Vo0 going to ESWC Grand Finals (211 comments)
Posted by Ins0mnia @ 01:34 CDT, 13 June 2008 - iMsg
Last weekend the Dutch ESWC qualifier in Quake 3 Arena has been played. With an exciting finale from Sander "Vo0" Kaasjager versus Lemmy "If-22" de Groot, in which IF-22 came out as the superior player.

How ever, the ESWC was so thrilled about the final, they decided that Vo0 should also be given a chance to ESWC USA. So there for they given the second spot also a ticket for the grand finales. Even thought Vo0 has to pay up his own trip.

Ofcourse not everybody is happy with this, because Ivo 'Forever' Lindhout states on GameLux that this is just not a fair way to distribute prizes. (The news hub of WSquared). How ever Forever did not attent the event. Because he didn't know there was a second prize.

Here is a part translated, quoted and cutted from what he had to say:

As since we of ESreality do care about our users and their public opinion. We have also made a poll about it. You can just vote here.

Command & Conquer goes freeware (85 comments)

Twelve years ago on 31 August 1995 the RTS game Command & Conquer was released in the shops. This was for EA Games a reason to make their firs title of the series a freeware game. Which means, they published the ISO's of the game for anyone to download.

The version you download is the exact same version as you could get on the Command and Conquer : The First Decade package, which means it's Windows XP compatible. So you can enjoy all the fun and glory from 1995.

Nvidia needs to listen (43 comments)
Posted by Ins0mnia @ 07:05 CDT, 21 March 2007 - iMsg
Since a few days I’m a proud owner of an EVGA Geforce 8800 GTX. All went well for a while till suddenly all shit happened.

Started out with a BSoD in World of WarCraft, ever since all shit hits the fan. Everytime I boot up windows, it starts to hang after 5 minutes and I get nifty pink/purple dots and stripes everywhere. Even when I’m just idle the shit happens.

So been searching on the EVGA forums, Nvidia forums, tweakers.net, WoW forums and it seems a lot of people have the same problem. Not a little bit but shitloads of people.

People try all things, from driver changes to Beta to even RMA their cards. -_-‘

I myself tried everything yet, checked my temp, checked if I had enough Watts (got 530), checked if I should change the drivers, checked my DX, checked if it still happens when I have other expansion cards installed, checked my mobo bios, checked my mobo drivers, checked if my other video cards have the same problem, checked if it was my memory. Anyway, kind of checked everything but couldn’t find a solution

How ever, when I de-install the drivers and boot up windows. It won’t crash at all, how ever I’m not able to play games then. The same counts for Windows safe mode.

Anyway, I URGE nvidia to fix these drivers, because latterly thousands of people suffer from the same. Especially since people pay a phat bill of 500 euros for their GTX.

Ill try 1 RMA, if that doesn’t work. Ill ask for a refund and wait for ATi R600 to come out.

Rant over.

Competitive console gaming? (153 comments)
Posted by Ins0mnia @ 17:47 CDT, 17 September 2006 - iMsg
Many of you here won't take this seriously, console gaming. How ever we are on the edge that these babies will take over the current competitive games some day. The reasons are so simple, they have the support of the mass. The casual console world is so extremely huge, that it is just a laugh to see our tiny little competitive world.

But it is also so easy, within 30 seconds on a NDS, Xbox or PS3 your already playing online and grab some virtual points for your char and it's saved on a database on some website by Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft. Not to mention that it is basically cheat proof, something that the PC gamers still suffer from and probably won't be solved that easy in the future. These are huge plusses for the console gamers.

Well, i'm not completely right with being cheat proof. There are some serious 'bug' abusers who can disrupt the game easy. For example the 'snake move' in Mario Kart DS. "Snaking" is using the slide boost for corners but then on straight roads. So you would always get the boost and race away your enemies.

