I just received the Fatal1ty 1010 in the mail today (I preordered it from the Creative site with next day shipping). My initial reaction was good because I liked the shape. However, this mouse has a fatal flaw with the optics. I used the program that checks your mouse hertz and this thing can't even hold 125hz steady. Yes, that's right. 125. Same story with setting it to 250hz and 500hz I'm afraid. I decided to try it out in game anyway and lo and behold, it skips like a motherfucker. Installing the drivers did nothing to help this problem. The bottom line is good shape, HORRIBLE optics. I do not know why this mouse was allowed to be released in the shape that it's in. If you are a serious gamer, DO NOT purchase this mouse. I sincerely hope that these problems will be fixed with the release of the upcoming 2020 because I really like the shape. Until then, both Creative and Fatal1ty can eat shit.

Yeah that's exactly right. No matter what mouse rate you set it to, the rate keeps cutting itself in half for some reason resulting in major skipping and choppiness. Perhaps this is the reason for the 2020 coming out so soon, because the 1010 never functioned properly? I really hope the 2020 turns out okay because the shape is great. Stupid Creative...

Which I assume is the review you were talking about. Funny thing is, one of the pictures shows the optical sensor having 'a3080' above it, which is an Agilent sensor, in fact the same one used in the MX518, and a varient of that used in the Diamondback. It would be nice to think that this meant it was possibly just the drivers causing the low performance, but to be honest I think this has been a complete fuck up by Creative.

It seems like they have the same problem as the recent MS mice. I would imagine hz isn't dependant on the sensor but rather the USB stuff/the USB port itself.

#77 There's no button on the right side of the mouse. I think you are referring to the button on the TOP of the mouse but on the right side. It actually looks like it is part of the mouse chassis...but is a button. It sits right next to the middle (or what looks like it would be the right mouse button). Hope that isn't too confusing. I have a pic here that illustrates what I think you need clarification on...

problem : serious gamer -> cpl ; cpl -> doesnt allow these tweaks that bust you up to 1123123 hz ... as far as i know...

I know the CPL doesn't allow that but new mice like the G5 and Copperhead run at 500hz automatically, no tweaking required.
The Fatal1ty mouse still skips at the default 125hz. That was the point I was trying to make. It's optics are flawed and it is apparent to me that it doesn't use the Agilent sensor that the MX518 and Diamondback did. Most people were expecting the 1010 to use the same sensor, unfortunately this is not the case.

I made an application to meet their requirements some time ago. And kinda been waiting for reply about approval.
Didn't bother too much about it all, since they were busy with WT at that time.

But seeing that it's more needed than ever now, I sent an updated version to them and waiting for approval again.
So if they'll give it a green light, I'll upload it somewhere and make a post here. The key purpose; let you change samplerate in realtime (no reboot).

When I receive mine i'll comment on how it performs, if it uses the same sensor as the mx518 and the diamondback then it seems like it would be an issue with the mouse software. I'll see what rate it reports with and without the Creative software.

Here is a crazy, crazy idea...

Instead of the normal quake-type sounds (grunts, explosions, etc), use musical notes. So when you jump, it plays a note. And when you shoot, it plays a note. When the game is actually played, the combination of notes creates music. The better the game is played, the better the music is.

Bestest idea ever. I mean that would obviously make the most awesome of music and draw in your fiddycent youth into the world of e-sports.

I find it hard to believe the Fatal1ty mouse would skip. I thought Fatal1ty himself would have extensively tested it.

Doesn't it seem like Creative produced a bunch of 1010 mice and then realized that they were defective when it was too late? So they decide to come out with a newer, more expensive model (right around the same time coincidentally) and try to pass off the flawed 1010 as a more "basic" type. Something seems fishy to me because if Fat had any input on the mouse (which he most certainly did) then he would've noticed the flawed sensor. I think Creative is trying to screw over the consumers here.

Btw, it has nothing to do with drivers. The problem exists regardless if you have drivers installed or not. I tried the mouse for a long time on 2 different computers with and without drivers, different polling rates, etc. One other thing I should mention is that the cord on the 1010 is really short. This could be a problem for a lot of people if it's the same length on the 2020, although I doubt it will be.

I shipped the mouse back to Creative and now I'm waiting for the new model to be available for purchase. Despite the bullshit they are trying to pull, I really do like the shape of the mouse.

Also I talked to cK-nomadic who had a chance to try out the 2020 at CES and he said it performed flawlessly and he didn't notice anything wrong. So for those of you above who are still buying the 1010, it's just going to be a waste of money/time on your part.

This will damage the Fatal1ty brand name, unless the 1010 is fixed in a newer revision I imagine Fatality will be pretty darn pissed off at Creative.

Do not listen to all these Fatal1ty flamers, I received this mouse a few minutes ago, loaded up Quake 4 and it does not skip what so ever, feels absolutely great in my hand also. I don't know why people feel the need to lie about a product.

I was not lying whatsoever, heh. Maybe they sent me a defective one? I wasn't trying to flame anyone, just sharing my personal experience with the mouse. I was one of the first to receive the mouse so there is a chance that they sent me a messed up one. I still find what you're saying hard to believe though, can you post some pictures of the mouserate please?

I found the source of the problem, it's the software that creative includes with the mouse, when I install that, the mouse doesn't report some movements and starts skipping. Basically they need to release a software update because the software included with the mouse really screws it up. I have my usb rate set to 500Hz and this mouse gets only 375Hz average on that setting.

Edit: I get a solid 125Hz, I haven't tried the 250Hz setting but I should get that no problem being how I got 375Hz on the 500Hz setting.

Does it work at full DPI etc. with no drivers?

I disagree, I had the problem using standard XP drivers. But like I said I may have got a defective one. What OS are you running?

With the mouse that I had, you had to install the drivers to change the DPI otherwise it would remain at 800.

i just got my 1010 and it doesn't skip. the rate program shows i average about 109hz. the issue seems to happe when you change your mouse movement direction. if i keep my mouse moving in long single directions it stays at 125hz, but if i do erratic movements or short back and forth lines then about every 5th report shows 62hz.

and yes, the dpi works without drivers. i havent, and probably wont, install the creative drivers (unless they release some sort of fix or improvement).

Happy with it? Build quality? (Does it feel solid in the hand, etc?) How do the buttons and mouse wheel feel?

i'm happy with it so far. the built qualtiy is pretty good. if you have the heaviest weight in, there is a tiny jiggle inside the mouse, similar to the feeling you get when you use a ball mouse. the two main buttons feel really nice. the third button, on the far right, is attached to the body of the mouse in the same way that the buttons are on the mx518. i haven't decided if this is much of a problem, but it causes the third button to feel a little different than the two main ones. this wasn't really nessecary when designing the mouse.


the mouse wheel scolls very nicely. the wheel button is a bit stiff. the DPI changing button is very very stiff which makes it almost impossible to switch your DPI on accident.

the shape is very similar to the wingman. there is less of a 'butt' to the mouse, so the wedge shape comes to a blunt end, instead of the wingman triangle end. at first this caused me to put the mouse deeper in my palm and i found my fingers hanging over the top of it.

the wingman shape fills my hand a bit more, while the fatality mouse is more of a finger mouse. the 1010 slopes down towards the back, so i find myself holding the mouse with my fingers and unable to rest my palm on the butt of the mouse. the back of the mouse is very slick plastic, the two main buttons are rough plastic, and the sides are rubber. the thumb button placement is perfect for users who do not plan on actully using it. the wingman is abig wider, thinner, and blockier. the 1010 has a more natural feel, yet still maintaining the 'wedge' like shape.

