Well i dont wanna mention LoL game about this. But ive readed smewhere that Riot sponsored fnatic with fly tickets and hotels id should do the same for good teams. But ofc id might have economycal issues
It wouldn't have mattered anymore. If they announced it 3 months in advanced when costs were still reasonable to travel there w/o sponsors or some sort of 50/50 deal ye. Now it's just stupid to go there for 6k euro in a single elim tournament where you need to come first to get your initial investment back.
So I'll keep my rage for next fail regarding Quake Live! :]
lets hope at least a few european teams manage to go there, otherwise this would be meaningless. Though i kinda doubt we will see more than 2-3 teams make the trip
Invintational? So someone wants to play in the biggest Quake LAN, and you will say suck my cock motherfucker and get the fuck out its only for 17 elite pros?
Tony I'll see what I can do on my front. we will try and get u there qcon won't be nearly as fun if not! you can stay with me for free in Texas if you'd like.
<@kekkie> but like iC, is all aim what you need?
<fnatic\strenx> IC sucks dude
<fnatic\strenx> they didnt even beat us in purgatory
<fnatic\strenx> with our
<fnatic\strenx> less powerful
<fnatic\strenx> lineup
<fnatic\strenx> whining and stuff liek stermy didnt knwo the map
<fnatic\strenx> this is why
<fnatic\strenx> im fucking saying
<fnatic\strenx> that we will make top 2 mini
Honest question, why you waste money on dead games that no one plays, like ETQW and now BRINK? W:ET right has bigger community than both of these games.
Seriously why bother?
Better spend that money in QL development or something.
And please promote QL event, and add stream on QL main page from event, don't fuck this shit up.
Also, RTCW is gonna be 10 years old in a bit... Could have made a tournament for that just to celebrate the occasion. Obviously, no real teams would show up, just mixes, but it still would be 10 times better than brink.
Yes I know about the "tradition", I watch Quakecon every year, and I also understand that id/Zenimax won't let pass such a great opportunity to advertise / promote a recently released, but already struggling to survive title.
I'm just sad because I like ctf, and imho it's deserves a few games at the celebration of the quake series, since it's developed a deep and worthy meta-game basis in the last 10+ years.:(
How does that QL feels like Q3 baseq3 1999 compared to OSP, a mod released ages ago?
When is QL going to be worth paying premium for?
Do you realize that not allowing LAN support has totally killed the opportunity of small local LAN tournaments happening, ie the best a game has to offer: Gathering with real people playing small nice tournaments. Now the only way to play QL is being an antisocial playing in your house. Owners of locals would support QL and add it to their games because it's free, but you guys killed the possibility having this by ignoring the community demands.
i like how everybody gets all excited about quakecon because its coverage has been so extremely good for the last 10 years that we probably see one or two entire maps before the stream goes down every day :>
maka do you play anything now? wow I remember playing a quick q2 duel with you when you were a tech on sega's heat.net! Just warmup for some dudes named azukre&ck8652. I know too long ago to remember :)
:( im sad. CTf was so fun to watch. TDM is boring after 5 min. Seeing player fraggin others is not entertaining imo. + A lot of ctf match from previous quakecon were exciting. In tdm the skill gap is so big between teams there wont be any real close game.
TDM is far from boring and there are uberclose games all the time, and I remember last year that all the DUEL fans were whining on IRC about the "boring" CTF games (they were pretty far from boring tbh). So it's just a matter of preference.
On the other hand, I agree about CTF is fun to watch, and even if they don't do a tourney, they could just do some random scrims for entertainment purposes only.
wondering, are they gonna officially announce they pull the plug during the event or will I have to wait another year or two until people get REALLY fed up with paying 50bucks upfront for nothing ?
I feel someone from ID team, want to kill QL. I am sure it's sabotage. Don't know who wants that and why, but I am sure I am talking truth.
They are not doing what players ask, what to develop, what to add / edit in game.
They don't advertising it , as they could.
They fucking up with tourneys so often: qcon anouncment so late, often server problems then some tourney are going and so on.
I am sure Sync`s hands are bonded.
Due to the fact that this is only the teaser announcement. The full announcement will be made next week and will include more details. Doing a teaser before the weekend allowed us to get the basic information out to the competitors who had so direly/patiently been awaiting information.
Can you tell us who is responsible for Quakecon organization? For example, timing of the announcements, who decides that it will be announced 3/4 weeks before the event and not 3/4 months, for example?
There are no contacts whatsoever at QCon website, we never hear of any names or anything, but certainly QCon isn't running itself, someone must be managing it?
QuakeLive is a free to play game that is so poorly promoted I could do a better job on a year's worth of their PR by glueing a giant Quake sign to my ass and streaking through my local town centre
yea I can keep going. DigA, nex (was this actually a real clan? pi also maybe), hkc, eyeballers-us (not sure if that was a real thing either)?