Even though we see some competitive tournaments with consoles, it's far from what the tournament organisations want. Mean reason is lack of support from the developer teams and it's very hard to reach the casual gamer in the first place. But there are more problems, the current PC owners find it very hard to play on a stick. They are so adapted to the mouse and keyboard, that they will never be able to switch over that easy and won't take it serious and rather laugh at the people that play on a different console. Especially since no 'hero' has stepped over yet. But I believe this scene can create their own super heroes once these people get the support from the big tournament organisations a bit better.

Another problem is that it is currently still impossible to view matches or watch demos. But Microsoft has claimed some rights to watch replays or live matches on your Xbox 360 in different views in a game you don't own. This piece of technology could boost the competitive scene on this particular machine and which is very interesting to see how it works.

As I've mentioned before, it is really hard to reach the casual scene. A lot of dev teams have problems with their own little people. Blizzard Entertainment did find a solution for this with Battle.net, Battle.net can be described as a huge IRC network for different games where people can find a game against each other, see the latest updates, get the latest updates and many more great features. Microsoft started to do this aswell with their Xbox 360, you can find any info you want and it's good! How ever, MS and Blizzard isn't easy to reach as a tournament organisation. So new comers might have big trouble with reaching the people without the help of MS or BLZ.

Another downside from Console gaming via Internet is that the most populair online service on consoles is the Xbox live, Microsoft charges around 60 Euros to play on their beloved network. But the people from Nintendo and Sony laugh about it since their systems (PSP, PS2, PS3, NDS, WII) aren't asking for a small fee. That is litterly "plug in your system and your online", like our PC fellows do for ages.

Anyway, what I want to say with this whole story is that our traditional games in the eSports scene are in danger. Not directly yet, but over time they might be replaces by games that appeal the new generation gamers better.

Ownage ETV Number 15 is out, a few days ago you could enjoy the 14th episode. Today you can watch the 15th episode. This one is dedicated to the WCG NL qualifiers.

Nederob's words
"Just like we were at the ClanBase EuroCup XI Lanfinal, we were also very busy at the World Cyber Games 2005 Dutch championships in WTC Alnovum in Almere, the Netherlands. Once again this movie gives you an impression of the tournament. It's more a movie which shows you the atmosphere instead of in-game footage. Even though I must admit there's some Halo 2 footage in the movie.

Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy this movie once again. Meet our Dutch team which will defend their WCG title! Holland FTW!!"

Fatality Shootout Holland (8 comments)
Posted by Ins0mnia @ 19:07 CDT, 28 August 2004 - iMsg
United States of America fatal1ty is in Holland again! (Yay, as if we care you would reply). Anyhow the event was a minor succes, only 30/40 people challenged him at the event and only 1 was able to score 1 frag against him. Who this uber-owner is well, he is basicly an unknown gamer called Netherlands pretorian, so from the e-sports pro scene "well played dude!" (he had the public with him though, they all clapted for him!) The big names that challenged fatal1ty was Netherlands Fnatic`Sizah, Netherlands Edit-GoodBye, Netherlands Fnatic`Memetic, Netherlands 32nd-core|forever and ofcourse the most important E-Sport gamer of all time and universe me.. Netherlands [GpW]Ins0mnia..

I went with my close buddy Netherlands [GpW]Kman to the event in order to just meet him and see how well we are... but funny though we knew we would get owned big time and we knew that he is just one match to high for us. But lets travel 2 hours by train and bus to face him for a 4 min duel on a max frag rate of 6 points. Ole!

A well, after losing 0-6 from him I got this "great" mob flash sticker from a-bit that flashes up when you get called ^^. But still, it's sure a great experiance for me to face one of the best all around FPS gamer on the world.

Anyhow here is a small gallary from the event....

An interview with WarWitch from TsN (No comments)
Posted by Ins0mnia @ 10:43 CST, 26 January 2004 - iMsg
WarWitch from Team Sportscast Network, perhaps one of the best eSport shoutcasters in the world. Mainly knows from his awesome RTCW casts and impressive change to CounterStrike during the CPL winter 2003 made him also legendary in CS. But now for a short time he also invades the beaches of Call of Duty. Here is a Interview with him. By me for you.