Guys can we have a detailed review of the shape of that mouse? How is it compared to the shape of the Wingman? Is it bigger, smaller, how's the grip on the mouse?

The fact that it keeps dropping in hertz made the mouse unplayable for me. It feels pretty choppy imo.

it is worth noting that your drops in hz are far more frequent than aph's (if you experience the same sort of hz dropping that occurred in the korean site's review).

no mouse gets 125hz solid all the time. however, most of the non-specialty ones will get 125hz when moving in big circular movements.

My name is Ryan Schlieper and I'm the Product Manager for the Fatal1ty input device lineup here at Creative.

Just wanted to get down here in the trenches to clarify some of the things that people have been seeing.

First off...I'd like to thank all of you who went out and bought the 1010. We've been in development for over a year and a half bringing the concept to reality. The main thing about the 1010 (and all the other Fatal1ty products to come) is that we want to a true gamers solution so ALL the feedback that I'm seeing on this post, both the good and the bad (all of it is GOOD feedback to have though) is being followed by me and my team here. By "true gamers" I mean that we're looking to advance the device lineup by more than just cramming new technology into an old chassis and claim ourselves as a "gaming" company. That in my mind is just pure marketing spin and really isn't taking the gamer market seriously at all. That's the other reason why I'm here posting...I want to hear the feedback and work within the community to hammer out any issues we see and make this lineup bulletproof when it comes to performance.

All that being said! Let's get into the nitty gritty details!

First off in regards to the optical sensor used in the 1010. We're using the top of the line Agilent 3080i optical sensor. This is the best you can get from Agilent on the OPTICAL side of things...and is used in other high-end gaming mice...some of which are mentioned in this post.

In reference to the polling rates. I'm investigating right now further the issues that are being commented on here. I think there might be some older firmware versions of the mouse out there that managed to get out into the public. I'm investigating this internally here...if the folks that are seeing the issue could send me a PM with their serial number that would help me out BIGTIME! I could also try and work a solution for those folks if that is indeed the case (with the older firmware).

The Fatal1ty team and Creative are fully committed to this product lineup. Even now we're hammering away on testing and ADDITIONAL testing of the 2020 mouse (as well as revision changes for the 1010) since we've been made aware of the polling issue. I talk to Fatal1ty and his team on pretty much a daily basis here with all types of feedback from them...so it is being tested HARDCORE.

We're releasing a driver revision very soon on our website that will address some of the issues that have been seen with the driver currently. I'll pop up a full list of changes here once my QA team gets back to me on what is passing the QA process here.

On a sidenote we were only using the 1010 at CES...so all the shootout challengers were using the 1010 during the shootouts.

Moving forward. The 2020 is using the top of the line Agilent laser based sensor as well and we'll be supporting 1000hz polling (Hi-Speed USB 2.0) out of the box as well as supporting a native 2400cpi resolution.

I'll be checking back here for any more info people pop up and to try and answer any questions you all might have.

Again big thanks to all of you for taking the time to post and especially the folks that bought the 1010 =). This is just the very beginning of some seriously kick ass products that we're going to drop on the market. We're not going to stop until this lineup is perfect and working perfect for you all..the core of who this lineup is designed for.

One of the questions and concerns I know alot of people have is does it 'require' drivers to use? Many competitive and traveling gamers prefer to not have to install/uninstall mouse drivers everywhere they go and every machine they compete on. Are we able to get the same performance out of the box as if we could with drivers installed? By performance I mean the aforementioned 'polling rates' as well as 'CPI' selection?

i'm using my 1010 without drivers. all the buttons work fine in q4, the dpi switch works, and i am running it at 500hz.

Sounds good. I guess I was unlucky enough to receive a 1010 with older firmware. I've since returned it but am planning to order a replacement. I don't know if I should risk getting another faulty 1010 or just wait for the 2020 though. Could you give us a specific release date for the 2020?

This is IMO more important feature than the DPI switch. Although this is great am still sceptical that it wont have constant rate, problem that had Razer with their Copperhead. Playing it safe with 500hz (which is enough) might be a better idea.

will the sensor in the 2020 will it be the same that's in logitech G5 and razer copperhead (ADNS-6010)? If yes, will it still be running at around 7100scans/second? If no, will it be a 30x30 sensor and what will the number of scans/second be?

Both logitech and razer have had problems with their laser mice on pads like steelpad 4D, x-ray thunderpad 8 (rough side) and alot of other rough plastic pads. Are you going test that the 2020 works properly on those surfaces before you release it?

the fifth button is on the far right side on the top of the mouse. the button is 'attached' to the body of the mouse, like how the mx518 is.

A fast solution for the hertz is to get a mouse hertz program and make the mouse over 300 it seems. Best at 500. This program called usb mrs or something. After I did that, unitl the new drivers are out, everything worked great. great design and great feel. The weight system is really nice cuz ittakes no time. I didnt like my G5's weight thing that took forever and didnt really seem to have a point having soo many little weights. just my thoughts

Razer were clever enough to build in flashable firmware.

Logitech did not do this with their G5/7 - and look what they have been forced to: Re-releasing the G5 with a "1.1 firmware" with new, fancy colours etc. Wonder how many versions of the G5 they will have to spit out just to get them working on just a handful of mouse mats.

Yeah leethal is correct. The G5 had built in flashable firmware all along but they just never stated it as a major feature. I think the Logitech firmware is actually easier to flash than Razer's which is kinda funny since Razer states it as a major feature of the Copperhead.

i love the shape like most ppl but i think mine may also be one of the defective mouses, my old gateway mouse wich is 3 years old felt nicer wen playing (not shape but like optics wise) but that mouse broke or somthing and doesnt register all my movements so thats why i got the fat 1010 but was already planning on getting it b4 that. i wana thank u ryan if i didnt already, im so glad to see ppl actualy looking for comments from the avrage person and i like to see that creative has highered ppl like ryan to collect data on these issues from us. iv never seen a company go this far for customer satisfaction... most companys just do what ever they want and push every1 else away. thank you ryan and creative :D

Grr! :) that's the 5th mouse button picture I keep seeing it on but can't see it on the pictures of the real thing. Seeing where the configuration screen points to it makes me afraid that I'm gonna be holding it exactly on that button if I compare it to how I'm holding my wingman now.