I'm forgetting another fairly big one. oh, nova.
why couldnt this have happened 10 years ago?? it's like stephen king's IT and shit. "remember that golden time when snicker bars were huge, and quake was fun?"
So disappointing. All those teams at DH which swayed their decision will not attend so you'll get UFX and then 1-3 euro teams and then the rest will just be cannon fodder.
Would have preferred CTF where you would still only get 1-2 teams but they would go up against 5-8 good US teams too
Like last year's quakecon? There was only 3 good us teams, EG, quad gaming and loaded, one good euro team in fnatic and the rest were teams thrown together.
lol which world do u live in? ctf has never had more than 3 or 4 teams that genuinely had a chance at winning. and thats including the euros. i love how skewed everyones vision of qcons team tournament is.
YOU find it more entertaining to watch. dont generalize. personally im bored of watching ctf. especially the way its played in ql in america (same for qcon). its boringly defensive. and the ctf maps are terrible. ironworks is the only good map in ctf right now. everything else is shit.
yeah,we talked about it,id want that somebody else sponsor a prize for that tournament,so,no tony ffa special :(
i would like to go quakecon, its the dream of every true quaker, but its too much expensive
ctf is very much alive in the US, idk how you euros are, but over here we have 1-2 ctf pug servers going every night for hours on end, and we will have maybe 1 tdm pug every week
nobody scrims or organizes into teams because nobody hosts tournaments anymore so its pointless
tdm is dead in NA. It never was alive. I hope the 8 US players have fun getting stomped by euros on our own turf.
And the fact that brink was announced is just laughable.
In fact the last real tdm pug took over an hour to get started then ended 4 minutes in with clock going afk cause his team couldnt carry him
you dont live here, we have repelled tdm like the plague ever since id started releasing premium tdm maps.
We can argue tdm vs ctf all day, both require skill, but the fact is america does not like tdm.Part of the reason ufx got destroyed at DH was they had nobody to practice with over here. We have 2 teams, ufx and Nx. About 10 or 12 players total. In ctf we have enough active players for 2 pickup servers running at the same time.
A lot of players got better this year at ctf and teams emerged that have the talent to take a team like EG down. Everyone watched as EG nearly lost to a euro team whose lowest ping was 90. The argument that 'we can all go watch EG win their 5th in a row' is just silly. There are enough players in the pool to make 5-6 teams with most of them having the skill level enough to beat EG. Especially with kgb's LAN lg. :)
im sorry what are these mysterious teams that are capable of taking down eg again? afaik theres ONE team. which btw was formed 2 months ago, which had one major player drop out to be replaced by someone else.
and lets not start with numbers here. u say tdm only has 15 active players. true. but then again ctf only has about 30 active players in america. ctf has been at qcon for the last what 3 years? and yet the north american community has never formed more than 3 or 4 active clans at any given time. even those dont stick together. 2 months before qcon everyone just randomizes and joins some pickup team. so you could easily make the argument that ctf has had its chance, if inspite of qcon having it nobody forms teams, then fuck it. we might as well have a change and try something else instead. cos it sure as hell doesnt matter one whit to the "community".
so please. lets stop with the, omg qcon having tdm killed the north american ctf community. there was no community to begin with. and stop blaming the lack of tournaments. nothings stopping you from running your own.
wonko are you talking about the ctf or tdm community in your post?
At least ctf gets played, neither mod has many organized teams, i mentioned the reasons for that in my original post (nobody has tournies anymore). But ctf has more active players, and its gets played nightly. Even clock himself hasnt played any tdm since dreamhack.
About 5 months ago when there were regular CTF tournies there was EG, dfm, #beam, 8X, xUx, filp, dark, and c9. When have we ever had more than 3 tdm teams? The most i've seen was c9 (ufx), Nx, and wYz.
Are you suggesting that the NA community has had its shot at beating EG and we cant do it so we should switch to TDM, where any euro team could come over and walk all over the NA team because there are no teams or players with enough interest in TDM to even field a team let alone practice against one.
I dont understand the argument you are making in your post, its like youre saying 'ya ctf has more players, but they only organize into teams for the sole tourney every year so tdm, and their two NA teams, should get a shot'
im not arguing about whether its better to have tdm or ctf at qcon. im just saying that claiming qcon announcing tdm is somehow going to kill the ctf community is a fallacy. there is no ctf community. about the teams u posted, other than 8x and beam none of the others were very stable or active. most of them had like a roster of 10 players most of whom wouldnt show up more than once a month anyway. and other than dfm none of them had a decent chance of getting to taking down the then EG. and i dont think c9 was even around 5 months ago?
also jebus learn to read? what i said was that i COULD argue that the ctf community itself has had its shot. if qcon was that important then i could argue that the fact that community hasnt really developed inspite of ctf being at qcon consistently - as in formed clans and run tournies on their own, is an indication that ctf is dead. so we might as well try something different. (ps: quite a lot of the top ctf players were also quite good at tdm. the only reason they didnt play tdm was cos they assumed qcon would have ctf. so the argument that theres a pool or approx 50 players who could all form decent teams applies to tdm just as much as ctf).