Ins0mnia: Hey WarWitch, Could you introduce yourself a bit to the public?

WarWitch: Some know me as Herr Warwitch, Axis Shoutcaster for the German High Command. I've been attached to the Team Sportscast Network for 4 years now. Our goal: World Domination!

Ins0mnia: Perhaps this is a FAQ for you but. How did you become one?

WarWitch: Esports commentation really began to hit the scene during the era of Tribes 1, a somewhat popular and interesting first person team based CTF game. I joined the call of broadcasting at that time for another station. Having been a DJ for years before that, it felt like a natural calling for me. I've been on the mic ever since, most of that time spent with TsN!

Ins0mnia: For a short time you've done some CS and CoD casts. How was that move to those scenes ? do you remain at RTCW aswell?

WarWitch: Return to Castle Wolfenstein was a huge title for me. The Wolf community really embraced my shoutcasts and I in turn really embraced the community. It was an awesome era for the Axis! I remain with the wolf scene though as a realist I understand that the games glory days are gone. My main goal is to become more versatile and capable of broadcasting mutliple games. My move into CounterStrike shoutcasting represents that desire to advance myself into other arenas. I was a bit worried that the CS community would eat me alive. Thankfully, they were very accepting. As far as CoD, this is definately my new home! Once again I get to play the role of the Axis Shoutcaster. We've also started our popular CoD Roundtable which is a community show that has gone over very very well!

Ins0mnia: Did you ever expected that esports and shoutcasting would be so big?

WarWitch: I always had a feeling it would reach epic standards. Things are really starting to move forward quickly now! I really see a future for esports and esports broadcasting. 2004 is going to be a big year for both!

Ins0mnia: Whats your overal favorite moment in electronic sports casting?

WarWitch: That's such a hard question to answer. There are so many exciting moments that have happened in the world of Esports broadcasting. The first BoB final was awesome: The DR's vs Darkside on mp_beach ... I mean that really embodied what RTCW was all about!

Ins0mnia: Talking about mp_beach, wich one do you like better. MP_Beach (RTCW) or MP_Carentan (COD)?

WarWitch: mp_beach hands down! CoD needs a Normandy beach invasion style map for sure!

Ins0mnia: Call of Duty had a great week this week. CODTV, PB, TheCPL all are announced and it slowly makes it into a progame. If you are at the CPL. Would you do CS and COD casts? or just stick on 1 game?

WarWitch: There is no IF about it. I will be at the CPL with TsN this year! And let me tell you ... the Axis Goat is excited. Anyhow, I plan to be very very busy shoutcasting CoD and CS ... I love both games! I hope to also be doing more work for the MFAVP, doing video interiews and commentary for the event.

Ins0mnia: What do you prefer? The Euro scene or the USA scene? and why?

WarWitch: In a way that's very much an Apples and Oranges kinda thing. I happen to enjoy both! There is really very little difference between gamers of the USA and those of Europe. We all play hard for the love of the game. I will admit however that I always get a thrill when I broadcast to a German audience! I'm sure they find it amusing, the fake accent and foolish antics of the Axis goat!

Ins0mnia: Will you be in Europe again? because we haven't seen you after intel masters..

WarWitch: Indeed. I'm not yet sure what European events TsN will be attending this year but you can count on the fact that I will be pushing to broadcast anything we do from the European theater of war!

Ins0mnia: Yes, we saw your pretty face and voice on those video's during the CPL Winter event. How did that suddenly come? Because for a lot of people this was quite huge and suprising news..

WarWitch: I have to thank TsN|Juno ... he is one of the head soldats of the Team Sportscast Network. He works behind the scenes and arranged for me to represent TsN with the MFAVP. It was a great experience for me. I hope to make a return to video this next Summer event!

Ins0mnia: If you had the chance to get a phat contract for "real" Sports casts. Would you do that over Electronical Sports casts?

WarWitch: Negative. I really think my calling is in the world of eSports. I hope to be the future John Madden of online broadcasting!

