wolfenstein: the old blood unlock fps? (6 comments)
Posted by pierow @ 00:32 CDT, 24 June 2015 - iMsg
So John Carmack is a traitor and cursed this shitty engine with a 60 fps cap. Has anyone been able to figure out how to get it running without speeding up the game? I think in the new order I was able to and in rage I definitely was able to. +toggle com_synctotime unlocks it and speeds it up, and I heard r_syncatendframe should fix, but it doesnt work if I turn it on from the command line and the game won't let me toggle it in console.

Bypassing CRT refresh rate cap? (8 comments)
Posted by pierow @ 19:46 CST, 12 February 2015 - iMsg
Does anyone know of any way or have any experience with bypassing the limiters some CRTs have for refresh rate? I have a lacie electron blue 22 iv that is specced to have a 140khz horizontal scan rate, but the best refresh rate it allows is 160hz at 768 vertical lines and below (134.5khz). To my knowledge, given the specs it could do 200+hz at 800x600. If I try to set it higher than 160hz the CRT gives me an out of range message.

I imagine getting around this would require flashing the firmware, which is probably outside of my abilities. I have seen tools for writing to the EDID though and was wondering if anyone knew if changing that would affect the limiter. I'm also left wondering if there is a reason why low resolutions were limited on this monitor when other diamondtrons like the iiyamas allowed 200+hz.

Non-stick aluminum foil mouse pad (4 comments)
Posted by pierow @ 17:39 CDT, 11 October 2014 - iMsg
I had some heavy duty non stick renold's wrap for grilling that is a very large sheet so I decided to give it a shot. I just tested this out for a minute and it works pretty well and is the lowest friction surface I've used. My mouse had a little bit of trouble tracking on the kinks, but it barely tracks on plastic the lod is so low.

It seems like it might be more work than it's worth, but I figured someone here might want to try it out or at least use it in a pinch if they have no pad.

cg_drawcrosshairnames HUD position (7 comments)

Is there any way to change the position of player names when you have your crosshair on them? I know there's an opacity option but it's still really distracting if I have it on.

Goliathus speed non-fragged avilable? (9 comments)
Posted by pierow @ 11:12 CDT, 2 July 2013 - iMsg
Has anyone been able to find the non-fragged version of the goliathus pads anymore? These are the kind that almost all black except for a couple of logos in the corner instead of the big razer logo for 13 year olds.

The one I got when they came out is pretty worn out, but I don't want to get this gaudy crap that also probably has more tracking problems because of the extra color.

lcd scanning baclight lowers motion blur (2 comments)
Posted by pierow @ 15:53 CST, 29 December 2012 - iMsg
I came across this registry edit that forces lightboost to be on if you have an nvidia card so your monitor's backlight flickers at 120hz so you only see the screen when the pixels are in their most updated state. According to the people who have tried it it lowers motion blur and makes LCDs a lot like CRTs.

The bottom of the post has the updated method that is just a registry edit

I don't have a 120hz lcd to test this on. A friend has an nvidia card in the mail to try it on his xl2420t. Has anyone tried it?