The mouse is designed so that your "pinky" is located on the very bottom of the right hand side touching the mouse pad (So you can tell how far you moved or something :/). There is meant to be one way to hold the mouse and from what Aph said it seems the button is higher up on the right hand side and hard to press on purpose.

For the folks asking. I'm investigating what the possible issue can be! The serials will help me figure it out because I can compare my stock that's shipped and find out what firmware is loaded in similar mice.

I know that we just sent Fatal1ty and his team more units to test with from the stock that is shipping and everything is checking out fine with those. So I'm thinking this might be a very limited number of units.

On the driver side of things. We've already got a new revision of the driver in internal testing. This should address some of the issues people are seeing with some configurations. Of course the intent of the driver is to MAXIMIZE performance and in some instances here it's been slowing things down. I'll update with a release date as soon as my QA team gives me the go ahead!

Just checking if there is an estimated time until Creative releases a firmware update for the mice with the polling issue, or should these people return their mice to Creative as soon as possible?

i've been playing with the mouse for a few days and i don't think the polling issue is much of a problem. i don't notice anything wrong in game. the rate only dips if you change the speed or direction of your mouse.

I think this is a key question that needs to be understood (I don't!). A lot of mice drop when doing turns, yet intuitively I'd assume this is when you want maximum polling rate (or constant)?

So is there a reason why it drops for most mice, and is that the problem? (i.e responsiveness issues may still be there even with same polling rate as other mice that don't feel as bad).

Our internal (and some external tests) go along with what you are saying as well. This mouse was extensively tested before it went into production. However we want to make sure that we're maximized on performance for everyone that loves to look at the numbers. Thanks for the continued feedback!

What in your opinion does "maximised on performance for people who want to look at the numbers" really mean? Sounding a bit erm slip some max terms in to impress, without actually having content, and pretty patronising in truth.

You can have the best performing "maxed" tech in the world, but if it doesn't feel right for gaming then its meaningless. Logitech have hit this problem a fair few times, and can't help but be unimpressed so far.

Question concerning 2020:

If you guys are going to use the same Agilent laser based sensor as the G5/Copperhead, and you guys are actually somehow turning UP the DPI, isn't negative accel and skipping going to be even MORE of a problem with that current technology than it already is with G5 and Copperhead?

Because, at the moment, NOBODY has resolved these issues with laser mice, and I imagine they won't be resolved until a new generation of laser sensor is released by Agilent. However, if Creative plans to use the existing sensor and then turn up the DPI, they'd probably be compounding the already-existing problem.

Depends what you mean by 'fine.'

The latest MS mice are "fine" to your average consumer. But if you are a low sens player and want to fling stuff around, no laser mouse at the moment does the job as competently as older optical mice.

So true - G5 and Razer (both of which I have personally tried) had a very annoying issue in their tracking due to the new laser engines. There have been alot of firmware updates to adjust them so they are reliable at high movement rates but it just isn't the same still, there are still alot of inconsistencies in tracking and he lasers in and of themselves are very picky about what they are tracking on. Optical is still a safe bet until a new laser engine or further firmware updates are available.

actully, even on the 1010, i have found that there is a tiny bit of negative accel on the higher DPI settings. I had to lower my sensitivity to .25 in q4 to actully see it, but it's there. the "green" 400dpi setting seems to not show any negative accel.

Well, as far as I know, there will be negative acceleration at SOME point no matter the sensor if A) sensitivity is sufficiently (or retardedly) low and B) movement is sufficiently fast.

That said, I mean negative accel within a normal range of movement. Like low/medium sense players reporting negative accel in normal style FPS movements, 180's and what have you.

Upon setting my USB polling rate to 1000Hz, and doing the circular motion, I receive a constant 333Hz, it does not stutter down to half the rate upon changing direction at this setting. The mouse feels very responsive and smooth now.

#155 Sorry to sound ambiguous on my last statement. That wasn't what I was going for.

Basically I should just say that we're going for what is going to feel and perform the best. Period. We've tweaked the firmware constantly to get the best performance out of the firmware. With the mouse performance consistency is key and our approach has been to have a consistent method for tracking the movements. There are some versions of firmware out there from other manufacturers that spam information not necessarily needed for motion tracking but satisfy the "numbers" folks by reporting 500hz consistently, but not necessarily providing information during that 500hz poll that is going to be useful to improve performance or accuracy of the mouse. The trick we have to manage on our side when tweaking the firmware is to

1. Keep the mouse performing at a high level with deadly accuracy

2. Keep the folks that are watching the numbers happy as well.

Our philosophy is all about optimization. Not throwing numbers out there just for numbers sakes. Call it the AMD approach if you will. Using the data pipe SMARTER not just brute forcing data across the path. Of course the proof is going to all be in the pudding (performance under fire...etc) but we've got a world champion gamer that is VERY involved in the design and testing process as well and will be using this mouse to win many more championships in the future. That should provide a pretty good foundation for us to proove our point. Ultimately I want to be using every freaking drop of bandwidth we can across the path as smart as we can and we have the best of both worlds at that point.

The 1010 will have its highest polls when running at 500hz. This is what it was optimized for as there are still a CONSIDERABLE amount of motherboards out there that do not fully support 1000hz reporting (as well as stability issues). If you are running a higher-end board then unlocking to 1000hz will provide you a stable solution as well.

Update on serials: So far the ones I've received are all checking out OK on the firmware side (as far as using the right firmware). I'm looking into what else could be causing an issue for folks...or if there is an issue with my firmware report I have here in front of me. Checking and double checking on my side here!

Sorry but I don't buy that. Other mice I have that run at a constant 500hz are noticeably smoother. Right now I'm running the 1000hz polling which only amounts to 333hz with this mouse (it still drops to 250ish every couple of seconds) and 333 is not synched with Q3 engine games which are mainly what I play. Most people play with 125fps in these games, therefore they need a steady 250/500/1000hz in order to be synched otherwise the game becomes choppy.
I hope the rate on the 2020 is steady. If it is then I guess I'll purchase it.

That's odd, mine never drops from 333Hz with constant motion, in all other Hz settings it does though. Hope this mouse gets it's problems ironed out otherwise it's doomed and the chatter from people with the 1010 will persuade guys not to get the 2020, especially since it's a laser mouse and everyone knows that tech has its share of problems.

Some more feedback:
I really like the shape of this mouse. It would definitely be my favorite mouse to come out thus far if...

1. it had out of the box 500 or 1000 dpi
2. was able to maintain the rate with little to no drops like Logitech and Razer can
3. the mouse cord was longer
4. the mouse buttons were quieter
5. drivers were fixed
6. gave the user the ability to upgrade firmware

Make all those adjustments and it would definitely be the best gaming mouse out. I don't like the black/red color scheme also but that's just preference. Maybe offer some alternative color choices down the road.
Creative has a good start with this mouse, now they just need to fix it up in certain areas.