Ins0mnia: So no WarWitch on INDY 500 or so? (Pity)

WarWitch: hah, very unlikley. I might cast FIFA 2004 GOOOOOOOOAAAALLL!

Ins0mnia: Do you hope that you will be casting eSports on real stations (or that TsN became one)?

WarWitch: I agree with something Angel from the CPL said. The future of Esports is online ... not on television ... but online. TsN has some exciting things planned for the future that will take this whole thing to the next level. I consider TsN a very 'real' station!

Ins0mnia: You have told us before that you work at a stripclub as a DJ. Any plans to bring those babes to CS,COD or RTCW?

WarWitch: Nein commissar. I plan to keep ze Frauleins for myself!

Ins0mnia: Did you know there are 2 famouse p0rno-stars in the Unreal / Quake scene?

WarWitch: And I'd love to meet them both ... duh duh duh!

Ins0mnia: 1337 or L33T ?

WarWitch: Neither. I don't speak hacker *grin*

Ins0mnia: CPL or QuakeCon ?

WarWitch: Both events accomplish the same goal: They bring gaming to the next level in a very organized and exciting way!

Ins0mnia: CyberXgaming: Flop or failure?

WarWitch: Failure. Poor planning and a lack of understanding of how to run an event caused the cxg to bomb. Will this effect the future of esports gaming? I don't think so. Not in the long run. If anything, the failure of the cxg will show the world just how hard running a lan of this kind is, and will give people added respect for organizations such as the CPL who have managed to be so successful for so long.

Ins0mnia: Do you have any shout-outs to give dear WarWitch?

WarWitch: As always I'd like to thank everyone who has given their support to TsN and myself over the years. I'd also like to promote our new Call of Duty community show: The CoD Roundtable which we air every Thursday @ 7pm EST. We also re-run the show on Friday for the European audience at 20:00 CET. The shows webpage can be found at: http://roundtable.tsncentral.com -- A big thanks to you insom for your great work with RTCW and clanbase and to everyone who has made an effort to further the future of esports! Thanks for the interview ... guten nacht!

Ins0mnia: Thank you warwitch for the Interview. Hope to hear you again soon on RTCW/CS or COD.

No, it isn't a frag movie were you show-off you can shoot better then anybody else and it's also not a show-off movie how you can jump l33ter then anyone else. It's a big real-life parody on the game Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and can be classed as one of the funniest movies made in the history of RTCW/ET.

The .avi movie is 5 mins, 10 secs long (80megs in size) and requires the DIVX codec.

Wuff from the Swedish RTCW clan Sweden infensus has made and released a high quality RTCW frag movie called "infensus the movie". As you might expect this movie is a frag movie about the clan infensus

The movie has all the basic stuff what a good movie should have. Thinks like Trick Jumping, Elite Frags and great "f*ck ups". So I recommand you to download it and watch it, even when you aren't a RTCW player at all. Because it's a real whopper.

Ms.X will take on Jtm in a 1on1 drinking frenzy.....

[ Jtm vs Ms.X ]
Date: 1 November 2003
Mp: Q3Amsterdam
OSB (Orange smoothie beer)
Server: Some Cafe
Rules: The first one pukes, gives up, runs out of money, loses.

Update
MsX finally showed up 2,5 hours too late, so Jtm allready had a lead before MsX was even there. Then we figured that there wouldn't be enough time to finish the drinking competition with only beer so Jtm challenged MsX with other drinks which she refused since she only wanted to drink beer. Imho it looked like MsX tried to back off from the competition but she wouldn't wanted to give away a forfeit.

I heard that MsX was ill the next day, so think that because MsX showed up 2,5 hours late, Jtm had a lead and MsX was ill the next day that Jtm won the competition.

Both sides agreed on a draw last night but since there where under influence of alcohol I don't think we can allow that as an official score. I simply don't think we can refund the money to all these people who have been waiting for this competition for the last month, so the most fair option to me it to announce Jtm as the winner.
