it.

I've ordered a Habu, since my DB stopped working about 1 week ago. (The DB now keeps losing its connection to PC so it needs to redetect, and sometimes it doesn't even redetect as a mouse device)

Anyway, I hope that the Habu isn't too much of a disappointment, i'm already used to drivers that don't work from the DB but if the performance is really as bad as you guys say i'll be returning my Habu pretty fast.
But here's my question, in the case that i actually decide to return my Habu(seems likely) which mouse should i go for?
The ones i'm considering are: Razer DB, MX518, MS 3.0.

The 518 is the best allround sensor to get, but let's not forget about the shape, nor what the mouse should be used for.

If you are a highsens gamer the Habu isn't bad, considering you will rarely hit its max speed.

After all don't you wouldn't try to drive off road with a city car.

But if you're a low sens gamer, then i wouldn't recommend the Habu ;-)

thank you dude, 289 subliminal posts to find out if the HABU sucks total nut or only for a specific group. I use an mx1000 with no software and Im just tired of using a basic optical while the lump's recharging cuz Im too fat to remember to charge when I go to bed at least every 14 days plus it likes to be real shitty every once and again requiring "resets" so I thought I'd go back to a cord. I'm also not a "twitch" shooter which means I aint gonna be spinning around and shit. Hell i even measured my speed in oblivion and BF2 and its around 12-16cm/360. I usually make smooth sweeping movements so I would assume any mouse I want will work, right?

Yall some picky peeps, I'll give ya that but very well informed. Just maybe every thirty posts someone should post something that says "only applies to low sens, high sens non-twitchy bitchy's need not be concerned"

this mouse sucks indeed. Have bought it and tried to install it a dozens of times. The UPDATED software doesn't recognize it. No support what so ever at the site of Razer or MS. This one is going straight into the bin!

I'm not all lost if someone can give me a tip to make it work in the end.

I tested the habu, and it is excelent, if you dont move the mouse too fast. just like all razors mice, it fails to work, if you are a gamer with fast mouse movements. If you move the mouse too fast, it fails to move 'as expected' - if you move the mouse very fast, then it looks like you move it very very slow.