I agree with #1, #2, #3. Ryan stated that the driver fix was already in the works so that takes care of #5. As for #4 the button loudness doesn't bother me I guess it's a personally preference but I wouldn't mind button 1 to be easier to click. That brings #6, I would rather just have it right from the start than hassling over updating firmware every week to fix something like Copperhead users have to do.

Are you creating consistency between the update frequency of the sensor motion registers and the USB motion reporting? I suspect it won't be that seeing as it's unlikely to make the slightest difference compared to simply providing the accumulated register values seeing as those registers are updated by the sensor at a very high frequency but it would be interesting to know what you are doing to create a consistent method for tracking movements.

That looks like a cheap shot at Razer. Their Copperhead initially had problems with the report rate being much lower than advertised as well as it producing "erroneous" motion data but Razer were able to fix those "bugs" with a newer firmware release. I would like to think mouse manufacturers would refrain from publicly making use of my research of the problems in a competitors mouse as a means of highlighting deficiences in competing products but you have seemingly just done that.

Bear in mind the bandwidth usage of a USB Low Speed device producing USB samples at 1ms intervals is negligable to a gamer.

Also bear in mind that a gamer might want as many samples as is possible so as to ensure the average number of motion samples per frame is high enough to ensure very smooth visuals. For example at 500hz the game would be consistently receiving 5 samples per frame at 100fps.

Care to elaborate on how you are using the data pipe smarter and the benefits of doing so?

I suspect you aren't using the data pipe smarter since there is no way it can be used any smarter than simply producing a mouse sample every time the USB host controller polls for one be it at 125hz, 500hz or 1000hz but maybe there is something you could add that will enlighten us on this subject.

Many have reported that the Fatal1ty 1010 when polled at 125hz is producing inconsistent results because every second mouse sample occurs at a 16ms interval instead of it producing samples every 8ms.

That inconsistency is probably the result of seriously screwed up firmware coding. If I were to take an educated guess I would probably come to the conclusion that the Fatal1ty 1010 isn't able to consistently produce a sample every 8ms because you haven't programmed the microcontroller to query the sensor motion registers at a high enough frequency. If this is the case then not only is the inconsistent reporting rate a problem but also the motion registers will be overflowing very quickly resulting in huge amounts of motion loss (seeing as the motion registers are only 8 bit with a range of -127 to 128) which in gamer terms means it will also be suffering from massive amounts of negative acceleration especially at the higher DPI settings.

I'm sure your firmware programmers will be hard at work fixing up the problems so I look forward to reading about a fixed version especially as the Fatal1ty 1010 could easily become a must have mouse albeit only for the right handed mouse users.

The smarter and more efficient AMD-like approach to the 1010 is laughable. The mouse is flawed, plain and simple. You can easily tell by the choppiness of the mouse at it's default polling rate compared to other mice. The mouse isn't even playable without increasing your USB hertz.
CreativeRS, I think it's good that you're getting input from the users on this site but you were talking out of your ass about how the mouse uses the data pipe smarter. That could be true for the 2020 but it definitely isn't for the 1010.

Personally I feel that the tracking feels horrible at the default 125Hz that the mouse is intended to be run on. Being as this is a new mouse, I am curious why it doesn't do 500Hz out of the box like the latest mice from your competitors does. The performance (smoothness) difference is night and day between a mouse operating at 125Hz and one operating at 500Hz. I love the shape of this mouse, which is why I overclocked my usb polling rate to make it possible to use this product. I hope that the 2020 does not have this polling issue, being I read somewhere that it will support 1000Hz out of the box.

i dont like lazer so i hope that this gets fixed without the need of programes/drivers to be installed cuz then im fooked if i go to a tourney without my comp lol. new firmware needed badly hehe i havent tested my mouse speed like some of u but i can see it in game, some times itl be very accurate and flipping awsome other times its.... meh :\ lame lol. but most of u i love the shape of the mouse so i dont really want to go to a diff 1 unless i have to.

2020 will support 1000hz out of the box.

1010 does NOT have upgradeable firmware. This was a feature never seen in prior mice (up until very recent laser gaming mice additions...and mainly due to the fact that manufacturers knew going out the door there was an issue with laser and some particular surface types. This is mainly coupled with LASER implementations because the amount of data that laser mice process requires by nature a higher end MCU (or Master Control Unit). This isn't saying that future iterations in the 1000 lineup will not have upgradeable firmware...but the 1010 does not support this right now.

Of COURSE we will refine the 1000 lineup. There is a VERY large number of gamers that prefer the reliability and stability of the prooven optical technology versus the fledgling laser technology. The recent high-resolution lasers are very new technology that do not have the benefit of years of refinement behind them.

The good news for us while entering the laser space with the 2020 is that we will already have refinements at launch and the benefit of some mistakes that were made early on with laser mice that entered the market earlier. We're VERY excited about the 1010 and 2020 mice because we can cover both preferences.

Like I said earlier...these mice will be used competitively by Fatal1ty himself. He's got championships to win..there's a LOT of motivation behind refining and enhancing (especially when John has my direct number!). I'm still watching and getting the feedback here so as long as you guys are dishing it out...I'm going to soak it in. I'll update as well on the additional results I find as well. I've tried to hit up all the PM's that have been sent my way and will keep doing so!

Fatal1ty being one that has used Q3's acceleration, should understand the need for multible acceleration steppings.
Not just like Logitech's low/medium/high.
Should be at least 10 steppings - or even 1-100.

And comparable to Quake3's accel. You have to keep in mind that there are different implementations of mouse accel. Some are shit, some are not.

Yeah, I want the Q3/Logitech non-threshold based acc.

I would wait for the 2020 before deciding just yet. It would be nice if we could get a release date to know when that is exactly. I was a longtime user of the MX310. This mouse, if properly renovated, will prove to be superior so if I were you I'd just wait a while.

Last night I overclocked my USB ports to 1000hz (tried 500hz first but it wasn't as smooth) and now the 1010 acts/feels like a COMPLETELY different mouse. Seriously. I had no idea it was going to make this much of a difference. By the way, after overclocking the USB port to the maximum 1000hz, my mouserate monitoring tool reports a fairly steady 333hz, but it's much smoother now. The only time the mouse rate drops is when you move the mouse very slowly or change directions.

I couldn't understand why the mouse initially felt so relatively choppy/sluggish compared to my Logitech/Razer mice. Now I know what was causing it.

P.S. I never bothered to check, but what does the mouserate monitoring tool report for the Logitech and Razer laser mice? Can they hold a steady 500hz or 1000hz in the mouserate monitoring tool?

Well the G5 does 500Hz without needing to overclock the usb port and it sustains about 499Hz with constant movement. My mx310 on the 500Hz setting averaged 449Hz. I wish these problems would get ironed out quicker with the 1010 so I could return it for a newer revision. Razer Copperhead also gets about 499Hz and does not use usb port overclocking to do so, but that mouse skips a lot for me on the 400dpi setting.

