Their players are probably moving back to BW in anticipation of BroodWar HD. I wouldn't blame them.

supposedly blizzard is thinking about making a hd remaster of brood war. basically, hd sprites, hd interface, hd textures.

what will change if the hd is released? basically everything. whole game can change even if they only implement higher resolutions. also, it's been good 10 years (or more) since blizzard didn't fuck it up with it's games so there's not much room for optimism. they'll probably mess with pathing, unit selection, new bnet, etc etc.. basically fuck the game completely.

you can check out this mod and see for yourself how just having higher resolution fucks shit up.

I'd merely expect a resolution scaling + modern OS compatibilty fix.

Working with the BW engine is a pure nightmare, as it was "just 2 months from release" for 2 years. That meant Quick&Dirty fixes and hacks all over the place.
Increasing resolution properly might be nearly impossible as so many things are hardcoded in the engine. Like the formation keeping move or breaking formation, with the X pixel distance.

I wouldn't keep my hopes really high, as Korea is high on Overwatch right now, and even though Brood War was a true king once, the newer, "more accessible" (simple as fuck, mobile) titles took over.

Are they all going back to BW then? Will we see the retuirn of Starleague etc?

no idea yet. hopefully they do return. and we already have starleague returned with bigger prize pools than any of bw ones afaik.