either way i dont think it matters that much. its just one tournament. its neither going to kill nor rejuvenate any communities. its all just in ur mind. coming from the cpm community which had practically no lans, i just find it hilarious that a bunch of players who only seem to play so they can go to qcon suddenly talk about "community". (and no this is not about you personally). if people only play for qcon rather than cos they like the game, we are fucked anyway.
pps: hmm seems to me like my posts were replies to two separate posts, so i guess i understand why you were confused now. just to clarify ur base argument that ctf wouldve had more teams is i think valid, altho in terms of competitive teams (as in teams that wouldve had a chance to place top 3), it would i think be the same for tdm as it was for ctf - pretty much 3 or 4 teams. i think its incredibly stupid that they announced it so late eliminating many good euro teams from coming over. but o well its qcon what else can u expect? its going to be interesting what players like kgb do now tho. i think quite a few of the ctf players will form tdm teams. if u think about it, yes colwn might come over and clean it up but that still leaves a chance for a decent team to take a top 3 spot.
\end rant.
and to answer your question, i wouldve been at qcon this year regardless of whether it was ctf or tdm. but i somehow ended up with a chance this summer to go home to india for a month, something i hadnt thought would be possible. and family > qcon.
Why are people surprised to see BRINK at qcon?
Did everyone forget that Bethesda and id are combined into one, captain planet style.
I hope there is still an open duel tournament, its nice to see upcoming talent get some LAN play. Also, still way too late to be announcing the tourneys, how the hell are any euro teams supposed to plan with such short notice?!
There is no way we will see more than 2 euro teams I dont think. Reason probly won't go as zyv and fazz don't have the money to spend.
I have a wedding to go to around that time aswell and my girlfriend is off work on the same dates so I'd rather be at home with her.
Everything has just been left so late from id and we don't even know if the prize pool would even cover our costs if we make top 3 so we couldn't even book now if we were going.
And even if we were gonna try find a sponsor its far to late for them to give us 6k dollas.
Its a shame but I hope more euros can make the trip over.
sad to hear but very understandable. its a shame indeed
imagine if quakecon had announced a tdm tournament the same time dreamhack did. that would have made a great impact but like this, its really just a matter of who is lucky enough to have the time and money to afford to go
I'm really intrigued to why they decided to choose TDM knowing it's way too late for any European team to attend and the fact that TDM is non existent in America.
If Ice Climbers attend, it'll be the most LOL tournament in the history of Quakecon.
May as well send them the prize money now to fund the flights and hotel costs :D
There will be some teams, especially if the euro duelers going there decide to make two or three teams and beside of that some sort of ice climbers lineup plus the Russians if it is true that they are going.
So you will end up with four to five euro teams and if some American teams form, two to three there.
Still you will be missing a lot of prestige due to the key players that make up the European tdm scene, not being there.
So that's all in all not really bad. However still not worth it for a Single Elimination tournament, but the duel players have some more advantage with the tdm decision in comparison to ctf. Good for them :]
yeah, this will probably be a random mix of duelers forming teams at quakecon, along with iC and ufx. unless the russians decides to go but i kind of doubt that
Good. Another pussy move by id. If your game is dying you need to make a tough decision or two, not fuck about doing nothing of importance.
It's simple id: tourney is in NA. Announcement coming very late, might not be possible to get enough players. The only team mode anyone plays in NA is Clan Arena. So you know what you do? You host a CA tourney*. It's really that simple. You'd get lots of teams, you'd get NA viewers, and guess what, you'd get to disregard the community's wishes like you always do.
*Disclaimer: CA is fun to play. I have never watched a CA tourney. I have never played CA competitively. I don't know how shitty it is or is not as a competitive team mode. But, I guarantee you its better than a TDM tourney with 5 pug teams.
As a (sigh) mostly CA player, I can't even stand watching CA tourneys. Meet in a room, last man standing wins. They might as well make a 1-room map for CA so no one has to bother running to the same room to shoot for 10 seconds a round.
Kevin "Strenx" Baeza
It seems that fnatic doesn't send me to Quakecon, so Quake is over for me since there is no events anymore, sorry guys.
fucking communist at beshit studios and id. seriously showing u dont know jack shit bout the scene. who the fuck plays tdm?
i like tdm but noone plays it. u announce the shit like 2 days before quakecon. what euros gonna show up? oh not many. what do americans play the most? oh CA and CTF. even ffa would have been a better option then tdm u cum guzzlin seaman demons.
id can suck a fat one. i hope an asstroid hits that place.
you could have just said "i wish they picked ctf because it is more active". stop being such dramatic dicks, it's getting tired. tdm is going to be plenty wonderful.
In addition to the keynote and other special events (more on that soon), this year’s event will give you a chance to see some great presentations on our upcoming titles, including Todd Howard’s first public presentation of Skyrim!!