Also, all mice i've ever tested in mouserate drop Hz when you move them very slowly. Here are a couple programs to test your mouse, with the DirectX one being the more accurate program written more recently.

I'd be curious to see an answer to my question about laser mice and their current tracking/negative acceleration problems, and how using the same laser sensor (the one in the G5 and Copperhead) with DPI cranked up would actually exacerbate those current problems.

Sorry I didn't answer sooner in your inquiry for the laser optics.

We're using an iteration of the optics used in other laser mice on the market (Agilent made of course..they are the best hands down), but not the exact same optics. I'll try and get some specs on the differences between our revised model and what is currently out there. Just takes some time to talk to engineering on this one.

It's actually an interesting arguement when it comes down to laser vs. LED optical. I firmly believe that optical LED has LONG legs in the market because of the stability and tried and tested performance and optimizations that have been made along the way. Optical LED also just "feels" different to most people and there is a LONG adaption curve for people that are used to using the lower DPI or optical based mice to laser. Optical LED has almost a 10 year head start on laser. Now with THAT being said...there are some AMAZING things we can do with laser. I agree that the current issues with laser are a drawback and we're confident our engineering will be able to surpass other offerings on the market and avoid as many of the drawbacks as possible. We do have the luxury of entering the laser market a bit later so we can address these at launch. I know you're looking for more detail...so once I have some SOLID details to talk to you about..rest assured I'll enter them here with Negative accel info being one of my top priorities since that is a hot topic.

One of the questions I'm asked a LOT by many folks is "Why are you guys taking so long to come out with these products". We've got the gamers in our minds and Fatal1ty is basing his entire gaming livelihood on these devices performing at a professional caliber when 150k or more in cash is on the line. We're certainly going to make sure that the mouse or keyboard is not what brings him a defeat! The good news is..that same performance is passed on to all the other gamers that buy the Fatal1ty line products as well.

For those who are interested: The Fatal1ty 1010 mouse measurements (eyeballed using a tape measure) looks to be about 2.75" wide and 4.125" long.

In comparison, the Logitech MX518 is just a hair over 5 inches long. It's really hard to measure exactly how wide the Logitech is, because it has a fairly deep thumb indent. Suffice it to say, the Fatal1ty mouse is noticeably wider (in terms of where you grip the mouse) than the Logitech MX518.

Wider mouse in gaming = good. That's one of the things people loved so much about the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0. While the 1010 is not as narrow as the Logitech mice, I wish it was even wider to be honest.

As an experiment, I folded up a piece of tissue paper several times and placed it between my thumb and the Fatal1ty 1010 mouse. In spite of a moveable tissue being between my thumb and mouse, it felt much nicer having my thumb closer to its natural resting position -- it actually made the mouse easier to control. I am considering modifying this mouse to attach a thick piece of rubber to the left side where the thumb rests..

I agree..wider = better. So does the doc that consulted on the ergo for the mouse.

It really is a finger control mouse that lets you use your palm as a tactile device for better accuracy. You can work some insane flickshots with the 1010.

If so, I'd suggest IM'ing your serial number to the Creative guy - figuring out what mice DO work properly seems as important as figuring out the ones that don't.

I returned my first 1010 since CreativeRS thought there was a problem with some of the batches. The second 1010 I received is exactly the same.

The good news is that the mouse performs well when upping the USB to 1000hz. However I'd prefer to have a steady 500 or 1000 rate. If they fix the polling problem and give it a longer cord then they've got a great product on their hands.

They need to identify the problem and FAST, and start offering some free exchanges for the fix they need to release. Also fast.

My mouse's polling rate is low. On top of that, the DPI button is broken and doesn't switch to green (400 dpi). Instead it goes amber, red red, instead of green, amber red. I'm pretty pissed to say the least. Creative will hear from me soon.

Yea. and he's def not in constant touch with fatal1ty and this product was never tested by fatal1ty or else he would have been like wow, what a piece of shit. This mouse is ergonomicall beautiful. Perfect set of features, not too flashy or complicated, yet with the right amount of features for hardcore gamers. But then, it tracks worse than my microsoft ball mouse. ridiculous. oh, did i mention my DPI button is broken too? can anyone say QUALITY CONTROL? I'm RMA'ing this thing asap and am gonna be extra weary when the 2020 comes out.

That said, how nobody managed to catch this crippling of a bug in the release of a gaming mouse is absolutely astonishing. I would strongly consider buying either this or the 2020 *IF* creative could just resolve the polling.

I don't even care about the drivers that come with the mouse or any of the other crap. Give people what they're actually paying for and this mouse, imho, will get an enormous following because there's a fuckload of people who liked the wingman 3 button shape.

Hell, I like it so much that I still use it more often than not as my gaming mouse - except with an IE 3.0 sensor in it.

As far as "talking out of my ass"...we are indeed taking a different approach to the firmware code and the data path utilization for the mice. I made reference to AMD since they basically had the same thing told to them when they started focusing on optimization rather than pure Mhz numbers with their processors. I think just about every gamer agrees that "thinking outside the box" has worked quite well for them in the long run. "Status Quo" is not something we're happy with. We're here to play and help make elite pro-caliber products...not just cram new technology into an old shell and call ourselves a "gamer" product. That's something that we're looking to change industry wise and something we've always done as a company in general. You need to look no further than the X-Fi line of sound cards to see that.

We take the line very seriously. And I am taking all of the information here and working with my support team to resolve. Keep the faith folks. We're not letting this one die till it's right.

Well the approach to the firmware that has been made is causing the mouse to be very choppy when moved in game, it's like playing with a ps/2 mouse and setting the sample rate at 60Hz, that's exactly how it feels.

So far I've counted 0 people who have bought the mouse and had it perform normally.

I would be interested to see even ONE person screenshot them moving the mouse in large, quick circles with mouserate running and show a consistent polling output.

In case you haven't, read the review on esreality main page, sums up what seems to be most people's experience with the mouse.

Basically, the mouse is incapable of giving consistent polling, and tends to 'halve' its input frequently at 125, 250, and 500 hz. Quite similar to the behavior of the intellimouse explorer 4.0, just as an fyi.

The only way to get consistent polling is to run the mouse at 1000 hz, in which case it polls at a consistent 333 hz (you got me).

Thing is, not all motherboards are able to keep a stable 1000Hz USB. Like my MSi for example.
This is a mobo issue, not mouse related.

I'm *not* saying the 1010 mouse is able to keep a stable 1000Hz and blaming the motherboards instead.

Just saying that even if you take a Logi G5/Razer CH and connect it to certain mobos, you will never gain stable 1000Hz, simply because some mobos aren't able to do so.

That said, it certainly looks like the 1010 is not even able to handle the standard 125hz well enough. That mouse needs more working on.

