I actually ordered this monitor recently and it arrived yesterday. Hooked it up as a TV to test for dead pixels and didn't find any. I'd a more detailed account of my impressions, but I don't really have another 120hz monitor to compare to and don't have a video card to drive it at 120hz yet. But online reviews all agree the image quality is quite high and that there is little ghosting. As for input lag, opinions are that it ranges from imperceptible to barely noticeable.

Cool. Where did you find it for cheaper? Only reason I'll probably get it from Newegg is because I'm already ordering about $1300 worth of shit from them in a couple of weeks here.

They were going for $280 with free shipping at TigerDirect when I got them. I just checked now and couldn't find them at the price I got it, so I guess it must've been a holiday sale thing.

As a possible alternative, the Samsung S23A750D is on sale for $300 at Amazon.com and other places right now. Most reviews of that monitor have been positive, but it differs from the Planar in that it has a glossy instead of matte coating, no height adjustable stand, and no DVI port (HDMI and DisplayPort only, and only DisplayPort will support 120hz)

Meh. I'd have to buy a new video card (or at least an adapter, but I'm guessing that wouldn't work). Plus I'm more than willing to pay a shitload extra for a matte screen and a good stand. That Samsung looks pretty, but I'd probably hate it after a week.

I have three other monitors right now that are not height adjustable and don't even have VESA mounts, and its the most frustrating thing trying to get them into a comfortable position.

Ordered from Newegg (along with a new build for someone else) for $330. Should be here in a few days. :)

$280, plus shipping (maybe Canada is different). I was already ordering $1500 in parts from Newegg, so it isn't that much different in the long run. Oh well. I like Newegg -- their customer service has hooked me up on a few occasions.

Finally got it today, been playing with it for a couple of hours. I was really nervous that it wasn't going to be a big deal and I had wasted 300 bucks, but honestly I'm blown away by the difference an extra 60hz makes. After playing CPM pickups at 125hz for a couple of hours, I went back to 60 again just to see, and it felt like playing in mud. The choppiness and bullshit is crazy noticeable once you get used to the higher refresh rate. I can't believe I played games like that for all these years without it bothering me.

Quality-wise, everything looks fine to me out of the box. No dead/stuck pixels that I can see. Colors are ok - I just took it out of the box, hooked it up, set 120hz in the drivers and in Q3/QL, and started playing. I'll probably mess with the configuration options tomorrow a bit, but honestly I'm not a big monitor guy so I don't really know what I'm doing. As long as it sort of matches my other monitor and doesn't look obviously fucked up I'm happy with it. All of the artsy graphic-design type people are probably pickier than that but w/e, I'm playing games.

My LG hasn't really improved that much, maybe 5% or so in wide-open 1v1 fights. Rails feel awesome though. Hitting all of those sneaky wait-rails through tight angles on aero feels almost easy now. I didn't really see the percentage rise (I usually hit 30-50% in duels), but I think that was mostly because it felt so much better that I was taking every rail shot I could think of.

The biggest thing is that my eyes don't hurt at the end of the day, which was a problem before. I work at a computer 8+ hours a day before I even get home, and I definitely feel much less eyestrain than I did before. I guess time will tell if that's a placebo effect or if it's really that significant of a difference.

Oh, and the stand is fucking amazing. Sturdiest monitor I have ever seen or used. This thing weighs 25, maybe 30lbs easily. I play with my keyboard sitting literally on the base of the stand and under the screen a little bit and it does not move at all when I play/type like my old ones have. Plus it has VESA mounts, so I will probably wall-mount it on an articulating arm when I move to a new place in the spring. The only thing I hate is that the location of the DVI port is full retard. Dual-link DVI cables are super thick and stiff, and it comes straight down from the monitor, on the left side, right up against the back of the display. So if you sit with your keyboard up under the side of the monitor (maybe I'm the only person who does that, idk), it gets in the way. I'm going to try and find a DVI cable with a right angle at one end - otherwise I'll have to rig up something ugly.

I haven't seen one in person so I really couldn't say. To be honest, all of the "1337-gamer-zomg" marketing behind it makes me nervous since these things tend to go badly (for example, 95% of Razer's product line). It also costs quite a bit more. Maybe it's worth it, I dunno. Like I said, I've never seen or used one in person and I'm not a big monitor guy (this is my first 120hz). Just judging by a quick look, it seems like you're paying an extra $100 for a bunch of gimicks like a goofy remote, "black eQualizer", and shit like, "Download special gaming presets used by HeatoN and SpawN so you can see what the pros see."

I don't want a monitor designed by gamers, I want one designed by people who design monitors. Planar is a well-known name in the realm of higher end commercial displays (professional video editors, etc), so ultimately I trust their product a little based on that name.

CS is such a slow game too that I don't see how that endorsement is a big deal.

I've been looking into monitors, and I've seen a lot of issues and complaints. I can't recall specifics, but if you look up reviews and read what people say on forums, there's issues. Basically after spending a day researching, I decided to not even consider it. There's better 120hz monitors for much less of a price. I heard the Acer is comparable to the Planar, and a lot of people still can't find a better 120hz monitor than their 2233RZ.

That reminds me actually, the Planar monitor uses the same panel as the 2233RZ. It just has a nicer (imo at least) stand and uses different electronics. Probably the closest you can get to a 2233RZ in NA at the moment, without paying out the ass.
