Hi,
I have an Alienware mx14 with a broken monitor (unusable).

In order to keep using it, I would like to connect my Samsung SyncMaster 2233RZ as an external monitor (duplicating monitors, so it seems like the primary one).
This however, does not work.

It will work with a different monitor (old CRT screen) and my TV via the HDMI port.

I have tried to install the drivers from samsungs website and the latest drivers for my video card.

When I connect the CRT, the computer makes that "ding ding" sound (the windows sound telling you, something is plugged into the computer). When I connect the Samsung monitor, there's no sound.

However the samsung writes "no connection" when it's unplugged, but just goes black when it's plugged into the computer.

Information:
* Laptop works with old CRT screen
* Samsyng 2233RZ works with different computer
* Laptop won't work with Samsung 2233RZ
* (Re)installed latest drivers.
* Clicking "register" doesn't do anything with the Samsung monitor connected. Works fine with the CRT connected.
* Windows 7

What is my next step here?

I am afraid of reformating, as I cannot use the primary screen on the laptop what so ever, so I am dependent on at least one working external monitor, and I'm not sure if it will be recognized with a format (because there will be no drivers?).