Just keep in mind that some mobos cannot run the USB stably at 1000Hz. (500hz every mobo should be able to though, afaik)

id would like a fix for this prob fast plz. and not from updates or drivers eather, i cant be installing drivers everywere i go. ryan i gota say that this is very disapointing, especialy when you never get back to me wen i gave u my serial # on msn, i dono if this is cuz lots of work or wut but i dont like it. i had such high hopes for this mouse and i told every1 i knew that this would be the shit wen it came out i practickly swore by it. my gateway mouse that came with my 3 year old plz (GATEWAY YEA THATS RIGHT!) runs smoother then the fat 1010 but its a shame that later it had registering problems :( as for the dude who talked about the dpi being stuck on 2 things, i had a prob with this and found that if i moved the dpi bar with the drivers installed a lil bit back and forth itd fix the prob. plz fix the polling to like a steady 450+ and then i may be willing to defend this products name again. when i first used this product at fat shootout on dec 3rd i told u there that it felt weird, i couldnt describe it really but i knew somthing was wrong but at the same time i wasnt sure if it was just cuz im usto my crapy mx1000. plz fix creative, save my day lol.

The rather sad conclusion to this cannot be anything else but that Fatal1ty is one of two things:

#1 A rather greedy bloke, who knows he's backing a semi-faulty piece of hardware (but doesn't care as he's making a buck on it)

#2 Too 'stupid' to sense that this mouse can't perform very well at all.


If all what you guys are reporting is true, I cannot fathom how Fatal1ty can't have noticed the poor performance of this mouse by now. Especially not when the Creative guy is claiming that Fat is testing it a whole lot.

Sorry, that's not being anal - anyone who experiences the above (i.e. anyone who buys the mouse) will notice it sucks. There's no way around it.

Unless he has been using 1000hz polling on his pc all the time (like me for example). I wouldn't have noticed anything at all. But since fatality probably doesn't use the patch, because of the cpl restrictions, I do see the point now :)

Actually CPL doesent allow using USB tweak so if he plays with it he's fucked! But i think he'll be using 2020 which hopefully will have constant 1000hz.

The longer this lingers on the more doubt I have that 1010 will be fixed and 2020 will more than likely exhibit the same issues plus the lovely lasers problem with certain surfaces.

I got my 1010 mouse today. I like the shape and the movement seems fine even with the lower hz. I wish my left finger button was easier to press down like the Logitech G5 though.

Download mouserate.exe and show us the output with you moving the mouse in large, quick circles.

My guess is, Creative, by now, realised that they have serious, serious issues with their 1010 - not just a batch or two of them.

And this 2020, I'll bet you any thing, won't be a hint better. In fact, most likely it will be even worse, considering it's #1 laser and #2 tries to flush through a much higher dpi on the same bandwidth as the 1010.

Maybe I'll order a 1010 anyway and see if I can put some MX518 optics in it, as I hear the shape of the 1010 is mint.

The 2020 scares me, and here's why:

The 1010 was their 'safe' mouse. They take the Agilent board in the Diamondback/mx510 and tweak it a little and establish themselves as another option for a 'gaming mouse,' as there is still a huge market for optical mice.

I mean really, they didn't have to do much of anything, all the technology was in place, ALL they had to do was put it in a case. But then they decided to "tweak" it too.

The result? Absolute garbage - polling remniscent of an Intellimouse Explorer 4.0.

So, the 1010, in which they had to do almost fucking nothing to get to work properly, managed to be completely botched.

The 2020 on the other hand represents their 'elite' mouse, something that's being heavily tweaked to go above and beyond the current laser mice. 2400 DPI instead of 2000 DPI etc.

Which means there's that much MORE room for fuckup potential.

Based on the ineptitude Creative displayed in the 1010, I'm guessing the 2020 will literally explode when you plug it into the USB port.

I really wanted to get the 1010 for the shape and the fact that it was optical, I wont get a 2020 simply because its laser. I hope they suck it up and recall / re-release the 1010...

I love the shape of this mouse, but I'm experiencing some odd problems. At 1600cpi, everything is fine.. at 800 and 400, the mouse doesn't respond to slow movements. I can slowly drag my mouse in any direction and it doesn't track whatsoever. It does this on any surface I've tried.
Also, I'm unable to get the 4th and 5th buttons to work in-game. I've tried remapping, changing the mapping, changing my binds, everything.
I've had no problems with skipping or anything - with polling set to 500Hz I'm averaging 340 or so.
Can anyone lend suggestions to fix these issues?

*note: I am using the Creative drivers and fatal1ty cfg software (which is pretty shitty.. I've got cutlery with more options than this crap has)

You need to uninstall the Creative drivers because they severely mess up the movement for some reason. Just stick with Windows drivers.

Can you map the extra buttons without the software?

I have this question on mice in general.

I noticed that unless drivers natively recognize your mouse, you can't seem to remap the buttons, which really sucks and limits me in making my Frankenmice.

A safe assumption, given the problems others have had. The thing is, I experienced the "dead zone" or tracking issue from the second I plugged the mouse in. I only installed the Creative drivers thinking they'd clear up the problem :/

I've still no solution to my binding problem - the thumb and shiny button are still unusable in game, yet in windows they perform their assigned task. Any ideas?

I used to bind my windows key to 0x00 ingame (q3) after I disabled it with a reg file (a disabled key is mapped to 0x00 afaik). Assuming that your mouse needs to map buttons somehow aswell, I gues if you can figure out to which hex value's those keys are mapped you could do the same thing. iirc you have to map them through autoexec.cfg else it doesn't work.

If you have more information on this, it'd be much appreciated.

I am no where near a hardware expert so I do not know if a mouse works like this aswell but that's up to you to find out :) A long time ago I did some research on disabling the windows key because I only wanted the right windows key to stop functioning (and be bindable ingame) and not the left.

I used this page + doc and a standaard disable all winkey's reg file (sorry can't find mine) to figure out how it worked:

in game i can bind the mouse 4 and 5 (thumb and far 3rd mouse) to guns and what not, and even outa game with no drivers the mouse 4 and 5 will do back and forward for internet explorer, which is basickly all i need. i also hear very good things about the fat 2020.

Seems like the Creative guy skipped town on this topic, maybe he's getting them to fix the 1010's and replace all the bad ones......HAHA right.

Hopefully the european version will have firmware that polls the sensor motion registers at least 1000 times a second regardless of the USB Hz being 125, 500 or 1000. I'm left handed but I'm gonna buy it and see how it goes playing right handed. :)

I'm also looking at Creative's 7500, which I suspect features the MX510 sensor. It's got a nice shape and lots of buttons. But cannot be bought in the EU for some damn reason.

Last that was mentioned was sometime in February. I wouldn't mind waiting a few more weeks to make sure they fix up the firmware though.

First off. BIGTIME apologies for my absence. We're in the middle of testing several products for imminent launch (you can read into that if you want to ;) )

Some quick updates here:

-We've found two issues with our driver that we're addressing with a patch within a week or two assuming QA goes well with them. One of them addresses the "no slow movement" issue and the other addresses a handle that was causing a rather serious performance issue in some situations. I'll throw you all a link for a beta release of this prior to QA approval once I have a build, and I'd love to hear if it solves the issue with the folks that are seeing it.

