I find it a necessity to use drawgun 2 and a high fov for rockets and plasma. I also use cg_gunx to make it longer to help my rocket aim. all my other weapons have no drawgun.

for me, drawgun 0 feels like somethings missing on my screen since ive been playing with drawgun 1 for years now. not saying that i couldnt just as easily replace the drawgun 1 with the icons and get used to playing with drawgun 0 if i had too, but because drawgun 1 has been the default setting and part of my q3/QL configuration for so long, its just what i've become accustomed to over the years. so it all boils down to what the person is comfortable with and how their hud/setup is.

it's not a "blind spot", its smack in the middle...
oh wait, it IS a BLINDING spot, because it BLINDS you from what is behind it, like enemies one level below and shit you can be AWARE of. So yeah, "awareness" or whatever other way you can describe the advantage of FOV applies exactly the same way to drawgun.

silly? is evolution silly? we have evolved to specifically spot and react to moving objects on the screen. the gun is either not moving, in which case it is TOTALLY useless, or is moving, in which case it is making you react slower.

From my experience, and I've been messing with my config for few years changing something every now and then, my aim mostly depends on:
-crosshair shape/type
-crosshair blink 0/1
-drawgun 0/2
-gun_xyz

..and obvioulsy huge part has gfx and mouse settings you're using. Messing with those setting always gives me different results, maybe it's a placebo thing, but at least by changing few things here and there I don't get bored by the game itself.

Been playing with drawgun 2 for two years or so, but now I just use it for RL, somehow I think I aim better with it. But yeah, it's more fun to play with drawgun 1/2 overall :}

drawgun 2 obviously because of thinshaft settings. drawgun 2 only for rocket / plasma / shotgun if it helps you aim, really. other than that, id not enable it.

fyi: drawgun 0 all the way (except shaft due to thinshaft effect but we covered that).

I use drawgun 2, fov 90, and fix the guns positions. Some in the center, some on the default.

I tried to play without the gun, but eventually, once every x matches I would fuck up a clutch situation because I had no ammo, tried to switch, did not realized it did not switch, and end up getting into troubles.

The weapon bar on the side is no way as obvious than the gun. About the gun wasting screen space, I never felt it was a problem. I wonder if those saying otherwise really had in game problems, or are just playing smart with the argumentation.

Just put the weapon bar in the middle? You're never going to "notice" blocked screen space, but there's a chance of it blocking view of enemy/item below you. It's not going to make a huge difference but of course there's some difference.

IMO decision to drawgun 0 or 2 (1 isn't even counted cause it's shit) should base on personal preferences only.

Some time ago I was playing on 'cg_drawgun 2' for LG only, then I switched to drawgun 2 for every gun. I was playing like this for a while but then I decided to turn off drawgun on LG (with cg_lightningstyle 5 - biggest lightning possible) and I'm playing on this set for something like 2 years now - drawgun 2 on every gun except LG.

Also I think 'drawgun 0' would have been good not only for LG but for RG too. I'm just used now to RG drawgun 2 and I won't change it only because of that.

I used to play with 0 because of the annoying bobbing, until I found out about drawgun 2. Since then I hava a centered weapon. Just because it looks cool and adds atmosphere. Didn't affect my gameplay at all.

in Quake4 iFT i was used to have drawgun 0 and just a dot as crosshair, the screen looks quite clearer without the big gun.
it is just a confirm what weapon u have right now, if u know it for sure ... then u can try drawgun 0

The best is whatever you feel comfortable.

For me, it's 1 with nobob, because based on some unidentified reason, I strafe a bit better like that (and the feeling of fragging is cooler - and I love to see the barrel of the RL :) ).

It would be nice, if you could set opacity for it like in QW though.
