heavy metal fakk 2 was actually a great game, had an interesting weapon system etc.

Heavy Metal FAKK 2 used Q3 engine and was quite good. American McGee's Alice is another game of that era that was using Q3 engine and was also very unic. Here is a list of suggestions you might wanna try, only good games ofc :

Yes iirc Prey was annouced before Duke3D, it took more than 10 years or something, but it was 3DRealms you know what i mean. The game is realy good, even tho levels are a bit too small and the game is quite short. This game is realy unic, it uses some unic mechanics and weapons, also overall design is good.

yeah, prey has been one of my "goto" games when I'm feeling all single player fps-y