- I've got little to talk about the polling numbers for the 1010 at this time. Engineering is still in the process of investigating and qualifying the issue. We're talking about the same engineers that work with the 51 million transistor X-Fi chip...so they are hitting this thing up with a fine toothed comb. They take pride in the performance of this line and are taking this seriously...especially when I point to this thread and show them just how demanding the "hardcore" gamers are. I WILL update you all once I have a final word. Speaking without actual facts to talk about will not help the issue at all. So once I have something firm to talk about I WILL update here first. On the outside I'll be working to remedy the issue as well. I know this isn't the answer people are looking for..but it's the best I have right now. Apologies for that. One thing to note is that the 1010 does perform quite well if the driver is not loaded and your system is unlocked to 500hz. Once the driver update is released we expect performance to be even better. Again, I will update when I have actual info / numbers to talk about. Anything less and I KNOW people will start crucifying me again ;)

Some info on the 2020.

- Cord is MUCH longer
- CPI settings can be customized in software and you can assign any color to any setting
- Finish is different (different color variation / deep silver main buttons)
- Main buttons have rubberized texture similar to the sides of the 1010, but slightly different
- Different contouring on the mouse. Finger grooves for buttons are different. Thumb groove is larger and surrounds the button for different play styles. Pinky ridge on the right hand side for people that want to "rest" their pinky on an edge.
- Firmware is being extensively tested vs 5 different polling methods. We still are optimizing our data and flowpath mainly due to the fact that different motherboards have VASTLY different rates that are supported across the USB bus. The 1000hz range in particular is interesting in that many motherboards prior to the past 6 months or so have bizarre results when unlocked to 1000hz. 500hz is the much more stable option for older motherboards. Out of the box support for 500 and 1000hz is there.
- The 2020 is indeed the flagship mouse of the lineup. Our biggest concern is tracking with all surfaces. We've even contemplated using a different laser and lens set to avoid this. But testing has been very solid to date and we have the luxury of being aware of the issue before we ship to ensure that proper testing takes place on the "trouble" surfaces before we ship.
- The 2020 includes 5 weights instead of 3. These weights are 3.5 / 11 / 15 / 19 and 26g. You will find that these weights make your mouse weigh almost "exactly" the weight of other very popular mice

Can you guys take a second to qualify that and give me the reasons? I'm assuming it has to do with Negative Accel and tracking issues with certain surfaces. Anything outside of that?

More info will be coming as well. Just wanted to let you guys know I haven't disappeared...just been VERY "hands on" in the testing and development that's going on internally. Sometime soon I might actually get to "play" a game again.

Just as a suggestion, if at all possible, stick the optical board STRAIGHT from Agilent you're getting into a case minus the optimization you guys have been running.

So, with your vanilla board, run mouserate.exe or a similar polling program and move the mouse in reasonably quick, medium to large circles. Right now that's the gold standard for figuring out how steady the polling is.

If the vanilla Agilent boards demonstrate a frequent 'halving' of polling (as in the review linked from esreality that I hope you've read), then Agilent has screwed you and the problem lies ultimately with them. This isn't totally impossible, so I'd make sure first that you guys are even to blame.

Assuming, however, the vanilla board DOES work fine, it's then a matter of tracing the steps taken to 'optimize' the firmware and see which of those steps results in the polling halving problem.

In that I don't personally work in anybody's design team, do feel free to take this with a grain of salt, but it seems the most logical solution to me.

The shape changes sound kinda scary to me. 'Pinky ridges' and 'deep thumb grooves' makes me think less of a fingertip mouse, and more of a palmed one. Deep thumb grooves are why I gave up on the Mx5xx line.

For the laser to be successful, it needs to be able to match or surpass opticals in absolutely every way. That doesn't mean simply being able to "work" on most/all surfaces. If the mouse can't maintain tracking when moving the mouse as fast as you're physically capable, then it doesn't "work" as far as I'm concerned.

If your 1010 tracked as well/consistently as my DB, I'd order it right now.

You asked for some input so here is some information gathered from my research and testing over the last while:

A couple of months ago I wrote a threaded DirectInput mouse rate checker which produces much more accurate results than other checkers out there but unfortunately because I used WaitForSingleObject the results can be skewed on some systems due to the inadequacies of the Windows CPU Scheduler.

Most systems that can support 1000hz do produce 1000hz results with my program but there are some systems producing weird results for example the DirectInput notifications become delayed for many usb frames resulting in them queuing up and then they all appear one after the other very quickly.

I know of a much better solution to provide accurate results but haven't had the time to code it yet but I will probably get around to it in the near future.

Basically what I'm saying is you can't rely on the results from programs such as mouserate.exe when the polling is set to 1000hz because the Windows CPU Scheduler or the methods used to measure the polling aren't accurate enough at 1000hz.

I should add 1000hz capability isn't exactly a necessity because the game programmer must choose a DirectInput buffer size and most games make do with the sample code provided by Microsoft long ago. It used a buffer size of 16 which obviously overflows when using 1000hz and a low framerate for example Quake4's 62.5hz although Quake4 doesn't suffer this problem becuase the Raven/id coders wisely decided to use a 256 buffer element which is plenty enough at 1000hz but you can't be sure future games will use any more than a 16 element buffer unless of course the developers become educated in the joys of higher polling.

You could of course fix this problem with an additional driver which hooks into the system and sits in between DirectInput and the game whereby it buffers without overflowing and passes the elements onto the game as they are requested. This would be a marketable feature seeing as you could guarentee that no DirectInput buffer overflowing will be occuring with your products. An easier way would probably be to inform Microsoft that they need to make 256 the default and minimum buffer size in the next version of DirectX or better still a hotfix.

While we're talking about hotfixes you could also inform Microsoft that they need to remove the 125hz limitation they added to usbport.sys in Windows XP so programs like my USBHz can programmatically change the polling rate of Low Speed USB mice like the Fatal1ty 1010 in Windows XP or you could even write your own USB Hz style program and include it in your drivers.

As far as your needs are concerned regarding selling your product as 1000hz capable you need to make sure the microcontroller used can actually service 1000 USB polls a second and the microcontroller firmware also needs to be programmed so that it reads the motion registers at least 1000 times a second so there is motion data available to send when the USB Host Controller polls the mouse for new input.

Do the above and your mouse will be producing 1000hz results regardless that the rate checkers say otherwise on some systems.

The 1000hz issue isn't so much a problem on Linux because there is an issue with the USB scheduling resulting in 500hz being the highest polling rate but noone really cares about it for now and it's no wonder since 500hz is more than enough for most gamers needs although no doubt it'll get fixed in the kernel at some point in time.

