So where's the public outcry? (18 comments)
Posted by function9 @ 22:04 CDT, 15 August 2015 - iMsg

Haven't heard a single thing about this on any news channels, haven't heard of any riots or protests, etc. Where are all these, "all life matters" nit-wits that couldn't wait to get in front of a camera or go on record in response to all these previous shootings. Oh yeah, the kid was white. I guess it's only a noble cause if it's a minority, my bad.

Any issues with SSD+HDD in same system? (13 comments)
Posted by function9 @ 20:14 CDT, 9 March 2014 - iMsg
Going to be upgrading my computer next week. One thing I'm not sure on is boot/storage drives. I've read mixed things across many sites in regards to using SSD and HDD at the same time. Apparently anytime the HDD spins up it freezes the system for several seconds. And in some extreme cases can hang the system when Windows starts for a couple minutes.

I haven't used SSD before so I wanted to know who's running SSD and HDD drives in their system and have you had any problems with it?

Movie/Youtube help (13 comments)

I've started trying to make video clips for a game I play. Problem is I'm losing a lot of quality when the video is uploaded to youtube. And checking out similar videos I don't see the quality as bad as this.

These are a couple screenshots I took of it on youtube and playing it in MPC-HC. I understand there's going to be some loss in quality, but this seems a bit drastic. So far the process I'm using is this:

Capture game footage with FRAPS at 1280x720@60fps
Edit clips in avidemux (
Render in avidemux using mpeg4 (x264)
Upload to youtube results in this:

Using MPC-HC, the "media info" shows me this:

Do some codecs fare a bit better when being uploaded to youtube than others? I'd hate to think I have to go to 1920x1080 for decent quality for youtube. Any help would be appreciated, thank you! I apologize in advance if I'm overlooking or making any obvious mistakes as I'm quite new to video editing.

Zimmerman nonsense (233 comments)
Posted by function9 @ 14:47 CDT, 15 July 2013 - iMsg
I getting really fucking tired of hearing about this everywhere I go. People are trying to make it sound like he just walked up to the kid unprovoked and shot him. I guess this is the "cause" for the month. Oh, and Zimmerman is Hispanic, but I guess all us non-blacks look the same to you eh?

Edit: Ok, I see how this can be confusing some. Let me say I don't necessarily mind this being talked about. What I am tired of seeing though is douche bags crying about how some poor, innocent, and defenseless little black boy got shot in cold blood by some big, evil, racist white guy. From TV, to papers, to the internet, it's like suddenly facts don't matter with this case.

Been using this for a couple days now and when set to 400dpi, mouse movements feel lagged. Almost like when V-sync is enabled (it's not). Anyone else notice this or is 800dpi the setting to use for this mouse? This is in WinXP, quake live using in_mouse 2, no Logitech software installed, and on a qck+.

Comments not showing up, comments/page (35 comments)

I've noticed every so often when I try to view a thread, none of the comments will show up. Sometimes if I refresh the page comments will load. Other times, I can try revisiting a thread over several days and comments will just not load. Currently this is happening with the "ID UPDATE" thread:

Also, is there any way to get comments per page to actually stick in preferences?

Update on the 15th yo! (210 comments)
Posted by function9 @ 00:48 CST, 12 March 2011 - iMsg

Incoming Update, Tue. Mar 15th

We currently plan on performing a site update Tuesday, March 15th. We may experience some lengthy downtime while performing the update as we deploy some new infrastructure.

We will make a full changelog available early next week, but until then, here is a broad overview of what will be included in this premium update:

Premium Maps Added:

* Toxicity (Duel):

Created by Alexander Mader, Toxicity is an enclosed Duel map with a distinctive look. Twisting halls and teleporters provide ample escape, as long as you watch out for the namesake pools of toxic acid in the main rooms of this arena. Own the world, or at least your opponent, and spread disorder by knocking them around with some rockets. Bounce them well, and you can treat yourself to a Red Armor, while they suffer some unfortunate burns.

* Distant Screams (Large CTF):

Formerly known as the perennial favorite Silent Night, we've torn down the Christmas decorations as to not look like that weird house down the street lit up well into March. Thankfully, it hasn't warmed up enough to melt the ice that covers vast swathes of the level, allowing massive acceleration throughout the frozen tundra terrain. Everything else is still mostly as you remember it, from the grenade traps to the secret button that dispenses health. Wait, that's supposed to be a secret...

Game Changes:

* Kill Beep for Premium players:
Enabling cg_killBeep will play a distinct sound when you score a kill in any mode.
* Increased size of hit cylinders:
Increased hittable region of players by 10% to more closely mimic the area of the old cuboid region.
* Improved arena download system:
Download size for Standard players reduced by about 50% by not downloading premium content until the player joins a server running the arena. This also means these maps will be unavailable in Practice mode for Standard users. Premium and Pro users will still download all content as they did before.
* Increased damage of Shotgun in Team Deathmatch:
Increased damage of Shotgun back to 100 to match the Shotgun in other modes after determining that the spread and damage change made in other gametypes was a sufficient adjustment.

Web Changes:

* Facebook Screenshot uploading:
Visit Social Settings under the Settings menu to link your Facebook account with QUAKE LIVE. After binding a key from Social Settings, or manually binding a key to /socialScreenshot, you will be able to take an upload a screenshot directly to Facebook.
* Added tier display to player profiles:
All players can now view what tiers they are in by clicking the Statistics tab on their profile.
* Added Change Country Flag to Account Settings:
All players can change what country appears on their profile and in the in-game Premium scoreboards.
"lengthy downtime", sounds riveting.
