I don't know about this model but I have the 24' 120hz from Acer and it makes a bzzzzzzzz sound depending on how bright/dark the screen is and it is highly annoying.

Does this bzzzzz-sound or humming is more intense if you set the brightness more to 50 and if you choose 0 or 100 it is less? Personally I don't care about those things or even picture quality, because I just wanna use it for quake, for videos etc I have a 2nd lcd..
What is your experience with reaction time compared to lcd's from other brandings?

I didn't try to change the brightness on the screen itself, I just noticed that bzzz sound going more intense when browsing a black webpage for exemple.

The input lag is quite bad in comparison to the LG. In fact, I was using the LG for months before trying out the Acer and I went back to the LG because I couldn't lock as well as on the LG with the shaft due to a very noticeable added delay.

That being said, my experience with that brand and that model in particular would advise you to avoid it.

Dont either buy from Philips; in case your monitor becomes faulty you will receive a "brand new one" used from somebody else in Europe.

well I got laptop from acer and really cant complain

Just for your info, now Im involved in heavy issues on an Acer 5745g which started to fail, was sent to the SAT, and came back with marks on the screen, broken marquee and a faulty gt420 m which refuses to be installed in any known OS (i didnt buy the computer btw, never would have at MediaMarkt)

Now both MediaMarkt and Acer refuses to follow laws in my country and denie changing or refunding it.

I also worked for Philips support, you cant imagine how chaotic and erratic is that service; i not going to buy any Philips screen ever.

Also notice all Philips computer panels were made by AOC back in 2010 so if you ever think about buying Philips remember that please.

Acer GD245hq which I have also makes buzzing noise but just put headphones or earpiece on and you wont hear a thing. :P

Only problem is screen goes half black sometimes if you keep using on off switch at front. Then you need to unplug power cord and replug it again.

Something like buzzing noise wouldnt bother me much, because I will use it just to play and have all time music+gamesound with headphones on while playing.

But after reading those comments by winz and some more reviews about response time AFTER ordering it yesterday, I sadly have to change my order tomorrow. I hope the shop owner will accept it, otherwise I will have to punch him in the face :D

But for the future I will know from now on, its not good choice to decide to buy new pc+lcd and order it within a hour, without research :]

Got the the benq xl2420T now, works fine, but I have a question considering the settings. Any advantage in quake using its native resolution rather than 640*480 in terms of smooth running?

Native resolution will offer you best image quality and will make your monitor last longer.

Native resolution is the resolution at which the monitor doesn't need to do any maths to output, so probably the output lag will be a little bit higher if you don't use it (but higher what? <1ms per frame? irdk).

I guess this is up to you and your preferences ,like using one .cfg or another, but notice some long distance rails and pixel rails will be harder on such a low resolution.

This is own preference. I play native resolution for the quality of the image and max smoothness. But there is nothing wrong with staying on your 4:3 resolution if this is what makes you feel good :)

The max smoothness factor was what I was referring too, but if a quake2(aka sucky sucky gfx) legend plays with "modern" settings I should atleast give it a try, I guess :)

I always felt like gfx downgraded as possible should give most smoothness, but probably I was wrong, I will test it.

edit: tried native resolution for quake, I am too old for those small hd enemymodels I guess, will stick to 640*480 :)

an alternative is to create a custom 4:3 resolution equivalent to the max height of your native resolution.

i.e, for 1920x1080 monitor, make a 1440x1080 res

Do you use the monitor emulation on your benq? It has these settings where you can make it work like a 17" or 19" 4:3 screen. I just wonder if it has any purpose at all for someone.

And 1080p@120hz is nice with 125fps. Try zoom :)

You mean the setting, where you cut out the edges to make it fit 4:3? No, I like the big screen, but even you probably can't do some pixelrails like with higher resolution, I like the "rough oldschool" looks a 640*480 resolution stretched to fullscreen offers..

And I am using 120fps@120hz 640*480 :)