I did a lot of research on the Razer Copperhead reporting rate problems and motion data reporting issues including reading up on the microcontroller used and the agilent sensor and writing various programs to test it's capabilities. I knew it was definately possible for the Copperhead to produce 1000hz polling and in fact it now does thanks to my diligence in constantly explaining what was wrong and why it was happening and of course by providing solutions.

Any chance of a left handed version for me and all the other left handed mouse users?

Someone will do it eventually and I hope it'll be Creative but no doubt it's already too late for your current range of mice. Best bet would be to design the PCB and button switches so they fit properly in both a left handed and right handed shell and have the side button on a floating PCB so that it can be clipped in place either side of the main PCB.

Failing the option of a left handed version of the 1010 or 2020 an ambidextrous mouse that can be held finger tip style with good tech and firmware would be something I'd definately buy from Creative until such time as left handed mice become available or I make the switch to playing right handed. :)

Also for the laser tech and surface testing. There is a SQUAL register in the sensor that could be included in the USB report so that you can read it on the PC. It is updated every sensor frame and contains the surface quality which is like a rating of the mouse pad surface with regards to tracking ability. Might be worth suggesting your engineers look into it so as to be able to provide feedback to Agilent or just for testing internally on various mouse pads. It would be really nice if you were to enable an option in your mouse drivers/control panel so that we mere mortals can see a graph of the SQUAL value for testing various mouse pads ourselves.

I could write alot more but I've rambled on too much already and hopefully some of the above will be useful to you.

Also, I think the pinky ridge is a HORRIBLE idea on the 2020. Razer did this and it makes every single one of their mice uncomfortable, imho.

What makes this mouse unusable? It's not the polling bug or the drivers, it's the sensor strength. At THREE TIMES the distance lifted off of a mousepad compared to an mx518, this mouse STILL REGISTERS MOVEMENT, which means when you lift your hand after a large sweep to reset the mouse in the center of your mousepad, it tosses your view, making it IMPOSSIBLE to aim unless the mouse never leaves the mousepad.

This is ridiculous, got an answer for that CreativeRS? Never heard or seen of it, I'm sure, just like the polling, TOTALLY SURPISED I'M SURE, lol...

It would be interesting to see other people confirm this, particularly since the sensor is allegedly the exact same one in the mx518. So what you're saying shouldn't happen (or at least shouldn't be THAT noticable in that the distance from sensor to surface should be pretty close in any two flat bottomed mice within reason..

There's a lesson to learn from all this. Don't be so hasty to change your mouse right away when a new 'revolutionary' one comes out. It's better to be on the safe side and wait several months.

That's the whole point..... it was not supposed to be all new and revolutionary.
It was simply a MX518 sensor in a Wingman Gaming mouse.

I got this mouse, because I know the MX518 is good shit and the Wingman shape kicks ass.

Well even if it wasn't revolutionary I meant anything that is new and is supposed to rock. And I got the impression that it's not gonna be just a MX518 sensor with Wingman look due to the Fatal1ty involved in the production process ;) I had my hopes high too but I didn't rush and buy one since I'm content with my old MX518 atm. If the 1010 would turn to be a kickass mouse I culd think about it tho.

But imo ppl should stick with their favourite mouse or the one they've been using for so long. Due to my MX experience I'm always going for the next one in the series (if it's good - didn't get G5 tho, waiting on next generation ;)) since I know it won't fail me in the long run. But yeah I still wait some time after initial release just to be on the safe side.

Well, I was relying on rumor to indicate they had a 'second' version of the 1010 coming out that actually worked.

But nobody, as far as I know, has been given any update as to the status of the Fat 1010. It's currently dead in the water, so I'd strongly recommend against buying one, at least until it's fixed.

Yes there will be! There is info on the fatality forums about that subject. Apparenty they sent the new version to fat for testing. Also that was the reason why 2020 was delayed.
tbh I really dont care coz I finaly settled with a ms wmo

I also have issues with the 1010. When I install the drivers to remap some of the buttons for windows and other games, it works fine. When I run Quake4, the REASON I got the mouse in the first place, the button clicking causes the mouse to literally turn. I can click over and over again and the mouse works its way in a circle. So, everytime I release or depress the 2nd or 3rd mouse button(not the left side button), it shifts to the left or to the right. The mouse will be completely still when this happens.

When I uninstall the drivers, it works fine in Quake4, but then I can't remap any of the keys for my other games/windows.

AND, when you toggle the CPI button, it doesn't toggle in a uniform respective pattern. I have it at 1600(red), click it once, it stays red, click it again it goes to 400cpi(green), then click it again it goes to 1600cpi(red). It completely skips over the 800cpi(amber) selection.

This is severely messed up, and Creative will no longer get my money. The only chance they have at redeeming the company with the gaming market is to at least ADDRESS the issue on their site. I can deal with the polling issue, but the button issue just makes Quake4 unplayable with the drivers, and the on-the-fly selection just doesn't work correctly. BOOOOO. It's just stupid.

I like how they're saying that "in some batches" there's an issue with the Hz of the mouse. Has there been a single case where the mouse actually works properly?

I dunno if this has been solved here, but i have been reading and only saw that "polling issue" that does not explain or tell me how to fix it.

The problem is that sometimes when When I try to double click something, or click it even once, it clicks too many times. If I will gently press the left mouse button, it acts as if I've pressed it 4 or 5 times.

For example, I will try and double click my internet browser, but 4 will come up.

Any idea of why this happen and how I can fix this?

Overall I think the mouse is good besides that clicking stuff i have not suffered any problem.

Sadly it happens because the main button microswitches on both the fatal1ty mice are really, really awful. They wear out and their internal mechanism becomes loose far too quickly. I 'solved' the issue by taking the crap switches out and replacing them with the larger switches from my pile of old broken boomslangs (funnily enough another mouse bought on the recommendation of fatal1ty). That's the only solution I can think of, unless anyones created some sort of click-filtering mouse driver for windows.

Interesting, how you change that? It is hard?

Basically I done this all out of desperation as I had no other mice, and I wouldn't recommend it. Anyway:
I mounted 2 of the larger 3 pin style microswitches in place of the old ones by using a dremel drill to make holes for the pins, then soldering wires onto the pins and routing them back round to the connecting pins of the daughterboard that the microswitches are on. Then I hacked the mouse buttons and upper mouse shell to bits until it all went back together. Needless to say, it utterly invalidates the warranty on the mouse, but the larger buttons appear not to suffer from the same wearing problems that the smaller ones do. I also tightened the mousewheel at the same time with pliers.

You're probably better off trying to RMA / return your existing mouse, rather than take it to bits, as the mouse feet never seem to lie quite flat once they've been lifted up to access the screws keeping it together. In the end I replaced them with an everglide Hyperglidez set for a Logitech G5. Not an ideal solution at all :{

ok update from my little brother, the mouse was working fine @ start, it ran np @ 500 hz stable and no skipping

Now the left mousebutton has going crazy. Basically it's useless now. Crap mouse tbh
