All these sorts of questions/tests have one thing in common, they try to trick you into thinking it's something deep and complicated when it's almost always easy and so obvious you overlook it.

It's a satisfying asnwer, but it's not the only one IMO. if you fed that question a computer it could never give that answer because it would not associate things like tennis balls with the most common colour.

Sorry if i after this reply brought in the fact that a person with 200+ IQ answered this question in this way with not so much as a comment on that it was "anal" or "stupid". Even more in displace for your opinion is the fact that, out of all the questions she gets, she chose to officially answer this one.

This riddle isn't that clear cut, there are arguments for seemingly each item. The problem lies in trying to get too technical. The 3 basic properties of each of these items is shape, colour and type (fruit or non-fruit).

The lemon is the only item that shares attributes with the 3 other items in terms of the 3 basic attributes.

Even though your trying to get technical (I've never seen a pro tennis match with anything other than a (greenish) yellow ball), by mentioning that tennis balls come in other colours, your actually proving that it is even more unique, but does that make it more unique than the orange or the banana? I suppose somebody could always genetically engineer purple lemons...

Now, a good argument would be to argue the lemons uniqueness, which would then mean that there is no right answer.
