good game its on sale i bought it for 24 roubles (less than a dollar)

i noticed the graphics when adjusted remind me of ut3, the textures are very similar, there are bots also so you can addbots and play by yourself, i also read its compatible with original pk maps. couldnt afford the black edition, not really sure if its any better than overdose, same engine and pretty much same features. its very similar to ut3

i wonder if rage engine would be capable to deliver good multiplayer, not going all hardcore, but doom to me is the last hope to see anything new in games that really make me feel something new.

r_picmip >2 restriction (62 comments)
Posted by 05/08/1945 @ 07:13 CDT, 29 August 2013 - iMsg
man up people, remove r_picmip >2 from the game, it makes the game ugly for almost every average gamer. its everywhere, on the quake live streams.

-its not limited by hardware anymore, there is almost no pc that cant handle r_picmip 0-2 at this point

-high picmip has no fps gain at all, aside from better visibility

-its very cheat-like, completely uncompetitive attitude towards people who dont like to play with high picmip

-very bad for spectators watching a quake live stream and getting bad first impression

-makes the game look much older than it is

-very bad for overall presenetation of the game

i know its kinda late.... but i just got it... rage graphics are amazing... never really payed that much attention to it perhaps because of lowres video quality.. that game above all looks amazingly beatiful... graphics by far is rage's biggest selling point. never really thought about it that way but id are still the king at graphics no doubt about it.

if rage fails (114 comments)

to me it looks like a really great game, but seeing lowish youtube viewcounts is not comforting, or maybe its too early too tell. but anyways... is this a sign that art driven games like rage are loosing to "realistic" shooters. or i have too high expectations for it to be popular like in the old days of dooms and quakes?

Quake Live DLC (21 comments)
Posted by 05/08/1945 @ 06:54 CDT, 10 July 2010 - iMsg
i like quake very much, seeing those small numbers of players is really disappointing considering the quality of the game. what's even more frustrating is seeing developers doing nothing productive to increase those numbers. what we see is a bunch of gimmick updates and tweaks with no real improvement in terms of new content and gamemodes. first off lets look at bf:heroes, tons of dlc is being pumped to the audience. dlc is not just so that ea can rip people off, dlc is there so that people who are dedicated to the game would be able to pay for more content of their favourite game thus prolonging their interest in the game. i am not playing quake for competition, i am playing quake for the game itself, once the game becomes stale and nothing ever changes i get very bored and i believe that there are many people like me, besides being competitive at quake is very tough. so why doesn't id dedicate a couple of artists to the game who would be able to constantly pump out dlc and coders who are willing enough to create gamemodes like ra3 and 1v1 ca, afterall quake live was created for the mainstream, we don't want another q3 scenario with 20 people playing the game.

Posted by 05/08/1945 @ 20:46 CDT, 1 July 2009 - iMsg
The first screenshot for the Xbox Live Arcade version of Quake III: Arena has been released.

The image shows several new levels to be included in the Pi Studios port, with Arena Gate being the only holdover from the original Quake III.

Up to 16 players will be supported across 40 multiplayer maps. Modes include Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Tournament, Harvester and Overload.

No launch date for the title has been announced, but Pi notes that a new build has been sent to Microsoft recently.

id Software Acquired by ZeniMax Media (258 comments)
Posted by 05/08/1945 @ 11:06 CDT, 24 June 2009 - iMsg
ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks (Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3), has completed its acquisition of id id Software (Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein).

"id Software will continue to operate as a studio under the direction of its founder, John Carmack," vowed ZeniMax. "No changes will be made in the operations of id Software in the development of its games. All the principals at id Software have signed long-term employment contracts, assuring they will continue in their roles...at the studio."

Founded as an independent game developer in 1991, id Software is currently working on the post-apocalyptic shooter RAGE (PC, PS3, 360) and the long-awaited Doom 4.

Seriously guys, go, see, and play!

I personally use vanilla ezquake and i think its really one of the best and my favorite mutiplayer game to spectate, its only very sad that not a lot of people play this games as its really awesome and makes me think why it wasnt rereleased.

DooM 4 Multiplayer > Quake Arena 2 (21 comments)

id Software is a pretty small company and I think it was the best decision to incorporate a good multiplayer component into a great singleplayer game rather than risk time and effort into a standalone multiplayer focused deathmatch title like UT3.
