i like the eggbots a lot. GFX seems fine aswell, and the weapons models look cool enough to me :)

Really hate that he changed it from the pretty nice idea of robots that you can brand and stuff into these eggbot things, I genuinely think it's going to detract from it.

Eggbots make so much sense for a compatitive afps, perhaps they look comical but keeping a standard model size seems very logical to me

If anyone has seen the video, does it explain what the grapple will be like? Will be it be like the Q2 grapple and used in game or is it more of a fun extra?

He doesn't really go in-depth about the grapple, he just showcases it a little bit. He's mentioned that it will be a pickup item, and that players cannot spawn with it. I imagine it'll just become a lil extra for CTF maps. Anyways, it looks quite a lot like ql grapple, you go straight to the target rather than swinging to it. I kinda prefer quake 1's/xonotic's grapple.

what a spamfest, hooks are the worst. i dont get why some people want that in a game. it removes all skill required to move around. i guess its okay if its a powerup which you can use once though.

Removes all skill? It takes skill to be fast, even with hook. You and the rest of these +'ing mooks seem to believe it removes dynamic from the game when it in fact adds more dynamic. Offhand hook was the best in q2, imo.

quake has the most amazing movement system out there and you want to spray hooks everywhere and fly through the world with infinite acceleration. i can imagine thats fun for two games but then it gets boring. And dont tell me it adds to the game, it removes all need to use the movement system in place.

Also googled "offhand hook quake 2" to see what it is and found https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TicPzcy-zOw which looks almost as messy as the video above.

Funny how CS players criticize Quake for the same, because both you and them fail to realize speed can add complexity.

i don't see how the hook removes anything from the movment system. Its basicly on top of the basic quake movment system and is its own beast to master. If you talking that it takes way more skill to get someplace in a map without the hook you might be correct BUT believe it or not there are very hard moves and skills around that hook movment too which ofc aren't possible without the hook.

I don't really see where the butthurt is coming from. People play instagib and think it is fun, why not let people play with a hook. Its a great addition to certain gametypes.

I agree, although they implemented it well in Overwatch for the sniper character. I think that's where it can work, in a class-based game. Its too much crazy to be available for everyone, might as well all play excessive mode with 2000 ups base movement :D

Depends on map size as well.

In Q2 maps were huge and tall, so it worked well. In Q1, CPMA and whatnot the hook was an addition to already existing mod, using the small and short maps meant to be played strafing and rocket jumping.

Coach mode seems very interesting. I thought long time ago about a game which is FPS + RTS combo. You've got team of FPS players and one guy with RTS perspective of the map. He's helping players by giving orders where to go and other stuff like sending supplies or steering vehicles or dropships. He could be even controlling some simple bot units supporting his team. I tell you this is a future of esport! Starcraft and Quake as one awesome game.

Natural Selection 1/2 and Nuclear Dawn share that idea. Good games in their own right but all lacked funding and struggled to find a playerbase.

NS2 never had a first person spectator thing which seriously killed any initial hype it had. you would just be seeing a map with monkey jumpin around on humans trying to shoot them. It was really hard from that point of view and I think at the core of it, the game has to be fun to watch. If it isn't, no1 gibs a fuq

I've played natural selection for years, but i dont see that type of game working for an arena fps. i think a game mode like science and industry where you fight over resources and vote on upgrades or buy them yourselves would be better.
