Eh I'm not really biased, I havent donated anyone and not cheering for anyone at this point. But I dont mind anyone who plays every TDM league and plays the majority of duel cups to ask for donations so I wish good luck to 102 and Avengers. Also it's REALLY expensive to go from Russia so I kinda understand them personally. However when strenx or tox ask for donations before even logging into ql for the first time after over a year long breaks I'm kinda sceptical about their motivation. Nothing personal towards them but it's kinda lame.

Actually, I don't think that's true.

Points are awarded like this:

4 Rounds of Play per Mode
Maximum of 5 Points per Round
2 points per overall match win
1 point per map win (3 maps per set)
Maximum of 20 Points per Division

I just realized that there will always be 3 maps played in each round. It's not Bo3, it's a three-map series.

That means if you win a match 3:0 in maps, you get 5 points and your opponent gets 0 points. Even if you only win 2:1 in maps, you still get 4 points and your opponent gets 1 point. So you can really rack up some points if you win all 4 rounds in one mode.

If 102 dominates TDM in this way, and cooller is among the top 2-3 in duel (point-wise), then winning only 1 out of 4 rounds in CTF could be enough for them. That should be quite doable, especially considering that the Swiss system creates matches between teams that have been equally successful in the previous rounds.

Of course it would help if there isn't also a team that dominates CTF by winning 4 rounds, but instead multiple teams go 3-1 in rounds. This isn't entirely unlikely, assuming e.g. that there will be 3 top NA teams which can all beat each other.

I'm curious to see how this will work out. Right now I think that if one team dominates in one mode, average performances in the other two modes could be enough.

My point was only that 102 will need to be very strong in CTF if they want to be crowded, for example DaHanG's team is actually way more versatile imo.

But they have 4 months to train hard. :)

102 could:

- In TDM, win two matches 3:0 and win two matches 2:1. This earns them 18 points. [1st place in TDM]
- In duel, cooller wins 3:0 in two matches, wins 2:1 in one match, and loses 1:2 in another match. This earns them 15 points. [2nd place in duel.]
- In CTF, they win one match 2:1, lose one match 1:2 and lose two matches 0:3. This earns them 5 points. [~7th place in CTF]

102 has 38 points total.

DaHanG's team could:

- In CTF, they win 2 matches 3:0, win one match 2:1 and lose one match 1:2. This earns them 15 points. [1st or 2nd place, depending on whether the team they lose against also loses one match.]
- In duel, DaHanG wins one match 3:0, wins one match 2:1, and loses two matches 1:2. This earns them 11 points. [~4th place]
- In TDM, they also win one match 3:0, win one match 2:1, and lose two matches 1:2. Again, 11 points. [~4th place]

DaHang's team has 37 points total.


This actually sounds reasonably realistic. It could get really close.

Looking at syncerror's implementation of the Swiss system, it seems like the seedings will play a huge role.

Consider a plausible scenario for the matches of the 1st seed and the 5th seed as shown in the sample results that I linked:

The 1st seed plays against:

Seed #9 (win)
Seed #4 (win)
Seed #3 (win)
Seed #2 (final round, let's assume a loss)

The 5th seed plays against:

Seed #13 (win)
Seed #7 (loss)
Seed #9 (win)
Seed #10 (win)

In this scenario, both the #1 seed and the #5 seed end up winning 3 out of 4 rounds, and will hence have very similar total points.

However, the #1 seed had much harder matches. The #5 seed never even had to play against a team among the top 6, while the #1 seed had to play 3 matches against them.

So.. yeah. Assuming 16 teams, you can realistically get a pretty significant advantage being seeded fifth rather than first.

EDIT: I suppose this is an argument against having so highly specific seedings. Instead, it could make sense to consider the top 8 teams high seeds, the bottom 8 teams low seeds, and then randomly assign within these groups the seeds #1 to #8, and #9 to #16, respectively.

you terribly underate cooller... He's ALWAYS an insanely difficult match-up for anyone, it doesn't mean he's the best but "top 8; top 4 with luck" is underating him.
If he trains and is in the right mindset, I'd say top4, winner if he's on fire (he proved it at 125fps and he's better on LAN because of his mental strength)

With overseas attendants in mind, it would be really nice of id/sinkerrur to announce the map pool as soon as possible.

As you say (in a trolling manner), the quakecon map pools indeed have always been heavily based on the maps played in the US servers, so it's quite a handicap for other regions that don't play the same ones. That holds especially true if they don't have enough time to practice the maps a bit, so announcing the map pool early is of the essence for them.

And since I'm on it, I wouldn't call it an 'excuse' really. Even in the case id were to announce it today, still the euros won't have nowhere nearly as much as the experience as the 'muricans in the 'murican maps do, as for one it'd be years against months of practice time and for second the euros won't have practice partners since no other clan plays those maps in europe.

Really cool to watch 102 learning CTF, especially with 102's teamspeak. According to qlranks, NA teams have played around 200-300 matches prior to quakecon 2014, which isn't that much and totally doable for 102. Good Luck!

first off - they new exactly well, that creating a team-only event they'll slap in the face any Russian team with at least doubled trip fees, knowing that Russian scene could barely send 1-2 players in it's best days, and they also knew for sure, that previous qcons had next to no euro/ru players due to this exact difficulty.

Idk, if they planned for Evil's preliminary elimination due to the fact that Serzh is the only player under infiplay's banner. Probably not - that would've been way too paranoid. But qcon's eagerness to create at least a few difficulties here and there for overseas attendants has become a bad stinking habit.

No, I don't think this is correct. Someone from support emailed me thanking me for bringing this to their attention.

It may have been a typo on the company's behalf, or perhaps Cooller's (the fund was setup by Antov Singov). However, I selected $100, with perk level 3, which is default for $100 donations.

Either way, it's been taken care of now, just be sure to check how much you were charged. I do not think Cooller or anyone from Team 102 would do this intentionally, it may have just been an accident.
