Nice, this should serve as an useful link for players and server admins.

Just to make it clear in case it wasn't, the first TMP pack is completely obsolete now. Players and server admins should remove "map_tmp01.pk4" if they still have it, and replace it "map_tmp02.pk4" from the version 2 zip.

cause 2ya and 1 mega on small maps are way to easy to get a almost unbreakable control. I only played 2 games on tmpfleet, wont the first with 25-2 and lost the second with 1-20. vs the same opponent. And edge is just stupid cause in serious games i think we will se if22^10 games.

we extensively talked about that already.

CB will not switch for now because the cups started with XBattle already and there is no REAL improvement coming along with switching the mod over to Q4MAX.

the next version of XBattle will have better brightskins again and a lot of other stuff aswell. I am sure Q4MAX will aswell bring a good heap of new features but right now there is just no urgent NEED to switch.

If it becomes absolutely needed we will switch, but only if a real benefit is there (for example if Q4MAX offers vital features that XBattle does not offer).

we will evaluate the mod-situation during the next couple of weeks depending on how the next versions of the mods turn out to be. it will be decided early enough before the lan tournament.

When CB made the decision to take xbattle, arQon had not joined Q4MAX yet etc, so I can not say what the decision would have been if he had been there back then. But as I said, we will carefully observe the evolution of both mods.

Actually arqon has been involved with the mod since its inception in the private channel, same with blowfish. But as their was no SDK there was little amounts of actual "coding" to be done. Q4MAX just never announced its team.

You made your decisions to choose xbattle, simply when they released a version 3 days after Q4MAX with slight improvements on Q4MAX. At a time when both mods were hardly "mods" it suggested a personal relationship bias with X-battle team, and I quote your reason for doing so;

"well as I already said I know the X-Battle guys for years already and I know what they CAN do and what they WILL do when an SDK is released.

and don`t be afraid of too much interference. It`s surely not planned to make it a mod just for GGL/CB. It`s aimed to be a community mod for Quake 4."

"well we can obviously not start the cups without a mod.

the close relation we have to the X-Battle team and the already nice features it has have made the difference for us."

To me it seems more like an attempt by yourself to standardise X-Battle before both mods have proven their mettle, due to your personal relationship with the team.

well we thought a close relation with the team and involvement into the development is a good thing. so yes you are quoting me right, but I am not sure what you are trying to say with it. ofcourse the "relation" we have to champi was one of the reasons. same goes for the CPL and blowfish, no? ;)

next to that, it wasn`t my personal decision. the mod-decision was made by many people (most of them don`t know more from champi than his name)

btw: I can not help the fact that you didn`t announce the team of Q4MAX earlier, right? ;) I surely did not know about arqon`s involvement at the point of decision for xbattle. anyways, I already said that this is no final decision and that we will ofcourse monitor both mods and use what is best obviously.

I am really not sure what the intention of your comment here is. the mods are very similar in theur current state, so there simply is no real benefit when moving to this or the other. I already said we will switch if needed, so there`s no need to quote me to prove anything or well heck I just don`t know what your intention was :P

well it was only in that one way personal that I think a close relation to a modding team and their improvements and way of working is a good thing.

and it was rushed ? ... maybe. but we needed to decide back then because of qualifiers approaching etc. and the mods did almost have no differences back then so either choice would have been equally good or bad.

I can only repeat that the decision is far from final and we will switch if it becomes really needed/important.

Just because he modded in PK doesn't mean he would do a good Q4 mod, you are arguing the same point as the other guy is in defence of his choice of x-battle. He knew the guy had made quality mods before and so took him on? Same with CPL and Q4Max...... Who cares anyway, you both should grow up and work together. It's like watching children arguing about the attention of a baby sitter, and in the end i am of the opinion that you should both merge and be done with it. Change the name to all mods, but it's people who want the power over the community. You can have a pool of work which people take bits out of i don't see why Q4MAX and arQon should give people work to do being code monkeys. It's a community project not some kind of corporate business, if people talked and dropped their egos (being shown here) then the community would be better for it.

All you need to see is the prize distribution, I am not saying the Q4Max team is getting paid, but they certainly have more at stake then a community effort would generally have. If they screw up their mod, it has a much greater amount of exposure being in the CPL then XBM currently does imo.

I feel that they probably have a sense of accountability now, but thats just me.

As for this code monkey/slave/grunt, stuff. I am still taking it with a grain of salt until I see irc logs. ; ) And how is it demeaning? Once again, a project has leads, and it has implementation groups, testers, ect.

Its not demeaning to me to be given a task to do, its just a task assigned, thats how the real world works, if XBM can work as a perfectly anarchist organization with no control, no leads, and everyone doing whatever they want, good for them but its not a focused competition mod at that point, its just a mod that is implementing random things.

Personally I will take some structure, and control in a project over haphazard random implementation any day. I honestly think its just that XBM didnt want anyone to have a lead position at all, they didnt like Q4Max having a project manager, he(she?) left, they didnt want arQon to be a lead and they want the source to be out there for anyone and everyone to use.

Fine let there be open source, but then how many forks will there be of the project? How many hundreds (?) of posts have there been crying about the shattered q4 community already because there are OMG 2! comp mods? Open source opens the door for forking of the project, and you will have "jester! xbm comp mode! rail at 50 damage!" servers beside uberMG xbm comp mode servers. Lets see the shattered community then. :D

Why is it so pro q4max here? I personally like XBattle better for several reasons. I just think we all need to give them a chance (and that means judging them after several patches or like 8-10 months later). I just think everyone rushes their decisions w/o even considering what is best for the q4 community. These snap judgments you make do have an affect. In the end, we are all one family.

It would work a lot better if steamfish just handled everything. And q4max, or whatever mod, could just put the new maps on the steamfish servers. That way, all anyone ever has to do is update steamfish. Sort of like the way steam works for CS. And if there's one thing CS is good at, it's getting newbies to play. And things like steam are why.

Hotfix for XBM

edit: oh, he seems to have updated..anyways, that hotfix thingie is needed in leagues aswell.
